Man I'm sure glad we signed Cromartie and Revis to those big contracts. Corners can easily lead you to the promise land.
Lots of our board members eating crow now. Woody Johnson just does not get it, I would rather have a bunch of good football players instead of one great one and a bunch of subpar players. I give him credit for trying to do right by his fans and getting someone he thought they wanted, but he needs to understand that the Jet fans want a consistent winning football TEAM. Only way to accomplish that is by spreading your money across the team as equally as possible, not on one player.
Defensive lineman in general can change the course of a team. There's a couple more out there. JJ Watt, Suh when he was playing for a contract. Justin Houston wrecked the Broncos up front. Luke Kuechly. It's just almost never a secondary player. Maybe Troy Polamalu/Ed Reed but they were always on good teams with other elite defenders so it's tough to say. I remember I got shelled when Idzik didn't hand out huge cornerback contracts his first offseason and I was good with it. Never build from the back up. Could never understand Rex's vision in that sense. He wasn't making the moves but he surely pushed Tannenbaum for good corners. Also to add. Which of these 'top' corner free agents went on to finish on top defenses that made the playoffs? (http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2014CB.php) One? Two maybe? Chris Harris Jr. that resigned with Denver, and Revis (whom was out of reach)? I wish Big Blocker was here to say I told ya so.
Speaking of Blocker, where did he go? Is he still typing a response to someone's reply? He was pretty long winded in his posts.
QB,OL,DL are the foundations of a football team. Honestly, I'd say that CB ranks as one of the least important positions.
2010 afccg, manning showed us how to neutralize revis. he didn't even look at wayne that game. the pass rush couldn't get home and we were done.
