I haven't seen a thread dedicated to him in particular. If he's there when we pick (assuming we're in the top 7), is this the player we'd need to jumpstart the offense? We need offensive line help obviously, but we also need an offensive identity. He fills the need of both a dynamic runner and a playmaking receiver out of the backfield that can line up in the slot. I'm never, ever a fan of taking a runningback in the draft and never in the top 5. But he's more than just a runningback. He's a do everything type of guy. The only concern I have would be having the durability to put an NFL offense on his back. Leonard Fournette is obviously a special player and may have silenced any critics whom related his situation to Jadevon Clowney and perhaps being complacent. He just put on a hell of a performance, and looks to be an Adrian Peterson type of talent that you can feature an entire offense around. Do we take either of these guys if we're not sold on any of these so-so quarterbacks or do we go with the top offensive tackle prospect in Cam Robinson (despite the character concerns)? What do you guys think?
Fournette and it's not even close. Joe Mixon is pretty good too though, I feel bad for McCaffrey. He's getting no love really as of late. Might be a late first rounder.
As much as Zeke Elliot has improved Dallas as a team i don't think its smart to invest a 1st round pick at RB, not unless u have that Dallas O-line to go with it and we do not have that currently. Id rather go T if we pick high and hopefully theres one sitting for us in the top 10. Either that or Myles Garrett. Saying that they probably both deserve to go in the first Fournette in the top 10 like Zeke and Gurley and McCaffery will go somewhere in the bottom of the first. This year especially we need to go Rb late cause theres plenty of guys who deserve to go but won't because of demand being low.
Ugh we better not go tackle unless Clady gets hurt again. He is by far better than anyone we could draft and still has a few years left..of course we probably can't afford to resign him..thanks Mac.
The reality scenario is the Jets draft Fournette early, and he turns into a gigantic bust. The Pats, who love white offensive players, take McCaffrey in the third and he beasts for 4 years, then leaves for another AFC team for huge money (probably the Dolphins) and is never heard from again.
Good old Don. The Jets should do nothing in the first round but dig for offensive line talent for the next 3 years, no matter who the coach or GM is. Then you find the QB, if the ones they have already aren't the answer. Build the foundation of the house strong before you decide what kind of stove you're putting in the kitchen.
There is no tackle worth taking in the top 15, much less the top 10. Cam Robinson is the best something by default and he has -severe- off the field issues. I really wish there was; the Jets absolutely need youth invested at OL. Myles Garret is going to be gone in the first 3 picks unless he literally murders someone between now and then. He has a strong chance to be #1 overall. If we're picking 5th/6th, Fournette is probably the best offensive player on the board. I'm assuming Watson and Garret are gone. Kizer and one of the top DBs are probably gone as well. So we're likely looking at Fournette or one of this year's many talented DBs with our first round pick given our current draft position. I think the best draft for positional value is Fournette in the first and either a DB or OL in the second, unless we happen to acquire more picks via a trade. DB/OL should be a strait BPA move - there will likely be some solid interior linemen available around the top of the second, but a starting corner might be worth more to us given the atrocious state of our secondary this year.
I like Fournette - pick your poison DB - Forrest Lamp for our first three picks. Lamp is steady and underrated IMO, he'll find a place in this league somewhere on someone's o-line.
I think I would take Dalvin Cook over Fournette. LF is a beast, but I think Cook fits today's NFL better.
What kind of stove do you think Stokes would choose? I agree though. I don't know all too much about the offensive line talent this year though. Everything I've seen is that Cam Robinson is an elite talent. Knowing our luck, his off the field problems will follow him to the NFL unlike Tunsil and he'll be suspended off and on again. If there's an elite tackle there, maybe we can throw it back to 06' and get another Mangold/Brick combination with our first two picks that set us up to have a good running game and offensive line for the better part of a decade. Hopefully Maccagnan ignores his own bullshit in not wanting to take offensive lineman high. Because this offense desperately needs impact talents there as there's enough of a youth/veteran combination at the skill positions that isn't tightend to where we can hold off replenishing that pool for another year or so.
I think Mac doesn't want to take interior offensive lineman high, but would feel otherwise about a franchise LT prospect. Mac tried to trade up to grab Tunsil during his fall in last year's draft, but the asking price for us to move up was more than he was willing to part with. (We offered our 1st and 2nd to NYG to move up to 10, they wanted our 4th as well, per Cimini. I do wish we'd gone for it in hindsight, but that's mainly because we took Hackenburg in the 2nd, and you never really want to give away picks on a reloading team with so many holes, and I still have hopes for Lee and Burris.) Every scouting report I've seen has said this is an extremely weak OT class; I just don't see the value being there in the first round, especially with Cam Robinson's off the field flags. I really doubt we go OL in the first without a trade-down; more likely we aim for OL in either the second or third round. Fournette in the first combined with a big mauler at guard who could move to center in the second or third combined would make those single-back spread sets really nasty. Also have my eye on Pat Eflein as a possible replacement for Mangold, but I've heard conflicting things about where he's likely to fall in the draft order.
Well he better start saving some money to sign a good FA center. I don't know if Mangold is going to stick around another year. There are no legitimate centers in this year's draft, we are stuck with Wesley Johnson, an improving Winters and Ijalana or Qvale. 3/5 of the line can't run block, grabbing a guy like Fournette does not help this team on the offensive side of the ball. BPA will be a LB or DB. We don't even know if this CS is going be around next year, woody might not stand pat if the jets end up with 4/5 wins.
The only center in free agency worth a damn is J.C. Tretter and I doubt Green Bay let's him walk. There's also not many tackles out there. It's pretty much a disastrous offseason to need to rebuild the offensive line for us.
Dalvin Cook over everyone. Get a decent T and CB in the FA. Grab a back up guard. 1. Cook 2. RT 3. CB Johnson is fine at C if Mangold can't go. Clady can hold it down for 1 more year. Hopefully one of our QBs shows something. Then we can focus on LT, WR, C in 2018.
Even thought I don't think he will be there when we pick, I would definately not pick Fournette at anywhere near the 5th pick. He's already had injuries this year - not a good sign for a RB before he gets to the NFL - and against a good defence such as Alabama's he has been totally bottled up, 31 & 34 yards. In my opinion,we have a lot more need at other positions than RB.
I rescind my thoughts in this thread. I've never been in favor of taking runningbacks high and most of the success around the league backs that up. Only Zeke and Melvin Gordon of the top 20 rushers in the league heading into today were first round picks. We need to beef this offensive line up badly, and hell they can sign me to run through the gaping holes.
I've been pretty impressive by Wesley Johnson thus far. It'd be amazing if he keeps up his solid play and we can focus on upgrading the tackles, because Breno is nearly as bad as Wayne Hunter against speed rushers and Clady is average at this point in his career
