Not only was he not 2nd string, he was 3rd string thanks to Geno. Kid got basically zero reps and zero prep on a poorly coached dog shit team

Gotta see what he can do with reps.

I openly admit he MIGHT suck, but it's way too soon to tell. Odds are he WILL fail because Toilet and Gailey are not exactly QB developers....

    But

Brady had 1 TD pass .... in his first insertion and entire playoff run to SB. He did zero. He had to develop.

    Chill out for now

I agree. I think the kid can be a decent QB if only given the chance. Only problem is that the current CS including the OC is garbage and not even Dak Prescott can play in this offense.

Petty needs to get a chance. You can't expect miracles when you have a shitty coaching staff.

True enough. His game against the Rams was a bit more telling than this one was. He was also told Saturday night that he was starting after riding the bench in practice all week for the Fitzgod leading up to the Rams.

He barely threw the ball within 10 yards. Everything was thrown down the field. You're gonna throw picks in that given scenario, and I believe we only ran the ball once in the second half.

The last four games with a full weeks preparation and definitively playing for his 2017 roster spot will be telling. He might suck. But I'd rather suck with a guy under contract that's 25 years old and garnered a 4th round pick from our front office than a 34 year old guy who might not even be in the NFL next year.

I liked that they let him air it out once he got in....... he's not going to learn what he needs to learn handing it off all the time......

I definitely agree he at least needs a fair shake at it before were calling for his head. for some reason I think he could develop into a matt Stafford like QB wich wouldnt be to bad.

He needs the reps. That way he can develop a better feeling for the routes they run. The overthrows will be cut down with the reps. Now that Bowels has given him the next 4 starts we will get a chance to
    see how he devolves.

He was never drafted to be a starter and has shown nothing in two seasons. The fan base needs to understand and accept that our 2017 QB is not currently on the roster.

    What?

Last season it was all Fitz
    Same this year

What could he possibly have shown?

That being said- he could very well suck

But too soon to tell IMO

The problem with the Jets is too many people who make judgements based on incom
Asinine to say this before he has ever practiced with the starters for a week. The truth is nobody knows because he never had a chance to play. It looks like he will get that chance over the next 4 games, then we can all make an informed judgement, instead of a baseless guess.

My impression is that he kinda sucks, but, you are entirely correct. It's way too early to have any real insight.

You have to wonder if the batphone in his office rang shortly after the game. He can BS all he wants about this being the plan all along but if you believe that, seek help. Bowles had no choice. The empty seats put a gun to his head and indirectly, Woody's. I think the message got sent loud and clear before the game and during the game.

I just hope that the Jets give Petty an honest look and build a gameplan around his skillset. I'd love to see them activate Devin Smith, see if Petty and Smith can connect on a few long ones and resurrect Smiths career.

Having Smith and Anderson on the outside with Marshall in the slot and Enunwa as the TE hybrid is intriguing to me.

One thing Petty does is extend the field that the defense needs to account for. Petty's release on long balls is intriguing. Its like a flick of his wrist and the ball travels 40 yards. He connects on a few more long ones and that opens up some running and slot lanes.

Petty has so many great qualities that I think it really behooves the Jets to do all they can to make it work for him.

If the defense has to account for two deep threats that leaves Marshall to bully CBs 1v1 and Quincy to embarass TEs all game. Connect with a few deep balls and you have a successful game.

Tom Brady wasn't drafted to be a starter either.

What he was drafted to do has literally nothing to do with how he will turn out as a player.

It is too early to tell but I fear that he might not be an NFL QB... here's why. It appears he is lost in terms of reading the defense, he goes with one read only. Also, and along with that, his intermediate game appears non existent. He's got a strong arm so he can let a decent deep pass go and besides that he throws the short passes. He's not finding and hitting a Quincy Enunwa (for example) for a 10/15 yard post, when his deep read is covered.

Not much can be taken from yesterday's game but in general I worry from what we've seen that he's one of these spread QBs that can only process 1 read and checkdown. .. 1 read and checkdown..... but I am glad he's playing the last 4 games so we can find out if thats the case

But he has shown nothing in practice to instill confidence in the coaches or front office that he can be the guy, and his limited game tape so far is not good either. Our fan base acts like if we draft a QB, no matter what round, he needs to be given a long look at QB. That's nonsense. We have no significant investment in Petty. Indeed, what he was drafted for plays a huge role. Had he been taken in the first round to be a franchise QB, he would be given multiple seasons at the helm. A 4th round project may get a game or two to show what he has, or perhaps none at all if he is stuck behind a good veteran.

I have nothing against Petty, but we need to stop acting like the organization picked him to be the future. They did not.

To be fair you just described modern NFL. Dink and dunk. Dink and dunk. Throw a deep pass. Dink and dunk.

In what round was Tom Brady drafted? Nobody is drafted to be a back-up for any length of time.
