He has looked a lot better this year. Last year I felt he was the worst starting QB in the NFL. He has really bounced back. But he's a loon and just needs to close his mouth.
Fitz will keep playing because he gives Bowles what Bowles believes is the best chance of saving his job. Fitz knows he is playing for his next job too, so he will continue to play decent, just like he did yesterday. This offseason, we will once again face the "decision" of whether to re-sign Fitz for way more money than he is worth or go another direction. Judging by what Bowles has said thus far, Petty and Hack aren't going to be franchise QBs. Yes, I know Bowles sucks, is incompetent blah blah, but I trust his judgment a hell of a lot more than you bozos because he sees them every day in practice. If Petty/Hack were seriously outperforming Fitz in practice, one of them would be starting. Since Fitz will remain our best option because our young QBs aren't making the grade, I believe there's a high likelihood that we will re-sign Fitz, draft another QB, and repeat this shitshow next year. If we start to see billboards, I expect Woody to seriously consider cleaning house again so that we can embark on a new vision of Jets football until the next billboards appear.
Fitz will not be coming back next season, he stands for everything that went wrong this season and I don't think Woody would even allow for him to come back. Only QB that I would go after is Mike Glennon. Can't continue to chase retread QB's who are old or have an injury history. At least with Glennon you can say he's young, performed relatively well as a starter when he did start for the Bucs. People have said that he can be a pretty decent starting QB. Romo is made of glass, Cutler has a bad attitude and plays way too loose. Preferably, I would rather just evaluate Petty, and Hack before seasons end so we know how to go forward. We may even be lucky enough to draft Trubisky if we lose out and he declares for the draft
My question to you is if Glennon has so much potential as you claim, why were the Bucs quick to give up on him and draft Winston? That has to tell you something.
The reality is that Tony Romo or Jay Cutler will be he Jets starting QB next season unless Bowles is fired and the team does a complete rebuild (which I do not expect). If Trevor Siemian has more games like last night the rest of the way, that may remove Denver from the Romo sweepstakes and put us at or close to front runner position. Some of the other names on the list are preposterous. Cousins has a 0% chance of leaving Wash, and even though he has underwhelmed Bortles is not going anywhere. No reason for Bills to move on from Taylor. Bradford would be interesting if he becomes available but I don't think he will with the uncertainty around Bridgewater's health. Palmer is not an option for me, no way. He is shot.
No ringing endorsement for Petty, but Hack is going to go through the reclamation project. Hopefully he improves massively going into next season and we see what he has to offer. If we suck, we suck. No Fitz!
Fitz knows the system. Him and Gailey are lovers. "If you take away that Chiefs game, Sixpatrick has more TDs than INTs." That'll be the mindset. SIXPATRICK OUR 2017 STARTING QB!!!
Gailey deserves a large part of the blame this season. His play calling has been terrible Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
And I guess you are going to pay him because the Jets certainly can't, they are already over the cap without him.
The only three UFA QBs worth a look are: Kirk Cousins (28) - Will probably resign with Redskins, and would cost too much. Brian Hoyer (31) - Cheap and better than Fitz, but only a place holder. Mike Glennon (26) - I think he is the answer, won't break the bank and better than we have on the team now. Draft? Mitch Trubisky is a good looking QB and completing almost 70%, but never plays from under center. Other than Trubisky, I don't think any would be able to beat out the two young QBs we already have. People were pretty high on DeShone Kizer, but his stock is dropping and he looked horrible this week. Deshaun Watson at Clemson is high ranking but throws too many INTs and his stats are inflated with the receivers he had. Not only did Watson have the best WR in college (Mike Williams) but he had Artavis Scott who should be a second round pick in the draft. It didn't hurt having a top ten RB in Wayne Gallman either. I say Glennon or Trubisky are the best and cheapest bets for 2017.
What makes people think a lot of these quarterbacks won't be getting Osweiler structured contracts? We had to pay the scrub we're starting now $12 million dollars. Chase Daniels received $7 million per year with 464 career passing yards. I'd be cool with Glennon. But we're going to break the bank for him to the tune of 4-5 years $65-$80 million range IMO.
The answer to me is clear. Start Petty/Hack the rest of the way. If they don't show a ton of promise, go after Romo for a reasonable price. The reason I like Romo is because of the flexibility I believe we would have with him. He's old and gets hurt a lot, and if it doesn't work out he could be out after one year. Carson Palmer is a similar option. But no matter what: Draft a QB if there's one available that we like. For me that means Trubisky, maybe Kizer early in the draft. This is why getting Petty/Hack playing time is key the rest of the way this year. We will probably have the opportunity to take a QB in the top 5 of the draft. We have to figure out if we need to, because the opportunity to do that doesn't come every year.
Why? If he was so great the Bucs wouldn't of been In a hurry to draft Winston so quickly. That has to tell you something....
