MM is a bad GM. He got toasted on Revis. a 2nd rd pick on Hack. Don't get me wrong Hack may be good. Could have got him in the 4th, or later. Not for nothing RE Hack. They said he had no supporting cast. He leaves Penn St and last I saw Penn St is a top 10 team.
2nd Rd pick on D Smith, on the road to another bust.
Maybe one day the Jets wil get it.
    We need a QB!

No retread QBs. Either work with the young guys on the roster already, or draft someone you want to work with.

I don't care how much Kaepernick has bounced back, how much Kirk Cousins has improved, or how healthy Romo has become. These guys don't have the Super Bowl in their future.

The only REALISTIC ones from this list that I would bring in and compete with Petty and Hack is AJ McCarron, Foles and or Glennon.

I agree that his health is an issue but that could be mitigated with some creative contract work and making sure there is a competent backup such as a high draft choice (Watson?) or decent vet (Glennon, Foles?) on deck. I say this because I feel the major problem with this team is the lack of offense. I still think this is a decent defense. Yes, they gave up some big plays, but they really haven't been blown out of any games until Monday. If they could put together an offense that is capable of putting some points on the board early and play with a lead for a change, I feel the Jets could get back to being a playoff contender. Having Romo under center could go a long way to making that happen.

Sorry, westie, but I totally disagree. I don't think that this team is even remotely close to being a playoff team, so bringing in a vet would just be a waste. Signing a vet and drafting a QB would also mean that the Jets have 4 QBs again, and that would be dumb imo, unless you're planning on cutting Petty or Hack, and that would be dumb as well. It would be dumb not only because it's taking a precious roster spot, but would also not be giving either Petty or Hack a chance to develop. IMO the Jets need to find out what they have in their two young QBs before they do anything else at the position. If they bring in a young vet like Glennon to compete and he beats Petty and Hack out, so be it. At least he's young and could start for the season and possibly longer. That would bring some stability and continuity. Bringing in an older vet means you'll definitely be changing the QB again in a season.

You're right. It could be dumb, but it's not as if the Jets are immune to dumb decisions. The real question that needs to be answered are Petty and Hack legitimate talents for the starting QB job now? It's quite possible that Jets management already has the answer to that question and it's "no." The reason I put it this way is something Bowles said the other day. He said something to the effect: in the NFL, you first have to earn a starters job in practice, it's not handed to you. Despite what we think of Bowles as a coach, what he said has a grain of truth to it. It's quite possible that the reason Bowles is reluctant to start Petty or Hack is that he already knows they aren't good enough yet. So for arguments sake, let's assume he's right. So now, how to the Jets go forward from here? Petty of course will have the opportunity to prove Bowles wrong in the next few games. Assuming Petty doesn't light it up in the next few weeks, what then? We'll know Petty isn't the answer. Are we ready to turn next season over to Petty or Hackenberg, who, according to Bowles, hasn't done enough in practice to earn a starting job, and see where that takes them? Maybe a better way forward is to bring in Romo as a transition QB. Romo will give the Jets offense instant credibility the way Favre did. I think the Jets could be a good team with a Romo led offense. From there, the Jets have the option to draft a top QB in this draft, or wait a year. If not, to back up Romo they could bring in Foles, Glennon or maybe Kaepernick, guys who might jump at the opportunity to back up an injury prone Romo, or maybe keep Hackenberg. To me, this makes a bit more sense than continuing to put faith in two guys who haven't impressed anyone yet. Finally, we have to consider that Romo is going to play somewhere in the NFL. If nothing else, he's a huge star and money in the bank to any franchise that signs him. The NFL, above everything else, is about money. They are not going to deny Romo an opportunity if he still wants to play (like Favre, Peyton and Palmer) and right now, the Jets, a QB starved franchise, is the logical choice.

Sorry, I just don't buy it.

I don't believe anything Bowles says, but for argument's sake, let's say he is right and that neither Petty nor Hack are good enough. That still is not justification for bringing in Romo. He's older, more expensive and brittle. The rest of the team is not ready to challenge for the playoffs. There are too many holes, and the money and cap space that they'd have to use to sign Romo could be used to sign younger players who could be with the team for more than just a season or two and help the team going forward. Bringing in Romo just continues the delusional "win now" while rebuilding approach. They're not gonna "win now" and all they'd be doing is delaying the inevitable and guaranteeing that they remain mediocre and frustrate us longer.

I disagree that we'll know that Petty isn't the answer if he doesn't "light it up" over the next 4 games. He can learn, show progress and show enough to give the Jets confidence that with additional reps in OTAs, mini-camps, TC and preseason that he'll be at least ready to compete for the job, if not be handed the job, all without "lighting it up." He could still be a question mark, and still improve enough over the offseason and beginning of next season that he proves to be the answer. These next 4 games are not the be-all and end-all in determining Petty's future, or at least they shouldn't be. Marshall said in his lengthy interview that Petty is the first Jet in every morning. He's been working hard lifting weights, studying film and working to improve. He has a great work ethic, is smart and has a great arm. Anyone that writes Petty off this season is being impatient and just isn't using their brain imo.

I disagree with the notion that a QB has to earn the starting job as well. Look at all the 1st round QBs who have come into the league and been handed the job. They have to play their way out of the starting job in order to not start.

They have to try to develop their two young QBs; otherwise, the picks are wasted. It's possible that neither will prove to be the answer, but it's also possible that one or both could develop into quality QBs.

Why bring in a Glennon or Foles to back up Romo? Why not let them compete for the starting job with Petty and Hack, or be the backup for Petty, or even Hack if Hack proves he's ready? We've had enough of the old QBs. I'm done with that. It's gotten us nowhere.

Romo is NOT the logical choice. I'm sorry, but I think he's the illogical choice and makes no sense for this franchise. That would be a Woody move to try to sell tickets. It wouldn't be a move that's realistic with where the team is or one that would be designed to build the team for the future or long term.

I would not be stunned if Geno is resigned, especially if Petty does not look good in his audition.

You make good arguments. I think our disagreement centers around what we think the quality of the Jets is right now. I think there is enough talent on this team to win if the QB problem is fixed. You say there are too many holes and I could agree that there are some holes, but all teams have holes. The successful teams are able to exploit their strengths to the point where their holes are not decisive. I feel the biggest hole on this team is at QB. Your approach to fixing it, committing to Petty and/or Hackenberg, would require the Jets place unquestioned faith in either Petty's or Hackenberg's ability to develop into a franchise QB and be willing to suffer through one or more losing seasons for them to fulfill their promise. Rightly or wrongly, I don't think this franchise is ready to do that for these two guys. It would be a different story if we were talking about a 1st round pick.

It would be a brave move, but there's no way the owner and FO could endure the ensuing drama and criticism. I also think Geno is looking for a fresh start and wants no part of this franchise.

True, but I'd rather have geno than fitz next year. Other realistic option is hoyer or maybe foles. Highly doubt romo or cutler. Throw money at Glennon??

Why should the QB being a 1st round pick vs a 2nd or 4th round pick matter that much? If the QB has a ton of potential, including a great arm, great work ethic, why wouldn't you give that QB every opportunity to succeed? Why keep bringing in older vets for 1-2 years at the time? That will get your team nowhere.

Yes, every team has holes, but that's a tired and over-used argument imo. A QB alone is not going to fix the Jets. They still would have OL problems, and with those that expensive QB you want to sign with an injury history who can't even stay healthy behind the best OL in the NFL isn't going to stay healthy and on the field for very long, and then where are you? They still would have no TE. They still would possibly have no power running back or no speedy RB who could score from anywhere on the field. They'd still have no PR/KOR that's dangerous. They'd still have no dominant pass rusher. They'd still have no secondary.

Quite simply, the Jets have more holes than they do positions fixed.

You really think Geno has a market? If he goes anywhere else, he'll be a backup. If he signed here, he'd have a good shot to be a starter. I wouldn't be so sure that "Geno ain't happening."

I see your point, and I'd be fine with signing him on a one-year deal, but there's a significant portion of our fanbase that would go apoplectic if we brought Geno back. Coming off an ACL, he'll be lucky to get a backup job anywhere. Couple that with the lack of faith our CS and FO has had in him and I don't see him coming back, even as a backup.

Because of the money invested in a 1st round pick. Petty and Hackenberg aren't costing the Jets a ton of money.
