He's already, in limited action, proven to be better than Fitz. He doesn't stare down his first read and then throw it there anyway. He hits receivers in stride. Fitz makes receivers look bad throwing behind them or into the dirt at their feet. Petty can throw downfield. Fitz couldn't overthrow a snail.
Here is the main reason. Bowles is now coaching for his job. Woody had probably told him, yes the season is over. I want a great game against the Pats. You can play whomever you wish. The team is relatively healthy and should be pumped up at home. But if they lay an egg, that's a reflection on you the coach and it's your job on the line. That is what I think is happening.
I think if Chan actually comes up with a real NFL gameplan instead of the Pop Warner bullshit he trotted out 2 weeks ago, Petty could actually show what he can or cannot do. Some people are not good test takers but they certainly know the material. I get the feeling if Petty isn't showing anything in practice, it may be because he's not the best practice Qb. It could also be that Gailey is also giving Petty bullshit to work with in practice too. Its not like Gailey has anything invested in Petty, but has everything invested in FitzTragic.
Totally agree. Hell, the guy has already completed 2 perfect screen passes! In the game where Fitz got hurt and he came in he completed a flawless screen pass on his first attempt - holy shit! The fact that such a basic pass was completed by a Jet QB shows how fucking pathetic the QB play has been since Sanchez arrived. I was encouraged that Petty didn't embarrass himself at all against one of, if not the best DL in the league and one of the better defenses overall. I also loved how he spoke after the game. The guy accepted what he did poorly and owned it - no deflecting, no 'woe-is-me' shit.
Well, as per Todd Bowles, since Petty didn't throw 10TD's, he's not ready to be the starting Qb. Go Figure..

I think that's spot on. Woody said beat the Pats or at least stay competitive with them and then you can play the kids. At least I'm hoping this is Fitz last start and is only playing for the reasons you outlined. If he starts the rest of the season, no one should go to the remaining home games. No one. That's a lot more effective than a stupid billboard.
It sounds like a lot of people feel like jimmy G is not leaving New England.... but he actually is probably the most likely to leave since he won't also be leaving a starting quarterback vacancy.
