Love kicking field goals when its the fourth quarter and you're down by 20+ points. But thats trademark Todd Bowles....It's simple to me at this point...I could care less about continuity when the continuity would be more of the same garbage. No accountability, piss poor game planning, piss poor player selection, horribly conservative play calling, garbage timid behavior that does not win NFL games. I am usually in favor of giving coaches 3 years to show what they are but after 2 seasons I think we can all safely come to the conclusion that Bowles is not a head coach. Get rid of him, bring Todd Hailey in from Pitt, and let's actually have someone who has been an HC before have a shot at making their second go around much better than their first.

Give them 2nd rounder. Payton is more important then whatever the next bust would be.

Reminds me of Weeb Ewbank in the early 70's we're losing 20-3 in the 3rd qtr and he's running the ball, we have to establish a running game and 63,000 people at Shea are screaming WEEB YOU IDIOT WE'RE LOSING!

Todd Haley would be a great hire. All you have to do is watch game tape from their recent win in Buffalo to see why.

Here he is having built up a top 5 passing offense led by an experienced QB and the best wide receiver in the game. And yet it becomes obvious that the running game, particularly up the middle and off tackle, is working that day. Okay, instead of getting cute like many inexperienced coaches, he just pounds the rock 40 times that day running pretty much the same running plays over and over - hey if its working why change. Steelers dominate.

A lot of talk about continuity but look around you think Tampa regrets bailing on Lovie Smith after 2 years in the name of continuity? how about Tennessee with Wisenhunt after a year and a half?

Looks like Jags may be after Coughlin.
Woody make Tom VP of Operations
Sean Peyton HC. GM also if you have to.
2 Parcells guys to right the ship.

Continuity is overstated and overrated. In the New York market, fans demand winning football, 2 years in and Todd Bowles has failed. What more do we need to see from him to legitimize bringing him back for year 3? I just can't get on board with him as an HC, he lacks everything a head coach should be.

I was on the Bowles bandwagon. I thought he had the right temperament after the Rex era.

He probably does have the right temperament...unfortunately he just is lacking in just about every other area.

The way this team has quit on themselves goes right to Todd Bowles. Even if given another year, does anyone think this coaching staff has the ability to turn things around?

I certainly don't. The Jets need to clean house.

Maybe a guy like Michael Lombardi can come in and establish an identity besides being the league's laughingstock.

Yeah. He really looks to be in way over his head.

I predict he'll finish out his career as a D coordinator somewhere else.

Even though Rappaport has already reported Woody will bring back Bowles, I happen to think that Woody will opt to fire him. The more we lose in embarassing fashion the more it becomes apparent that you should not keep someone for the sake of giving it a shot and continuity. Continuity is for people with promise, Bowles has no promise. Even the 10 wins last year were as a result of every single thing that could have gone right, go right.

ive said it before and ill say it again. its a situation that starts at the top. the best teams are the best teams year in and year out for a number of reasons. coaches, qb play and owners.

we dont have any of those at this point. i am convinced after watching the 49ers of the 80s, the steelers of the past 40 years, the giants of the past 30 years and the patsies of the past 20 years that owners matter, they set the tone for the entire organization, they lay out what their team stands for and looks like. sometimes they have a little bit of a down time when they are without a good coach or qb but the cream always seems to rise to the top. i am willing to bet that the patsies will be down when bellichick and brady leave but they will put it together within the next 5-8 years and start winning again. i am confident that the giants will go through ups and downs but always seem to be up more than they are down. i am also confident that there are organizations out there that might catch fire in a bottle every now and again but will for the most part be down.

thats because the continuity is the owner, the overall operation stems from the guy that cuts the checks, whether he is involved in the football operations or not. he sets the tone.

kraft, rooney, mara, even eddie debartolo who took them to the top and then left and they havent been the same since. al davis who sits on both ends of the spectrum, only because he lost his entire fucking mind at some point in the late 90s.

vs. the ones who cant get out of their own way.

led by leon hess and woody johnson.

rex tried to change that situation, play like a jet, doing things the jets way. but it was all bluster, that is stuff that he as the head coach cant create by simply saying it, you have to really believe in it and be it. not be running around looking like a douche with your green fucking ties.

needless to say i hate our owner at this point. i think he is the biggest of our problems and sadly we cant hope that he gets fired. and it wouldnt have been any better if that douche dolan had bought the team.

so heres to hoping he actually brings someone in to run football operations who has something to stand for, some way that can become what the team does. not copy catting, not making it up as you go. not figuring it out. decide what you want to stand for and make everything about it.

I dont know how anyone looking from the outside (like us fans) can make any declaration about what kind of head coach Bowles is inside the locker room. But we can say he is a lousy HC outside the locker room. During games, he makes poor challenges, is risk averse when the moment calls for being bold, shows no ability to make mid game or half adjustments, and isnt good managing timeouts or the clock.

In the public relations side of being a HC, he shows no emotion, no fire, and most importantly doesnt show the fanbase that he actually knows what he is doing.

Coughlin is only 5 years older than Saban even though he looks 150. If definitely consider him for a director of football job though because he'd bring instant credibility. Even if that meant him coaching for a couple of years and grooming a successor. We need a change around here.

If the Colts make a push for him/fire Pagano and Grigson, he probably goes there. If the Colts don't fire anyone, then the only way I see the Jets getting him is if they give him full personnel control. That probably means Mac is demoted and potentially fired, but if that's what it takes to get Payton, I'd do it. As you said, maybe he's a failure, with the Jets, but at least we know he's proven to be a good coach in the past. He's had enough success as a coach to clean the toxic culture surrounding the team/ not be fired if the team struggles for anther year or two as they rebuild.

He'd also be great with Watson or whatever young QB he wanted to draft(I'm assuming he'd want his own QB and not the past FO's). The Jets would also be able to replace the late round picks they lost for him by trading Sheldon and Marshall. This is the closet were getting to a Parcells hire with Woody as the owner.

I just have a feeling there's no way this happens at all. It seems too good for this to happen to the Jets.

There are also some much more promising spots for him to land.
