99% of what has been on SNL for the last 20 years has not been funny. Like a blind squirrel finding a nut, they get lucky once in a while and come up with something slightly humorous.
There Is No Violent Hate-Crimewave in 'Trump's America' Please stop spreading unsubstantiated stories of Trump-induced terror. The first one to really go viral involved a Muslim female student at the University of Louisiana who claimed to have had her hijab ripped off and her wallet stolen the day after Trump's election by two white men wearing Trump hats. But on Thursday, local police announced that the young woman had admitted she fabricated the story. "This incident is no longer under investigation," the Lafayette Police Department said in a press release. In another incident, this one in San Diego, a young Muslim woman's purse and car were stolen by one white male and one Hispanic male. While the men allegedly made negative comments about Muslims, it seems car stealing was more their motivation than harassment or intimidation—which is obviously ................ty, but not necessarily a Trump-inspired act of bigotry. And an alleged incident of a gay man named Chris Ball getting beaten up by Trump supporters in Santa Monica on election night seems to have not happened the way it was initially recounted, if the incident even happened at all. The Santa Monica Police Department posted a message to Facebook Thursday saying that neither the department nor city officials had "received any information indicating this crime occurred in the City of Santa Monica" and "a check of local hospitals revealed there was no victim of any such incident admitted or treated." Other instances of "Trump inspired" violence and vandalism have also turned out to be hoaxes or misinterpretations. An alleged Ku Klux Klan rally in honor of Trump's victory turned out to be an old photo of conservatives carrying U.S., Gadsden, and Christian flags the message scrawled on an Elon University whiteboard post-election—"Bye Bye Latinos Hasta La Vista"—was actually "written by a Latino student who was upset about the results of the election and wrote the message as a satirical commentary," according the school's vice president for student life. The same for a Nazi flag that went up over a house in San Francisco last week. In Pittsburg, California, a sign reading "You can hang a n****r from a tree / Equal rights he will never see!" was posted aside a house, and shared in a photo on Twitter November 12 by a man who wrote: "My sister texted this to me 10 minutes ago. Our democracy is being tested even in California." This post was retweeted more than 4,200 times. But it turns out the sign was posted by a black man, on his own house, long before last week in protest of a grievance the man has with the court system. "Police said they planned to cite the man for the banner's message," reported the East Bay Times, "but upon further review Monday discovered that they already did so last week." and on and on.... The bottom line is that when it comes to physical aggression inspired by this election, we are looking at a little more than a dozen incidents reported, over a 10 day period, in a country of roughly 318.9 million people—none of which resulted in serious injuries. I was a bit unsure of where to post this, but figured it'd fit in here. My company places an emphasis on helping during the holiday times. We send staff to help at places like food pantries and other such places. Regardless, I attend these events and oversee the staff. We attended a food pantry today to help them distribute food for Thanksgiving. Depending on the family size they received one or two bags of all the Thanksgiving fixings as well as a turkey (small, medium and large). I observed families coming in where the mothers had Michael Kors bags ($200+), an authentic Redskins jersey ($300+) as well as everyone having a brand new smart phone. One of our staff members pointed out to me that on particular family member rolled up in a BMW. I couldn't believe it. These were people coming to pickup a free Thanksgivinng meal for their entire family. It's truly a shame because there were people there that didn't have the luxuries and truly needed the help with groceries, but a lot of them could certainly afford these other luxuries, but couldn't afford groceries? Do with it what you will, but I was friggain appalled, especially growing up in a middle class family that struggled at times, but would never take a handout like groceries as we were able to get by. Also, to add on to this, we as a country are taking care of people whom find the money to pay their $150 phone bill, yet not our veterans? Sickening.
A Jersey food pantry. I'm not gonna dive deeper into details and I'll probably honestly delete that post in a bit, as I wouldn't want it to be traced back to me for professional reasons. It was incredible though and I felt as though I had to share. I've always known things like this happen with food stamps and such but I had no idea it was this deep.
Trump posted a video of himself on Youtube. He also disabled the comments and the thumbs up/down feature. So much for encouraging Americans to speak their minds.
I hate to break this to you but this is not news, this has been occurring for a really long, long time and is happening everywhere. Shit my next door neighbor has a brand new 2016 Lexus parked in his front yard and gets 800 dollars a month in food stamps. Believe it or not, but people who do not work or do not make that much money (i.e. minimum wage) live just as comfortably as a working couple bringing in 60-70 grand a year. There has to be some adjustment to how government assistance is provided to the public in terms of food stamps, power bill vouchers and free cell phone plans. There are too many people who are not working and just being a leech while the people who actually need it get less and less because resources are stretched thin due to this group of people in this country.
While I am all for reining in the public assistance fraud that is going on but to claim that, "people who do not work or do not make that much money (i.e. minimum wage) live just as comfortably as a working couple bringing in 60-70 grand a year" is ludicrous. I know many people that can not find work and even with food stamps and other assistance they do not have an extra nickel in their pocket. Sure there are some that work full time off the books yet still take all the benefits they can but to act as if most getting assistance are living high on the hog is just wrong.
Of course nothing is absolute but there is a large majority of people who are. My wife runs a home daycare and currently has 8 clients. 6 of the clients have their daycare expenses supplemented through a government agency so that the parent only has to pay a very small portion of the cost and the rest of the local community foots the bill for them to come here. ( FT daycare for a week is 150. The agency will pay 125, the parents pays 25). Every single one of these clients have newer automobiles, the newest i-phone / droid phone on the market, nice clothes, kids come in with tablets and their own phones and all of them get around 8 grand every year from tax returns for their contributions to society, all while receiving WIC ( which is a good program) food stamps and daycare payment assistance. All of these clients have "significant others" but none of them claim they aid in their finances, so they qualify for all of these benefits while enjoying a two income household. Now I know there are the legitimate people who are straight up broke and are getting assistance ( I was one of them shortly after having my son and getting laid off) but this type of culture is a lot more prevalent than you even realize.
