http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...onfidant-doesn-play-anymore-article-1.2893490 It's Mehta but I actually think there is truth here. I do not think Revis "tanked" the season I do believe that he has greatly diminished though. IMO, he hasn't been the same since the concussion he got in the Houston game last year.
NFL Rumors: Darrelle Revis doesn't want to play anymore and 'tanked' his season (via NY Daily News) :eyes: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...e=twitter.com&utm_campaign=NYDNSports+Twitter
It does look like that on the field and even Westhoff commented on the post game show that Revis looked like he didn't wanna tackle anyone...I would still put money on Mehta making up his source.
Question, if Mehta is correct and Revis retires, would we still be on the hook for the remaining portion of his contract, or would the entire remainder of his contract come off the cap?
My understanding is the team would be on the hook for the remaining portion that was guaranteed , being 6 million for 2017, regardless if he retires or released
Crap! OK, thanks. I think he should be cut if he doesn't retire, and just take the hit, but was hoping that if he retired we wouldn't have to pay.
Best article Mehta has ever written. Not saying much, as his whole career is just as much of a hack as Revis' 2016 season, but still. It makes sense at least because Revis has been awful. Being old is one thing, lack of effort is disgusting and I have seen Revis give none MULTIPLE times this year. He is my least favorite Jet right now. Fitzpatrick at $12 million has been much better value than Revis this year. Insane to say, but true.
Probably a load of bullshit with his sources. They're likely a thread on this board. However, I like the tenor of the article. Embarrass the player publicly (as our soft coach and general manager won't do by benching him or calling him out) to hopefully help the franchise out in getting him to take a paycut or retire. Revis at $3-4 million/year would be a great player on this roster, to provide some veteran leadership in terms of teaching them his trade. His cap number is $15 million next year. Disgusting.
Well it's far better than than the 15.3 million cap hit if he had stayed on the roster. He should be gone either way, whether it was his decision or the teams. That's why the deal was always viewed as a 2 year, 39 million deal.
JV, if he comes back its at minimum $6mill but the way he's playing right now he is not worth even $3-4million. He has mailed it in, he avoids contact, he doesnt' even fight for the ball anymore he just gives 15 yards of cushion and goes from the soft tackle after the catch, that's not veteran leadership. Tell him he can retire or be cut. Father Time is undefeated
True enough. Maybe a drastically reduced salary could help his motivation. Or perhaps at $3-4 million he tries to play free safety. Like you said though, he avoids contact. And safeties need to tackle. So you're probably right. He should just retire.
He's not coming back for 3-4 million. He's already guarantee 6 million whether he retires or released.
Don't see how a reduced salary would motivate a selfish, money-first/team-second, player like Revis. He will surely retire than play for less money. That is not even an option. He is probably realizing that NO ONE in the NFL will offer him anything next year and has already decided to hang them up.
