I don't think most educated fans really believe Petty will be special. i think this is more of a closing the book on this season and evaluating talent for next season. Seeing who may progress and contribute next year and who can be cut regardless.

Its about accepting our 2016 fate and preparing for 2017 as best we can.

I still remember the Matt Simms fan club. Watson is an interesting prospect but the turnovers scare me. He is not a great college passer, which could translate into major problems at the pro level.

I have no issue playing him to test him out. But I am expecting the up and down performances we have seen to date, and that's not good enough in my eyes to give him 2017. The bigger issue is Hack - you would like to take a prospect in the 2nd round who is closer to being ready to play, but so far it does not seem like that is what we have in him.

SHAME! Now that Petty has proven you wrong, come back and eat some crow.

Geno and Fitz had the weapons and failed despite being given every chance.

Petty did it with no Mangold, no Clady, no Fergeson, no Forte, no Breno, Decker. Hell, even Qvale got injured during th e game.

Petty just needs confidence and a little more arc on his deep ball. I think he can get it done.

I've eaten crow. I was impressed by his play in the second half.

That being said he played a 1-12 team with an awful defense. Let's see if he builds off a good half of football in the final three games.

It's not going to be quick growth, every defense he sees the rest of the year is going to be new to him, I expect him to have major ups and downs.

4 games is only good enough to get a young developing QB warmed up, not ready to take the team to the next level.

It should be enough to make his training camp experience next summer a whole lot more meaningful for him! I don't expect his starting time this season to pay dividends by New Years. I do expect it to pay out big by next September.

I think Petty could be special on a team that actually knows how to develop players but what is he really going to do on THIS team?

The Jets have proven without a doubt that they do not know how to develop any offensive players.

Petty could be the next big thing for a team.

    On the Jets?

    He's just the next failure.

These games are going to be immensely important in the maturation process of this kid.

I liked what I saw in the 2nd half, the kid had fire in him.
Loved that throw he made where he rolled out and set himself before hitting his target for a big gain.

The kid hasn't practiced with the 1st team all year until now, let's see what happens week to week as he starts getting in sync with the starters.

We are actually doing a good job developing our young WRs, Bilal Powell, and possibly our young QBs as well. Where we fail is not giving them enough playing time to prove what they can do when the games actually matter. Also, we are doing a horrible job of developing players on defense and special teams.

Our failure to stick with the running game and to make half time adjustments are also a problem.

Of all the problems we have, developing young offensive talent seems to be at the bottom of the list.

The first team is hardly the first team anymore. It's very different from the start of the season.

He showed some signs: a cannon arm, some improvisation, play action skills. He also has some worrying signs - eyes locked on a receiver, inaccurate throws, not seeing wide open receivers. That's why it's important he play these last few games

At the barest minimum Petty gave an average Fitzian level performance at 1/10 the price.

I think the only thing we are likely to learn from these final games are if Petty could be a viable backup. We would need ot see him play meaningful games to decide if he could be a starter. Jury is out on that til next year.
