Then you'd have to fire every GM in the league because they all passed on him at some point. I feel the more important point when evaluating QB's like Prescott and Wilson, who came from nowhere to be good starters, is what they meant to their college football teams. Both Wisconsin and MSU were typically not the cream of their college divisions, but both these guys brought those programs into national prominence. When evaluating QB's who don't run pro-type offenses, I feel this aspect of a QB's makeup is often overlooked.

Dak P wouldn't be Dak P if he'd been drafted by the Jets.

The better question is: "How long until the Jets are playoff caliber again?" Because they don't look close. Their best players are old. Their young players look terrible. It is truly a mess. I could see another terrible year in 2017. Maybe things get back on track in 2018. Hard to know though.

This season was lost the moment we finished 10-6 last year and had to go back to Fitzpatrick for this year. Fitzpatrick played so well last year that we really had no choice but to bring him back. Fitzpatrick screwed us this year by first holding out instead of getting in here early in the off-season to begin prep for this year (not that it may have mattered because in the end he played to the back of his football card which I guess shouldn't be too surprising) and then with his play on the field. I like Fitz and appreciate what he did last year, but it's time to move on to Petty. he did some nice things yesterday and showed some potential. We need to keep seeing what he can do and if by week 16 he hasn't improved or has taken a drastic step backwards we then should throw Hackenberg in for the final two weeks.

Regarding Bowles, I believe he should absolutely be back next year. There are a lot of things I like about him, but clearly there are things he needs to clean up. First, if he is going to be a strict coach then he needs to putting some of these players on blast. being late is unacceptable. Second, while his game management is improved from last year it still needs some work. And third, I want to see better game plans from our coaches. I don't see a plan, I can never tell what kind of team we are. What is our identity?

Regarding roster changes, next year may be the massive overhaul. We may need to prepare ourselves to say good-bye to Mangold, Revis, Richardson (if someone is willing to give up a decent draft pick for an $8M DL), Marshall or Decker etc.

We still need to determine if either Petty or Hackenberg will be our future QBs or make a giant leap and draft one with the high 1st Round pick we are sure to have (also depending if there are any actual worthy QBs this year).

Usually I'm as pessimistic as they come when considering the NY Jets but that's because I've been a fan since Joe Willie. Nevertheless, I think the whole thing could be turned around quickly with the acquisition of a good QB. Decker's injury hurt, but besides that there is a good nucleus of receivers. All they need is a guy who can get them the ball consistently. Doesn't have to be a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but someone on the second tier like Brees/Roethlisberger/Eli Manning/Rivers level could provide the offensive punch desperately lacking. Even a guy like Ryan Tannehill, who granted hasn't won much down there, but I've always thought he has the skills necessary to win if he had the right talent around him. I'm not suggesting the Jets get one of these players but someone on that level or close to it through trade or draft. The defense is good enough to win, they just never get to play with a lead and that's been hurting them.

Usually I am as optimistic as they come. Guess we reversed roles today. :) In football you can turn things around quick, but I feel the Jets O-line needs completely revamped, the secondary needs to be revamped, and yes they need a QB. If all those things happen, of course they can compete in 2017. Easier said than done though. Let's just say I had playoff expectations for 2016, now I certainly will not for 2017.

the offense looks bleak.. we have holes everywhere ..we haven`t draft an offense player in the first round since sanchez that in it self is amazing.. we dont have one top-flight young wideout or back.... in fact who was the last back or receiver we got round one ?? K johnson?? ..the offense line is a mess ..there soo many holes to fill ... where to begin?? ..yes we should play petty, and hack to see what we have in them ...at the same time im afraid for there lives with this O-line .... we have nothing worth trading ..who`s going to want richardson with his past or mo with that contract?? if we were to trade them you got to know were not getting much in return maybe a 3 round pick if ur lucky?? ...cut revis, marshall, mangold and start fresh..bowles is officially on notice!!! and for GOD sake`s!!!!! please don`t draft defensive player in the first round!!!!!!!

  8. 1.The overall culture- Stop marketing & touting the organized events that suggest this team has a proud successful heritage. The team needs to humble itself for good. Enough of the false bravado. This is a BROKEN product on & off the field. If these "Star" players were serious & dedicated about being New York Jets...they wouldn't be out after curfew or missing important obligations to go to strip clubs. You wanna pull that stuff during the dog days of training camp or in the true offseason...have at it.For 16(hopefully more) weeks..it should be about taking care of the body & doing whatever it takes to win. The fans of this organization..that have suffered for so long deserve that at the very least. If the players don't like that..request not be drafted here or sign elsewhere. The players here are treated well, they have top notch facilities,& they play in the largest media market in the world. If that's not enough motivation to give the team your all...go elsewhere.

2.Re-branding- It's time for a uniform/logo change in the spirit of new beginnings. Obviously keep the green & white & the overall premise...but a change of uniform has a pretty good track record of turning teams around & even if winning doesn't quickly follow..it at least implements true change.I have as many fond memories of the current uni's as well as the 80's/90's look..but they largely represent a failed product. Let go of the nostalgia & embrace change. .

3.Plans for a new stadium of their own- This is an absolute must. Even if the ECD is sometime around 2030..if it means leaving the NY/NJ metro...so be it. The team & fans need to feel like it's their home for better or worse on gameday.Having the Giants to compete with in your own market w. a finicky attention seeking owner has been a disaster. The media offers no breaks & have frankly become volatile while other markets support their team..it seems almost counterproductive. I'm not saying pack the mayflower & ditch to Santa Fe..but at least have the option for relocation on the table for leverage when trying to find a spot in the treacherous NY real estate market. If the political whirlwind is too much ...unfortunately it maybe time to find a new city. If the Dodgers & Giants can do it...why not the Jets? Something drastic needs to change...simply has to.

That still does not make Mike look sharp just because other K/heads beside Mike hold GM positions. Let me remind U that Mike job is to find the Daks of the world & is paid millions to do so

We suck at tanking. The one chance we had to do that, we went out and won 2 completely meaningless games. Its what we do..

The problem is that we suck at everything. It's pretty sad and pathetic when you can't even tank properly.

There's no tanking it. I keep seeing people bring up the Colts Suck For Luck campaign.

They had a QB that was a lock for HOF and masked most of the deficiencies of that team, then still had to trade good players away, IR'd other players and started garbage at most positions.

They basically ruined their own team for a draft pick and haven't recovered from it since.

The Colts are a lesson to every team that wants to fail for the first overall pick.

You're responding to a guy that has defended players like Vernon Gholston and Vladimir Ducasse until the day they were released.

He's working with what he's got.

It's not. Kurt is just using losing as an excuse to get new uni's.

We've drafted 4 offensive players in the first round since 2001. 3 since 2006 and that includes two in the first round in 06.

  20. This is bigger than the wrong playcall.Far greater than just the wrong players, wrong coach or wrong GM. This team repeatedly falls into the same mishaps in all facets including off the field year after year....seemingly decade after decade! The names change but the results largely stay in tact. At some point we need to look at things from a wider scope than just the black & white game of football. This is a systemic problem.

At some point you need to look at these other factors that I listed. Maybe these aren't high priority items on a yearly basis...but the jets have pretty much changed everything else...with little success. Sweeping changes are in the details.

By the way....I have a hard time understanding how a football team's culture is not imminently laced to winning & losing. But since so many were opposed to my thoughts..I'd really love for one of you to enlighten me on this notion? How does culture not matter? You don't think the franchise would benefit from a stadium of their own;Including ON the field? You don't think the Buccaneers thank Tony Dungy every night for insisting they change logos?Hell Satan Bellichick insisted upon changing uniforms even though Parcells had already made drastic changes to the Patty cake uni's just a few year's prior.
