Took ESPN eight games to figure this out? No wonder they have problems ... http://www.espn.com/blog/new-york-j...-declining-before-our-eyes-and-its-not-pretty I find it interesting that Revis himself suggested moving to FS back in August, but Maccagnan shot it down. That right there would seem to indicate where part of the real problem lies. I mean seriously, think about that. Did Mac shoot the idea down because his signature move to date - signing a lock-down corner for $16M - can no longer play corner? And now TB is just too much of a stand-up guy to dump it back in his lap?
I know I'm gonna get torn a new asshole for this, but c'mon, the guy deserves a little more respect than this. Yea, he's obviously not the Revis we are used to any more, but he WAS the best corner in the league for quite a while, and most of those years were spent here. I think we owe the guy a bit more respect on the down side. Bowles isn't doing a fucking thing to help the guy out either.
You're not completely off base, but the reality on the field is that respect for things that occurred years ago does not defend passes this year. The offenses he's playing against are showing him none, and it's pretty obvious why. In fact, they're beating on him like the proverbial red-headed step-child, and with no mercy. And it will continue as long as he's out there.
He is ranked in the bottom 10 in the league among CBs, maybe even last..he deserves nothing more than to give the Jets a refund.
He was already paid for what he WAS. A corner who needs help doesn't get paid $17M. Fuck him! how's that for respect?
What he did years ago isn't helping the team this year when he's out on the field slacking off. The guy doesn't even want to play.
He'll have to take a pay cut to stay here. I don't see any team even giving him 10M a year after how poorly he has been playing. I'd like to see Revis at safety. See what he can do.
Why would you move him to FS... he has lost a step maybe two and wouldn't be able to cover. I say cut him at the end of the year, save some cap space and look for a replacement and PLEASE give him help going forward....
If you were getting paid top CB money and know you can't play CB any longer you'd offer to play FS too so your "legacy" is still intact. With each passing game his legacy takes a hit in the eyes of us fans, other players, sports writers etc. meanwhile he happily cashes those outrageous checks.
what? rhodes was the opposite. good against the pass but weak against the run and considered a "soft" player. Pryor is a hard hitting enforcer, he just can't cover for his life.
When it's all said and done, I don't think Revis will have a better career then Champ Bailey. Bailey while he avoided injuries, it took him like 14 yrs to even show regression. Revis was showing it after like 9 seasons. Revis at best, the 3rd best CB of all time.
Wow. Somebody called Revis the worst in the league? Really? After dealing with players like Dee Milliner and Kyle Wilson on the roster? Ok, I know he's declined but you don't bench the guy, you give him safety help. It looks like the Jets did that in the 2nd half of the Browns game and it worked out for the most part. I could be wrong, but it seems like Revis has been banged up. I have doubts that he has been 100% since his wrist injury last year. I agree. It's amazing how quickly this fan base turns on its players. People have no respect whatsoever.
Honestly, he's sort of tried to actually tackle people more than a few times this season; the writing is on the wall at this point. The problem is he's gotten this far without tackling and he simply can't do it very well. At times he doesn't even try, probably because he knows he's gonna get trucked. Beyond anything else he's about covering the Revis legacy, hence the 10yrd cushion on WR. Better to suffer a death of a thousand cuts than a clean beheading.
