I didn't hear it but that's not the way to handle it. I get the feeling that Mac is cold blooded enough to make changes as needed...no reason to put anyone on blast just yet.
Really? Because I get the complete opposite feeling from him. He ended up giving in to the contract demands of Fitzpatrick and Wilkerson. Fitz playing like shit and Wilkerson is giving a half assed effort. He went out and overpaid Revis because everyone and their mother in New York were dying for him to come back, all the while New England was running his contract up through the god damn roof. I understand that a GM isn't going to come out and say that he's going to force the head coach to play Petty, as he took the high rode when discussing it saying it's Bowles decision. But he damn well better be telling Bowles to play the fucking kid.
Read the following article and you'll see why Mac won't/can't order Bowles who to play. http://nypost.com/2016/11/16/bryce-petty-hesitation-reveals-power-problem-jets-owner-created/ Fucking Woody.
If true, the structure is all fucked up. It doesn't seem like they're on the same page at all. Good job, for the second time in a row they've forced a GM and a head coach to unwillingly work together. What a moron Woody Johnson is. I've read that Maccagnan's real choice was Doug Marrone, but all of the media bashing that ensued when they found out he was a candidate is the reason Woody pulled away from hiring him (whom Maccagnan wanted).
Woody is the one who needs to make the order here to play Petty. Not Maccagnan, not Bowles. Most football decisions should be made by the football guys but this isn't so much a football decision but a long term organizational decision. This is a perfect example of when the "invisible hand" of the owner is necessary and when most good owners would step in....... Not during draft day, free agency, or when someone puts Tim Tebow on the trade block, thats when owners should STFU and stay out of it.
I totally disagree. Woody is a clueless tool. That dumb bastard shouldn't be making any football decisions. That's the GM's job. As others have stated, Woody only cares about money and the fans coming to the games, and he probably thinks that they have to win as much as they can for that to happen. He doesn't understand the necessity of seeing what they have in young players. In typical Woody fashion his making Bowles and Mac "equals" is what has screwed things up.
1. Start Petty for the rest of the season, he is coal waiting to be molded into a diamond, just needs the pressure and we'll see if he breaks or shines. Well likely lose most of our games anyways. 2. Fast track Hacks mechanical overhaul. Start ASAP off the books if necessary. 3. Draft Fournette high. A reliable RB does wonders for a young QB and Fournette has star power. 4. Draft Forrest Lamp in the mid rounds. One of the most efficient linemen in college, the most successful against the Alabama front 7 this year. Insane that he's not talked about more. He'll find a place on a line in the NFL, so let's try to make sure it's ours. 5. Take advantage of this deep DB class. We can easily squeeze some starters out if we look at these guys thoroughly. Go into next year a little better everywhere.
Oh good grief already. Are the Jets really ready to run a second consecutive GM out of town after two seasons because people don't like his mid-season press conference?
Namath was drafted by the Cardinals. I don't think that scenario would have saved you any heartache at all.
I'm not saying that at all. My only point was that besides Leonard Williams and Quincy Enunwa, I was wondering what else he could have said that "looked good".
Did he really cave into Wilkerson's contract demands? At the time we were all pretty happy with Wilkerson's contract. I'm fairly certain his contract was worth much less than we were expected. Now he hasnt played up to the contract at all, but I dont see how Mac can be blamed in any way. Tough to see Wilk playing this bad.
Manish Mehta is a hack but as of late he actually has been writing about legitimate problems that plague the team http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...wles-won-petty-jets-starter-article-1.2877293 Bowles is scared that if he starts Petty the players will revolt and he will lose control of the team. If this isn't pretty telling about how bad of a coach Bowles is, then I don't know what is. At this juncture, what does Fitz offer the team? If players refuse to play with Petty then cut them or bench them. The culture of the team is diabolical and embarassing. I think I've finally come around to the the idea that I would prefer Bowles be fired at season's end and allow Macc full control to find his own head coach. The power structure that both coach and GM have to report to Woody is dumb. Let Macc hire his own guy, and see how the team plays.
That has some surface logic to it. If Petty looks that bad in practice, I could see not wanting him playing. You play to win the game. That said, given how bad Fitz looks on TV when the games count, if they still think he's a better option than Petty, I think you have to cut bait on Petty.
The very fact Bowels said that should get him fired before the day is out. And why would he say it now, isn't everybody off this week?
oh no... what if the players "revolt"????? They might like get beat deep every game.... or turn the ball over every game.... or let QBs have a easy day at the office against them... or.. oh wait they already do that now. don't trot Fitzpatrick out there, bowles, seriously
If the Jets' players are truly that stupid, then Mac definitely needs to burn this shit down and clean house. I refuse to root for morons. Anyone who thinks Fitz should still be starting is too stupid to waste time on.
