As a conservative, you should know that when government demands you have something and says they'll provide it, it takes forever to get it.
I never had a problem getting a new driver license. It takes about a month to get a new passport too. If they don't have a birth certificate, well.. maybe they should have done something about it in 4 freaking years.
I wonder if they require an original copy of the birth certificate as well. My friend moved back to Tennessee recently, and when she tried to get a new drivers license, they wouldn't accept a notarized copy of the certificate. Some of what happens in USA has made me realise why so many Americans are distrustful of government compared to other countries.

NY doesn't have strict voter ID laws, but I still need to register properly to vote. Anyway, if there were real cases of voter fraud, I'd be inclined to agree with you. But AFAIK there's only been one case of voter fraud this election, and it was a Trump supporter.

That law has been in place for over a year and a half and truly around for 5 years while it went through challenges. Anyone they couldn't get their ID in that time frame it is on them, they even offer them free without any documentation. Getting a free ID for Voting is easy even if you do not have the documentation to get a regular Wisconsin ID! Go to the DMV to apply Bring the following, if available: Proof of Name and Date of Birth (such as Birth Certificate) Proof of Identity (Social Security Card, Medicaid/Medicare Card, etc.) Wisconsin Residency (Utility bill, government mail, lease, etc.) Proof of U.S. Citizenship (U.S. Birth certificate or citizenship paperwork) Social Security Number If you don't have all or any of these, you can still get an ID for voting. Just bring what you have to the DMV, fill out 2 forms, and you will get a photo ID document in the mail that you can use in time for voting. Here is a sample of the document you'll be receiving.
We can't require ID to vote because previous generations used it to suppress voters. Sorry but it has been ruined time and time again by people looking to take advantage of it and would probably continue in the future because we are terrible people. Seems like a weird thing to worry about anyway.
