Andrew Luck had worse numbers than Fitz did a week ago I think it was. So how'd that suck for Luck work out? I've seen better games from names like Kirk Cousins too. However he's proven to be a capable enough starter. You are better off lucking into a draft but you're right, more picks, more chance of luck. Still if neither of these guys are capable or ready what the heck do you do? The QB market is pretty dry. Bring Johnny Manziel in? Fitz is arguably better than those likely to become available. It's why he ended up here in the first place. The other problem is any serviceable backups will likely be retained as well by teams that can afford them as a result. Your other scenario is they need Fitz to come back as a result and he refuses or holds out and waits for some other team to have that all too likely injury. The then you enter next season with two unready, possibly no good QBs. I guess at which point you just take the season and take the picks if they suck. This does mostly fall back on the front office. A lot of this also falls on Fitz, he is basically the ultimate journeyman, capable of learning offensive schemes quickly. The problem is he's slightly better than a high level backup so if he gets tossed into a game he sometimes plays like wildfire which casts the suspicion that "hey this guy's better than our starter". Of course this usually happens because he ends up on marginal teams and he usually comes in and throws like 3-4 TDs. Of course the Jets shouldn't have resigned him to begin with under his terms, he's always a stopgap measure. Then of course if he walks after this season he'll end up somewhere doing the same stuff again and all the Jets fans will wonder why they got rid of him. I often wonder why the hell they brought him in to begin with. This happens everywhere he goes.
The good - young WRs gaining valuable experience. The bad - DB and LBs The good - DT Williams The bad - uninspired play of leaders and stars Key here is not look at the record but make progress for the future. That said I say still say go with Petty or Hack put them through the fire. At least build them up for solid back up next year. Use the young OL. Coaching Staff not my biggest concern right now. They come back, they come back. They get replaced so be it. My big concern is where Mac is going with this during the off season and draft picks. He thus far is batting .250 with the FA and Draft picks, room for improvement.
Tough to root for it week in and week out, but we're going to need a high pick to have a chance at Trubisky if he declares. I'd say he's likely to be the first quarterback taken. Looking at times that will be worse or in similar draft position as us, it's unlikely we'll get him. Browns - do they roll with Kessler moving forward and take the BPA in Garrett? Jaguars - stay with Bortles. 49ers - Watson seems like the perfect fit for what Chip Kelly wants. Chicago - likely the biggest threat we'll need to worry about in getting Trubisky.
Knowing the Browns new analytics team, they'll probably look to roll with Kessler and accumulate picks. With over $110M in cap space, they could be a trading partner for Richardson. If we had a top 5 pick, we could probably trade up with them.
It'd be awesome if we can scam them into taking Richardson and our first to move into the first spot without giving up many other picks. At this point we need to roll the dice and go get our guy. As you said, young quarterbacks giving bottom feeding franchises hope. The Titans are 5-5 and just beat the Packers and the Buccs are 4-5 and only a game back of the division and wild card. It's amazing what a top drafted quarterback can do, not only for the production on the field, but the psyche of the franchise and all the players out there. They want to play for a young leader that can rally. I'm thinking the Browns fans might go absolutely nuts if they don't take a top quarterback in back to back drafts. I wonder if the front office and ownership really cares though, because ours is scared as hell of the fans. I think the Bears are the team we're really competing with for one of these guys. Hopefully they get some wins down the stretch.
I also wouldn't hate it if we spent a top 10 pick on Fournette or Dalvin Cook. Give Hack all the weapons to succeed. Enunwa, Anderson, Marshall, Peake, Smith, young running back. If it works, you've got an explosive offense for years. Let's build this team the other way for once.
No guarantee Trubisky will even be the guy on draft day let alone in the NFL. As of a month ago, wasn't DeShaun Watson supposed to be the savior?
Of course it sucks moving forward too, that the year we could really use a rebuilt offensive line, is a very weak draft for offensive tackles. Cam Robinson is a man amongst boys, but the coaching staff better do it's research in the interview process to evaluate if his off the field problems are going to follow him into the NFL. Roderick Johnson looks like a good one too and McGlinchey from ND but a lot of these guys have gotten second or lower round grades from places I've looked. I really wish we pulled the trigger on the trade to move up and get Tunsil. At this point I'd rather a young future left tackle than Lee, Hack and Burris even though the jury is somewhat out on them still. 2017 might be another dumpster fire of a year for the Jets if we're still rolling out Ijalana and Giacomini or Qvale at tackle. I fully expect a ton of vets to be cut from this team so we can really rebuild. Because this franchise needs it, badly.
There's no denying that the 2017 season has begun. Time to evaulate wisely and drop this bullshit BPA no matter what and draft for need. Why, because there's not a more needy team right now in the AFCE than the New York Nyets.
I'd build from the outside in. Right side first as all of our Qb's are right handed. RT then RG. I would draft D last.
Almost agree. Left side is the side you get killed on. Start there. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Ugh, who are we kidding? It's so obvious Romo will be our quarterback next year. You can see this developing from a mile away.
Yes. The defense has enough young talent that they can 'hold the fort' so to speak while we build up the offense. We've done nothing but build the defense in the draft for the better part of a decade. Let's try to change the strategy here. It's worked for Dallas. Their offense helps out their defense immensely with ball control and such. That defense is nothing special but they have a couple of good pass rushers, a sideline to sideline linebacker and most importantly they're always fresh when they're on the field. It's so underrated how much of a game changer it is having a rested defense. Then you can run a two high safety bend but don't break type of scheme like New England has always run, and you force teams to beat themselves. L. Williams/Wilk/Lee/Mauldin/Jenkins/Pryor is enough of a young base to allow us to go offense offense offense already here.
I'm not advocating bringing him back I'm just giving a scenario in which I could see it happening. The organization really didn't come up with any viable backup plan if Hack and Petty aren't ready and there are likely to be limited options again next year unless you draft someone and get lucky. I'm not saying one or the over might not eventually be able to do it but after I saw Petty today he seemed on the level of like EJ Manuel in Buffalo decent arm strength but not quick enough on the decision, who knows if he can do that. Realistically you need some sort of veteran QB next year but who the heck do you get? If Dallas gets rid of Romo he's not going to be cheap, plus he's injury prone. This organization has poor planning, would you expect anything less out of them than to do more stupid stuff?
I just wonder if they'll have cap space for it and how much it would cost. It's also still another temporary stop gap solution.
