If Romo had the ability to stay healthy, I'd sign up for him coming to NY for a couple of seasons. He would be fairly well motivated in a way that Brett Favre wasn't when he came here back in 2008. Problem is, he couldn't stay healthy behind the best O-Line in the league. What chance would he have behind ours, especially now with Mangold having his own injury issues? As far as Cutler's concerned, no thank you.
neither. roll with petty, hackenberg, and either draft another qb( chad kelly) , or sign a cheaper vet backup if hackenberg is not ready to be a backup.
I mean Favre threw for 4,155 yards on 66.5% with 28 touchdowns/15 picks en route to a 13-3 record before the year we got him. Romo threw for 884 yards on 68.4% with 5 touchdowns/7 picks during his 4 games in 2015. Keep in mind that during his last full season he had the NFL rushing leader and the leagues best offensive line to play action pass off of all season long with a young physical #1 receiver and one of the best tightends to ever play the game. Just saying. Romo also isn't the Cal Ripken Jr. of the NFL like Favre is (although injury probably cost us a playoff run in Favre's season here). I like Romo. He's a really good player if/when healthy or at least he was. By the time we'd get him he's two years removed from playing the game. Can he emulate what he used to do without an elite running game &a offensive line? I don't see any reason he'd want to come here. It could be a lot of fun if he comes here. It also probably sets the franchise back to a 2011/2012 Jets style team and a bare cupboard for a roster. If we get Romo I highly doubt we strip the roster like we will if we don't get him. Expect most of Revis/Harris/Clady/Mangold/Gilchrist back which could stunt the growth of younger players moving forward. I'm torn right now. I don't know if I want a wild ride next year or a truly shitty team that sets us up for the future. It sure would be nice if we would play the young fucking quarterbacks to see if either can hold their own moving forward.
agreed. draft a starting left tackle in round1. seek out talent in the second round at corner. after that, best player avialable , hopefully, olb, te, safety, rb with speed.
Also to add, Romo opens up about a two year window where we absolutely have to try to win a title. That drastically alters the draft & free agency strategy and moves away from getting younger on the offensive side of the ball. Does this rosters as currently constructed look to be a Super Bowl contender? I don't really think so, but I think the roster is better than displayed this year. I just hope if we get Romo, we still stay the course in trying to build a future winner and getting rid of the garbage overpaid veterans on defense.
I can't see Romo coming here if the focus doesn't shift towards trying to win a Super Bowl in the next 2-3 years. I just don't see him being willing to preside over the rebuild that is necessary in New York when there are other, and better, teams that could benefit from his services.
What about a running game? The NFL is so pass happy, guys like Cutler are asked to be magicians. Put him behind a balanced offensive scheme and see what he's like when it's not all on him. The line of Clady, Carp, Mangold, winters, Ijalana did a good job. It was not until Giacomini was reinserted by Bowles and Clady and Mangold went down that they started to struggle. I agree, I don't want Hoyer, or Tony Homo, or Cutler, I would like some one in this organization to figure out how to developed a QB. Something needs to change, even if Gailey is fired, something has to change. There is no way this CS can come back intact next year. We already see how stubborn they are and being inflexible is not a receipe for succes in the NFL.
For anyone questioning Romo's toughness, the dude played with a punctured lungs. He really is a Cowboy.
Romo and it's not even close. I think Tony Romo could have a Kurt Warner like run in him if he gets put in the right situation (Denver). Cutler is counting the days until he retires and will probably cash in on a reality TV Show with his wife. He is DONE
Romo is a markedly better player, when healthy. The problem is that I'm not sure he should ever be counted on to be healthy again. Cutler is a frustrating, enigmatic, inconsistent, mistake-prone quarterback with a ton of physical talent. I'm not particularly interested in the Jets pursuing either guy.
Again, I would pick neither. Adding either Romo or Cutler doesn't make the Jets contenders, and it will set back the development of the younger QBs.
Oh gawd, will it come to this? Sooooo tired of being a stop-gap team when it comes to QB's ugh I guess I'd rather have Romo even tho at this age dude is a glassman. Lol ..I can already see the shitstorm with Cutler here. Once things go tits-up, and they more than likely will, his smug "no shits given" attitude is not gonna fly here at all in NY, and we'll be calling for his head on a platter trying to run him out of town.
i don't think it alters too much. sign romo and we still need ol,cb,lb,rb,te if we don't sign romo we need ol,cb,lb,rb,te only real difference is what we do with the first pick regarding qbs
True. But it definitely could change the age of the players we target in free agency. Youth may no longer be a concern. Some of our own overpaid aging veterans ala Harris, Revis, Gilchrist may be retained to make a Super Bowl run.
Great, the operative words being "Super Bowl run"! Let's run!! The, 2010 team was old at a lot of positions, to a couple years to unwind from that. But it doesn't spoil the enjoyment of crushing the Patsies on the way to the championship game. Anything is better than this losing. Sent from my SM-T710 using Tapatalk
thats ok as long as you draft well. what tanny did would have been ok if there had been draft picks behind the vets ready to step in. instead he dealt away some and the rest never panned out. so when holmes and edwards wer done we had nothing left, when woody hung it up, we had nothing left.
"Cutler is a better fit for the Jets". What the fuck does that even mean? Mark Sanchez is better than Romo. At least he was when they played head-2-head. Romo has piloted the 'Boys to 10 straight 8-8 seasons. In all honesty with all joking aside, Fitzpatrick will be back next season (full training camp) and will battle with Petty for the starting job. Not sure how Geno fits in, he'll most likely walk, but who knows anymore? If Hack is really as bad as ppl say, Hack my get the axe and Geno may get the starting gig. The more things change, the more things stay the same. And frankly, nothing has changed from last season when Macc found himself with 4 QBs and decided to keep them all. Macc might offer Geno a cheap ass contract and let him test FA. Macc may trade up 3 spots and draft yet another QB (he should). My crystal ball is all foggy right now....check back in 5 months!
