They should learn and earn their spot, but they need reps in practice to improve. I just wish Fitz never came back and they found a way to give more reps to Petty / Hack. To me, I feel as though they wasted 2 yrs on Petty. There's only so much they can do when they are sitting on the sidelines watching or just throwing on the sideline along with the game film. Next off-season, they are going to rebuild Hack's mechanics. If he doesn't get the necessary reps, it's going to be a complete waste of time. They hate Geno, and the OC clearly wasn't confident in Fitz. Jets wasted their time, but I hope your view is the right one.
if they wasted 2 years on Petty that's Petty's fault. He was here for camp, OTAs both years and now he's getting the backup spot and 1st team reps in practice that comes with it. And a shot at the starting job in the offseason is up for grabs...That's not the Jets mismanaging him whatsoever. The opportunity is right there for him. The Jets have wrote the book on mismanaging young QBs but here we are and they are doing it right and people are complaining. I don't get it. I don't care if the future is Pettys, Hackenbergs, or some other young QB but at least they aren't shooting themselves in the foot for once and I like it.
Behind that O-Line he has time to spot John Candy in the stands. They have the tools to blood a QB, we don't.
I like the fact that they haven't rushed them onto the field and are doing it "right" from that perspective. My only hesitation and concern is if Mac is pushing Hack ahead of Petty solely because Mac "fell in love with him" or because Hack was taken in the 2nd round vs 4th round for Petty. As long as the decisions are being made by their knowledge and how they play, I have no qualms whatsoever. It's just the hint of the possibility of "politics" that concerns me.
I just believe if you have a young QB and you believe that QB can be a starter, every decision you make in terms of roster, you need to consider the young QB [will he thrive or fail?], and I think the Jets have failed in that department since day 1. Nothing good comes out of a young QB sitting on a bench getting no reps.
The line absolutely helps and I agree in terms of having the tools, but he also received every rep in training camp / OTAs. That accelerated his learning. Hack and Petty got less then a fraction of the total reps because of Fitz and Geno. Jets could've done more.
That would be a pretty good trick considering that John Candy has been dead for several years. He'd probably look more like The Walking Dead and be unrecognizable. LOL

Totally disagree. NC jets fan's posts are some of the most original and best on this message board along with Red Menace, Defense wins championships, 94 Abraham, and TN jet. I really think it is unprofessional for us to be negative toward each other anyway--I think reasonable minds can differ on the jets' approach without engaging in personal attacks.
