Hack and Petty weren't that far off to begin with. If the Jets want to make this work, every decision going forward has to be in the best interest of Christian Hackenberg. Once the mechanics are re-worked, he will be far better then Petty. In a lost yr, it would've been beneficial to start the Hackenberg Reclamation Project earlier [meaning re-tooling of mechanics and more reps].
It's not about how good Petty is at the moment. I'm guessing Fitz in fact gives Jets the best chance to win. They need to start Petty to see if he can amount to anything in the future.
I agree, that is clear at this point. Much like the immortal Matt Simms, the team does not view Petty the way some in this fan base do. He is not going to be given starts or a serious chance to develop, not while Bowles is coach. I think it is an open question as to whether the team even deems him worthy of a 2017 roster spot.
The most intelligant thing ive read about this topic so far...And 100% true.Other then the other argument= "Bowles is an incompetent peice of shit"
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the New York Jets have NO Future other than the hamster wheel they've been on for the last 48 years.
Next year doesn't exist. The future is a mirage. Its the carrot in front of the horse. Fitz is the GOAT when it comes to Bowles and Jets HQ.. All Petty and Hack can do is pray for a trade.
Meh, if the car smokes and sputters in the driveway you don't need to take it on the interstate to know it won't run well
yikes... I'm not saying Hackenberg is trash or anything but to see it spelled out like that - our only hope as a franchise is hanging on Christian Hackenberg figuring out how to play football - has me pretty well freaked out and ready for a longggggg few years.
Remember when " you could never have enough Tebow".... Bet you thought we've gotten smarter since then huh...
We don't know how he'll develop, the project might last only 1 year. He was the wildcard of the draft after all. If the Jets have a plan, then they have to shore up the line and ensure to have a good running game. Mac drafted him in the 2nd and with that, put his cards on the table. If Mac is freaked out by that, then he shouldn't have drafted him in the first place. Was I a fan of the selection? No, but you can't deny the kid has the arm and the brain to be a player in this league. If they truly have a plan to fix his mechanics, it'll be a great investment, but they have to ensure it works out and that starts with the roster. I'm all in for that plan, because it hasn't happened this specific way before in terms of the developmental plan. Sanchez, Geno, Jets did it all wrong.
Still shows this organization is Qb blind. Not all that different as we still search out and support lousy Qb's no matter what. To our credit, we now proudly have the worst QB in the NFL starting for a 3-8 team because he gives us the best chance to win although winning really is meaningless at this point.
You know what? Even though I hated this idea when you first posted it (because I thought Petty the only realistic shot at having a decent QB next season), I'm now on board with it. There is no hope for this damn team. I hope that Mac tells Woody to shove this team up his ass and resigns, but before he does that, I hope he trades Petty, Peake, Anderson, Enunwa and Powell to other teams. To hell with Woody and this screwed up team.
this organization is football blind, but if they can hit on this, it'll change everything. Sucks to see Fitzpatrick out there on a weekly basis, hopefully this is the last week after they lose.
If Petty is not the answer and the coaching staff is not high on him, then why did this organization go with 4 QBs? It's really sad when you think of it, Fitz is not the answer, Geno is not the answer, Petty is not the answer, Hack is redshirted, why didn't they just cut Geno, Petty and sign some journeyman to backup Fitz until Hack was ready? Just a lot of weird moves by this CS and FO, I understand they were cheap but there is no reason to keep scrubs on the team just because they are cheap.
I read somewhere that Macc had takers for Petty but wouldn't pull the trigger. I'm hoping Macc trades him this offseason.
i think they were higher on geno than the board is and were optimistic about petty. obviously that has changed now
