When Adam Clendening is the 2nd best defenseman on your roster, your defense is an absolute disaster.
Staal is a decent 3rd pairing defender at this point. I'd of said the same about Klein before the season, but he's been nearly as bad as Girardi has been. Unfortunately we didn't move him in a Brassard-like trade this offseason while he still had some solid value around the league.
No question that Girardi is terrible. Anyone who would argue against that simply is not watching these games. Staal took a huge step backwards last year, but I think he is off to a very solid bounce-back year. He has been a fine player over his career, and I hope he gets back to where he was. Klein is a solid, NHL Caliber defenseman. He is by no means a first-line defenseman, but he is consistent, and could play on any team in the league. The fact that we got him for Del Zotto is mind-boggling to me.
Left wing lock has been a staple used by many teams to stop fast attacking teams in the NHL for years. There is a way around it, AV knows how to beat it, you will see them have success once the youngsters gain some experience in beating the 1-3-1.
Rangers faced some adversity against a good, young Carolina team. Nice to see them come out of both games with wins, in different ways.
The Islanders has a pretty interesting strategy - injure Rangers players until they have a better roster.
