One of the beauty's of having to fill so many holes is that "need and BPA" should be one and the same all the way through round 3...
so,with no qb or lt worthy of a top 5 pick, who exactly is it that teams will be willing to move up for? nit singlingyou out specifically but everyone who is saying trade down, why would other teams trade up when there is no qb or lt?
I still trust Mac to do what's right for the team. He has to know he fucked up big time with the Darron Lee and hack picks? All you have to do is watch this abomination knowing that he selected a PART TIME player and you can easily become infuriated. The Hack pick is even more a of a gamble than Darron Lee. Neither player has helped us win a single game this season. This is why I felt the Jets needed an every down player, a player that would have made instant contributions. OL would have definitely filled that bill. There were several players worth trading up or even down for. Brandon Shell sucks and I doubt he'll ever be anything more than depth at best. Mac has to know this. He will manage the draft MUCH better in 2017 than he did this last draft. This last draft will likely go down as one of the worst in recent memory...............
Yes, we have to go all the way back to 2012 for a worse draft.....LOL. Jets probably win 2 more games and end up 5-11, picking 7 or 8.
Some teams have been chirping about this for a couple years but few, if any, are following it. The cowboys have drafted pretty good the past few years by focusing on the OL. Wouldn't mind the jets taking that approach, at least in the 1st couple rounds or so. Now it doesn't have to be all in one draft but i think its imperative to get a tackle AND a guard/center early in the 2017 draft. Then put the finishing touch on the OL in 2018. Realize the draft boards can get crazy but the jets really need to upgrade the line.
Tanking is a good strategy. Why limit yourself to whatever is left at 8 if you can lose a couple meaningless games and pick from any player except maybe 2 or 3? Not to mention that even if you blow the first rounder, tanking allows you to pick higher in round 2, 3, 4...
I mean. Darron Lee played pretty good yesterday in full time action. On the surface it seemed like a luxury pick, but when you look at how awful our linebackers had been (especially in coverage) I'm OK with it. It's not what I would've done but with Harris likely to be cut at his salary and garbage available at inside backer, Lee is the present and future of the position. He's not as dynamic, but go ask Carolina how much they love their attacking speedy first round linebackers. Lee could be a force next year if he gets a little bit stronger and stays healthy. Assuming no trade up, who would you have taken? Doctson/Treadwell can't get on the field, Garnett was a huge reach, Ifedi is a part of a shitty Seattle offensive line and the rest outside of Will Fuller for a couple games early in the season have been non-factors. Artie Burns & Michael Thomas are the only players select in the next 20 after Lee that may have been worth a damn thus far.
Draft one of the stud OL at the top. Time to build a beast in front. Lee is going to be GOOD. If you didn't see it from last weeks game then I don't know what to tell you. His speed and athleticism is special. Even if he didn't make the play to stop Lewis from getting the first, he made the tackle and he damn near had him for a 4 yard gain. Anyone else or the old ass LB's instead that would have been a 20 + yard gain. Wait until he learns out there. I like Mauldin off the edge. He's showing he has some burst and bend to get pressure. The WR corps has a ton of promise. I definitely trust Mac to bring the parts here.
If there is a top LT then we take him the moment our pick is on the board. Also, with the strength of RB's in this draft. It would be great to snag one. Then it would probably be an edge rusher or a CB to replace the beach whale on the island.
Mauldin just needs more playing time, he is definitely on the losing end when the jets go to a 4-3 line up, he rarely sees the field when that happens. Lee is going to be an awesome football player, why guys are still hating on this pick makes me SMH, he is still a rookie and he is already leading the team in tackles. He is incredibly smart, during his interview, he spoke about his assignment on the 4th down play where the pats coverted, he explained that "he was supposed to show blitz, but his mistake was he needed to take 2 steps to his left, he said he would have stopped him short of the first down if he had taken those two steps" This guy is going to be an excellent player for the jets for a long time. I trust Mac as well.
OL and QB are weak this year. You have to take what the draft gives you. Round one, trade down and take one of several pass rushers, Round two, get one of the top center prospects to replace Mangold. With the depth at DB in this draft use the extra picks to find one or two guys.
We've been trying to trade down for years now it feels like, never seems to happen. Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
Mike McGlinchey is the closest thing but he has said he is staying in school. Who knows though, Will Fuller also said that last year.
Is he definitely staying? Some guys say that but as the draft gets closer and they see they will be able to cash in as a top 5 pick, they become eligible and go back and finish school afterward.
Because it rarely is a real option. there needs to be a player worthy of the picks a team has to give up and also a player we don't need. considering where we have been picking and the state of the roster lately it could have happened with l.williams but I'm not sure anyone wanted to give up a bunch of picks for a d lineman thats not an edge rusher. People on this board say "trade down" like its a simple proposition.
