Teufel is out, reassigned within the organization. Thank God - he has been pathetically bad the last few years.
Great news, whatever happens. The Mets are clearly now serious contenders for 2017. If Conforto and d'Arnaud could revert back to 2015 form they would probably be NL East favorites.
MLB and the MLBPA have agreed on a five-year collective bargaining agreement, leading to 26 straight years of labor peace. A big change is that only teams above the luxury tax will lose a pick for signing a qualifying-offer free agent, and the pick will be lower than the first round. Further, the luxury tax threshold is going up $21 million over the course of the five-year agreement. That will make free agents considerably more attractive to sign.
More excellent news about the CBA - apparently the idiotic method of having home field in the World Series decided by the winner of the All-Star Game is no more - the home team will now be the team with the better record. Not really fair, since the two team's schedules are so incredibly different from each other, but better than this nonsense using the All-Star Game. I would have preferred it going to the team that came from the league with the better interleague game record, since that is actually a meaningful measure of quality.
No it isn't since not everyone plays the same interleague schedule and it's comparatively much fewer games than the full schedule. But yes it's nice baseball got out of the stone age and awarded home field to the best team like every other sport sans the Super Bowl which has weather concerns.
No, I didn't say that the team with the better interleague record gets the home game, I said the team from the league with the better interleague record gets the home game. That involves dozens of games spread out over all of the teams in both leagues, and in that way the champion of the better league gets the advantage of home field, which makes a great deal of sense to me.
They should weigh multiple factors to even it out. Best record and Interleague record first. If the two teams split then use the all star game as the tie breaker if they want to make that meaningful. If not, use the league with the better interleague record as the tie breaker.
I guess but that's just so convoluted and includes post-trade deadline series where one team (or both) are out of it since interleague runs all year now.
Maybe, maybe not. They would have to give up something to get him, and he had a terrible year in 2016, including on defense (he's been a below average fielder since 2014, in fact). He might be moving into the declining part of his career. It's Bryce Harper who is much more interesting for the Nats. Despite the nonstop hype since he first came up, the fact is that for four of the five years he's been in the majors he has been a slightly-above-average corner outfielder. Everyone seems to think that 2015 is the "real" Bryce Harper, but what if the 2012-2013-2014-2016 version is actually the real one?
Nice news for the Mets, as the Nats lose Mark Melancon, and now need to replace a guy who had 141 saves over the last three seasons. Maybe the Mets should trade them Familia? (Just kidding, I guess.) The Mets have bullpen needs too, obviously, but at least they can slide Reed into the closer's spot if necessary.
Is it fair to say this very well could be our year if we stay healthy? I know it's dumb to say, but is it fair? I feel like if our starting rotation doesn't completely come unhinged like last year, we have as good of a shot as any team. Biggest concern is the bullpen for sure. IDK throw me a bone!!! Im going to be 27 and haven't seen one championship in my lifetime.
We are in the same boat my friend. Just turned 26 and haven't seen shit. Jets. Mets. Knicks. Rangers ( I don't count 94 as I was a baby) We can't expect Wright to play more than 80-100 games. Is Reyes going to be anything good this year? We also have a cluster fuck in the outfield.
I still can't believe we traded Dilson Herrera for Jay Bruce, I am waiting for that to come back and seriously bite us in the ass. I am still baffled, Hererra was considered a can't miss prospect and we've been hearing about him for the last 3 or 4 years. What the hell?
I will not watch any Mets games, until this Tebow circus ends. It's amazing that the 2 teams I root for Mets and Jets feel a need to participate in these Tebow antics.
