Yes, but there has to be something behind the scenes between Bowles and Gailey that has them deciding that Petty should not be on the field. Assuming of course that Bowles is relying on input from the other coaches? If he is, he's taking a big risk by doing this and not going with his gut instincts. Bill Parcels, imo, would not put himself in this predicament and would rather commit to making his own decision . That's one of the qualities of a good coach that separates them from the pack of mediocre ones. I sense that Bowles is not confident enough in making his own judgement.
I hope they fire that idiot toilet bowl at the end of the year--he will still be looking for a job next year proclaiming how good that rag arm 33 year old interception machine is. Fitzpatrick clearly has naked pictures of Bowles--only way someone could keep their job throwing this many red zone picks.
This guy has 9----0000 lives how in the hell does he do it ... every time we think we might move on from him he hops right back in ... he's like an X that just never goes away ... he is the Jets version of herpes I mean hot damn what does it take ... with the amount of head first dives hard hits, helmet pieces flying all over the field we think its Petty time but nooooooooooo here comes this POS right back in to guess what throw an INT what do we do !?!?! I just can't take his mediocre play anymore ... for the love of GOD
its the other way around. the oc is involved but its the head coaches decision petty just recently started practicing again so i doubt hes made much of a impression in practice (positive or negative) ... fitzpatricks physical limitations severely handcuff gaileys playcalling. if it were up to chan, im willing to bet that he would start petty bowels is the one that strikes me as stubborn to a fault
I'm gonna get buried for this but I'm gonna say it anyways. I would never root for a Jet defeat or for that matter, a Jet player to be knocked out of a game. If for the long term benefit of the team the Jets lose on Sunday, I'm ok with that since it would finally be a slap upside Bowles' head and drive home the fact that the 2017 season has already begun. If by some chance one of FitzShitz' headlong dives gets him sent to bizarro world, I'm good with that too as it finally forces the CS to play the kid. The wildcard in this is that even if Petty gets in, will Gailey allow the kid to play or will the OC call a cowardly conservative game consisting of 2 runs, 1 5yd pass and a punt for the entire game. I'm sure if that does happen, we'll hear the "Petty ain't ready" bullshit line and they'll prop up ShitzTragik until the season is over. We may have gotten a preview of Gailey's "Petty Plan" last week. F'n pathetic it was too. I get the distinct impression that this FO/CS is no better at developing Qb's than the last several leadership teams were. #QbBlind or #QbStupid... Take your pick.
Wow. Decker called starting Petty "throwing in the towel". He can't look THIS bad in practice, can he?
You can't be that much of a Petty hater can you? If that's what you got out of that tweet, then you're not much better than the folks who were pimping Geno. That tweet clearly stated Decker wasn't ready to say 2016 is over and its time to look ahead. He also stated that the vets in the clubhouse probably feel the same about 2016. They're all under the delusion that they can run the table and become revelant again. Nothing can be further from the truth but, they can't say it and neither can Bowles. Let me help you: " You can't just throw the towel in and say, 'OK, all right, let's get ready for next year.' As a competitor, that's not how you think, that's not how you operate." Nowhere in that tweet did anyone say Petty sucks. Only you took that away from that tweet. So, are you a Hackenberg fan or a FitzTragic fan? #biased
I'm not a Petty hater. I'm reading between the lines of everything the coaches and players are saying and doing. They have the worst quarterback in the NFL and there's no sort of movement to get the other guy in the lineup. The fact that he thinks playing Petty is "getting ready for next year" says a lot about how he thinks he'll play.
yea, i don't know C, decker just equated starting petty with giving up on the season. at best decker thinks petty is not as good as what we have seen from fitz so far.
No one in their right mind is expecting Petty to come in and run the table. If Petty does start, it absolutely means that the 2017 season has begun for this team and 2016 is over. That does not mean Petty sucks. It means that the CS has thrown in the towel on 2016 and as competitors, they don't ever think its over. They would say the same thing if Petty came in and this team was 3-10.
I do think there's alot more going on with Petty besides how well he's playing in practice. I've said many times Mac has more invested in his #2 pick than his #4. Gailey has more invested in staying with Fitz than starting over with Petty. Bowles has more invested in trying to keep his guys motivated by pretending that this team is still in contention or can somehow run the table on the teams left on the schedule. Woody even has some skin in this as he doesn't want to see vast swaths of empty seats in MetLife between now and New Years Day. I'm sure there are guys who are already done mentally for this season. Bowles needs to win and can't have guys playing out the string. All this does is hinder the development of the young players (including Hackenberg). You can't really tell what you have unless you see it in a real game. Either the QBOTF is on the roster or he isn't but the Jets really have no way of knowing since they're scared shitless of making the tough call on 2016 even though the team is 3-6 and spinning its wheels on the way to palookaville. This is why the New York Jets will NEVER have a Franchise Qb in my lifetime. They don't have a f'n clue how to develop one.
That's what happens when your GM fell in love with a guy. Mac saw Petty back in Texas in HS or some such and fell in love with the kid. He had ONE good year at Penn St. and then proceeded to suck once Obrien left. Petty otoh, set records at Baylor but we really don't want college Qb's that set records. That why we chose the one that sucked in the 2nd when we could have drafted him in the 4th. #QbStupid
They will both be looked at and we will find out what we knew in the beginning that the Jets do not have a qb.
