Revis might still be able to cover a #2 on an island/man to man. His days of covering a premier wideout, #1 are over. He needs help in coverage. He also only tackles when he wants to now; at this point in a shitty season not at all. Revis is over paid. That's either on our owner or GM. I never wanted him back after he went to the Pats. Most all in this thread did. Revis won't retire a Jets player. He will probably resign with the Pats and retire with them. Trading him was a mistake (holmes, Sanchez, whoever that shitty turnstile RT was contracts "forced the hand"). Bringing Revis back after a Super Bowl winning season with the Pats was a sin. Even if it, "strengthens the Jets while, weakening the Pats." Which many here claimed. Instead Mevi$ weakened the Jets and made many look like fools
I'd hate to see Revis go out on this note. My question is, is he physically done or mentally done? If it's just the latter, is that another indictment against Bowles? Is the lack of respect for his authority more than just Mo & Sheldon? Despite his faults, players didn't seem to ever dog it under Rex. Less than 2 years into the Bowles era, and there are many players seemingly apathetic.
If you watch the tape there are many instances where its clear Revis does not give his 100% effort to tackle or get into the mix of things. He's trying his best right now to not get beat up too much and I really think that regardless of the money, he really may call it quits. He honestly looks to be going through the motions. Also regardless of who was the mastermind behind resigning Revis, does it really even matter? a very large majority of Jets fans were ecstatic when he was resigned and no one foresaw Revis' play becoming this mediocre. If Woody pushed for it then I applaud him because he recognized that Revis is one of the best defensive players to put on a Jet uniform and recognized how badly the relationship between Revis and the Jets had gotten. Resigning him was an instant fix to a bad secondary, a public relations boost, and an air of confidence and stability to re-energize a pissed fan base, also new coach who is known to require a good secondary to scheme crazy blitz packages. The way I see it is Revis' play literally fell off a cliff, and it makes the deal look worse than it was intended to be. Also, the way the contract is structured allows us to cut him this offseason without very serious consequences

It was more than just signing a shut down corner. It was symbolism that the team was righting the ship that they had sunk the previous two seasons. Sometimes you need to do things like that. I like that my opinions control the Jets win/loss record though.
Did anyone hear Boomer and Carton talking about this on their show this morning? They absolutely reamed Mehta, saying how he apparently was standing right next to Revis in the locker room yesterday and refused to ask him if what he (Mehta) was about to say in print was the truth. That is the height of shoddy journalism. I go with what a few people have already said - yes, our eyes tell us that Revis is playing dismally this season, and yes, he does seem to be avoiding contact, but I will never believe a word that Mehta says. He is the very definition of a journalistic hack.

I doubt it will happen based on what Bowles has done so far, but Revis, Fitzpatrick, and all the other under-perfomers need to be benched and play the younger, hungrier guys. Let's find out what we actually have now. How does it make any sense to win games that can't get you into the playoffs and lower your draft position? If Bowles won't do this, then Woody has to.
