I'm sorry, I just can't take this thread seriously because of your username. I keep seeing a bunch of robot tigers run out of the tunnel, start glowing, fly in the air and form a giant body with a number 9 on it's chest and also an enormous head, and it's... ...BRYCETRON - DEFENDER OF THE JETS
LOL, I literally just wrote the first name that popped into my head when signing up! I sometimes do things that makes me want to kick my own ass!
So far, he reminds me a lot of Blake Bortles. Let's see if the Jets can develop better than the Jaguars.
Damn.. Is it sad I'd sign up for Bortles right now? I would LOVE if Petty or any QB we draft could be more than a game manager.. Just feels like they will have to develop in spite of the organization not because of it.
Too early to tell. I like what I've seen so far, but it's a VERY limited sampling. Four games may not even be enough, but it will show more than this 1 game has. I'm hopeful (but then again, I've been a Jets fan for 54 years, so of course I'm pitifully optimistic).
I don't think we'll ever see Petty turn into a game manager. His best case scenario seems like an Eli Manning type, where he makes you a bunch of plays but also turns the ball over way too much. That's not necessarily a bad thing. IMO, your QB needs to be a risk taker, game managers don't win Super Bowls. There's a reason Alex Smith and Andy Dalton always get knocked out of the playoffs so quickly. They'll get you to 10-6, but once you're in January they don't make enough plays to win. Guys like Eli or Flacco at least have the potential to get hot and get you a ring. My hope is that Petty turns into someone like that. The problem is, there's a difference between taking risks and getting fooled by coverages, and I've seen more of the latter from Petty so far. Still, it's very early in his career and we'll see where these next three games take him.
I'm got to go with gun slinger. If he ever gets the system down and can read a defense that's what he'll be. He worked best when he was scrambling around making plays last Sunday.
Lousy poll. All but one of the choices are bad. I don't see Petty as being a HOF like Brady, but I think he has the potential to become a better Andy Dalton and be very good, quality starter.
Pretty damned good assessment Bigcat. I have a good feeling about this guy. He makes watching the Jets at least exciting.
Petty has all the physical and mental tools you want in a QB. Big, mobile, strong arm, spins the ball well. Also smart, charismatic, and a hard worker. If he can learn to read a defense, he'll be a keeper. But it won't be easy.
I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. He looks like he has legitimate arm talent, but I think he is the kind of guy who will turn the ball over. Hopefully his offensive output outweighs that. The next few games will be telling. As of right now, he has a higher INT% than Fitz. Small sample size, so he could be lower after tomorrow, but it something worth noting. Like I said, I am hoping for the best and rooting for the kid to succeed. However, if I had to put money on it, I would bet on him not developing into the guy.
I believe he can be a dual threat, if he can read defenses and adjust himself and the plays according to what he sees coming he can be dangerous when he rolls out and makes something happen. He looks like he has a good arm and appears to be physically strong. I don't know if he is smart and catches on quickly, when it comes to the Jets and their history of leaving QB draft picks on the bench until the dust hardens on them we really don't know if he catches on quickly or not. I think he can have a good career if his coaching staff cuts him loose and doesn't have the just don't make a mistake attitude that our last four coaches have had. The attitude of keep it close and don't make a mistake has to go.
