Im hoping someone rises, thats what I'm praying for maybe even a QB that deserves to be taken that high, i wouldn't be opposed to it. I don't ever want to think that we passed on Derek Carr because we had Geno Smith on the roster. Like are u kidding me, do you job. If someone isn't worth passing up on because u think he's that talented, then draft him. It shouldn't be up to the public to determine who you draft. There was a reason Geno Smith went in the 2nd round in a weak QB class, he was that bad.

I just see this as a bad mix, this isn't a really strong offensive class overall, and the positions that we need to me QB and T are pretty weak so i kinda eliminate those off the bat. Then theres the WR position, I really like ours already and think that it think could be scary good if we get some help around them. Im still giving Devin Smith a chance to prove himself. Bill Polian a man and talent evaluator i have great respect for loved D.Smith out of college i remember Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne being pretty good. Not saying he's gonna be that but he's been hurt maybe once he gets back on the field he can show us that speed he was known for. Along with the emergence of Enunwa and hopefully Anderson Peake and Marshall can take steps forward. RB is an all time deep and I'm expecting starting caliber RBs to be there in the 3rd. So i hesitate choosing one high. I actually like Cook better than Fournette and kinda think it that'll be the overall opinion towards the draft.

Half way agree but if you are going defense then you need a cornerback really bad. Cause Revis and Skrine were torched tonight. Drafting anything else on defense would be a waste. We have no QB's and we be losing two of them this offseason. One might be promising and the other QB is a B.U.S.T. The offense needs addressing immediately as the score of tonight game indicates. I know everyone wants the 85 Bears defense but if you losing games 6-3 or 9-6 what good will that do.

Just want the offense to be addressed half as much as the defense has the last decade. We have drafted high defense almost every year with defensive minded coaches and we look like garbage. We drafted 2 stud offensive lineman in 2006 and they lasted 10 years together. Our offensive line needs to be built up there are no holes for Forte to run through. There was no time for Fitz to throw. Look at the Cowboys and how a stud offensive line will give your rookie RB and rookie QB holes and time to make plays. The holes Elliott has to run through is enormous. That is what the Jets need to either protect a veteran QB or cover up your inexperience QB's. Its time and the final score tonight echos that.

I traded down in round one to take our pass rusher in the bottom of round one and grabbed an offensive lineman at the top of round two. If both players are effective, does it really matter that the defensive player was selected slightly higher than the offensive player?

I also did address our need at CB in free agency and in the draft. A first round pick is not the only way to fill a "need". If you draft well the player will be on your roster for several yearsm. How do you really know what our biggest need will be in 5 years? In the last 5 years we have had multiple pro bowl CBs. Our last great pass rusher was traded before then.

Also, Jeff Lageman was drafted before Parcells got here. While Pace and Jones were great players, Jumbo Elliot was no slouch.

Why would you want the Jets to sign a 35 year old Lt ( Whitworth). That move screams disaster waiting to happen. ( better to restructure Clady if that's the big move you're going to make.

If the money is about equal for those 2 players, Whitworth would be the better signing. At this point in their careers, he is a better overall player than Clady and isn't injury plagued like Clady is.

Because Whitworth is still playing at a high level and Clady isn't.

Yes, it was James Farrior that Parcells drafted instead of Pace or Jones, not Lagemann.

I really don't get that logic. The only first round defensive player I truly want is an edge rusher. It's the one position we've been devoid of since we traded away John Abraham.

A cornerback not only takes time to develop, but can be easily neutralized by throwing away from. The Seahawks are really the only wildly successful team to have a defense built around an elite corner and they did not invest a high asset in him and he's also flanked by two All-Pro safeties along with great edge rushers.

The NFL became obsessed with corners after the Seahawks went to back to back Super Bowls with Sherman. It's similar to how the NFL became obsessed with 3techniques after the Buccaneers won the big game in 2002. In the 2003 draft, 5 defensive tackles went in the first round, and 4 in the top 15 including our stupid trade up to get Robertson.

Just because one team experiences success with a given formula and an elite talent, does not mean it is the only way to win.

It's time for D.Harris to go bye bye as well. Sad, but its time.

Give me 2 o-lineman with the first two picks and a RB with the 3rd... let petty and hack stink it up next year. (or prove us wrong) then draft our QB in 2018. enough is enough. Can't keep drafting young QBs and not giving them the playbook bc your scared the o-line will get them murdered. Build this shit right. Look at Dallas.

I'll cut Revis Mangold Harris Giacomini & Nick Folk to earn a shitload of cap space..

Trade B.Marshall to philly for their 3rd pick... if not i'll settle for a 4th but def. ask for a 3rd. That's more cap space and another draft pick that I'd use on a DB or LB.

I used a 2nd and 3rd round pick on OL and another 2nd on a RB. Why does rveryone seem to think that we NEED to use a first round pick to fix a problem?

What is your point? Going all the way back to 2002 Tampa Bay is relevant how? The NFL has changed leaps and bounds from then and the Jets are stuck on stupid. We need a coach who is creative and has the pulse of the team. Bowles is none of that and the next coach needs to determine the path forward. Having Bowles around another year would be a disaster. He coaches scared as it is and would be in panic mode next year knowing the clock is ticking. So we need to see who will be the best coach fit for the Jets now.

we need a franchise lineman.. or two. There aren't many and our offense is light years better when we getting blocking. So IMO that's something we should invest our highest picks on. I'd draft two straight or rid myself of Revis Harris and Mangold, even trade B.Marshall.. sign a top FA lineman and draft a top one as well.. it's time to rebuild properly.

edit: reply to @James Hasty idk what happened with your reply comment.

Ever hear of the Steelers philosophy that they rather cut a player a year early, than a year too late. There is no guarantee that Whitworth will be effective again next season.

Sooner or later age finally catches up with a player . That player either starts to break down physical ( See Mangold) , or there skills can decline very fast.( see Revis). For that reason I'm very leery of signing players on the wrong side of thirty. ( 35 is ancient)

I rather see the Jets take a chance on young Lt who might have had injury concerns. someone like Menelik Watson who been a right tackle for the Raiders, but his best position probably left tackle. Due to his injury history , he should come cheap. These are low risk but big rewards type of deals I prefer the Jets make.

Yes, I know the Steelers' philosophy and have quoted it several times recently myself. The thing is, Whitworth's play has been getting better with age, not worse. He's only missed two games in 11 seasons. He's another Brick, except his play has not deteriorated like Brick's did.

I totally understand your concern about older players. 35 IS ancient for the NFL. You're right that there is no guarantee that Whitworth will play at the same level next season, especially switching to a new offense with a new team. Still, I want the very best player we can get to protect Petty's blind side. I definitely would prefer that we had a young LT to handle that, but don't want one with an injury history. He does us no good if he gets injured yet again and is on the sidelines in street clothes. I could deal with Ijalana starting at RT, but we desperately need an upgrade at the LT position. I'd love for us to draft Ramczyk, but he may not even be ready to start in the NFL. I'd love for the Jets to sign Whitworth and then draft Ramczyk. If Whitworth stayed healthy and played at a high level, then Ramczyk could start at RT in 2017 and then slide over to LT in 2018. If Whitworth's play suddenly dropped off or he got injured, we'd have to start Ramczyk or Ijalana, but would have the benefit of having Wentworth there to help mentor Ramczyk.

I don't know anything about Menelik Watson, but if he's been playing RT for the Raiders, what makes you think he could play LT for the Jets? Did he play LT in college? Has he played LT at all in the NFL? What kind of injury history does he have? If he's likely to come cheap, then it sounds like he's been injured a LOT. That doesn't sound like a good risk to me. A player like Whitworth who doesn't have the injury history and who has consistently played at a high level, even if older, sounds like a better risk to me.

I just googled Watson and see that he only appeared in 5 games his rookie season (2013) and only started 3. Then in 2014, he appeared in 12 games, starting 9. He evidently missed the entire 2015 season. He has only appeared in 7 games so far this season, and only started 3. He may be supremely talented, but can't stay healthy. Either that, or he isn't good enough to crack the starting lineup when he is healthy. No thanks.

Unless Garrett falls to us - virtually impossible - I would not be looking at taking anyone on "D" in the 1st round. And while the OL has to be addressed like RIGHT NOW!, there isn't anyone worth a high 1st round pick, and of the best ones available, they may go in Round 2. So I think the best way for the Jets to get the biggest impact is to take Fournette. The caveat I would put on that is that it's based on him being healthy. Yes, he was hurt this year, but it's not like he's been injured a lot like Dee Milliner was. An elite RB improves the QB and the OL, and by extension the defense by keeping them off the field so much. I would then look to take OL in rounds 2 & 3. Then I would look to take the best pass rusher or pass defender available in Rounds 4/5.

If Fournette's injury is believed to be more serious, or he is taken before we pick, I would consider trading down and grabbing Dalvin Cook with my first pick, and then the other picks as listed above.

Todd Gurley didn't improve Keenum/Goff or the O-Line.

Taking a RB in the top 10 is a recipe for disaster. David Johnson and Le'Veon Bell are the best RBs in the game and were taken 2nd/3rd round.

    You don't overdraft RBs.

The Browns and Rams took RBs most recently in the top 5 before Dallas did with Ezekiel. Tells you all you need to know.

You don't overdraft any position. That said, if the player is the right one, you pick him. Was Gurley's problem of his own making?
