Sorry, I misunderstood your intent or question. I agree with the reasons why a team should trade for him and the potential downsides.
I voted no one will be traded because I think teams will be generally shy and not be willing to throw crazy trade value towards acquiring any of the Jets players. Personally, I would absolutely love if Mo Wilkerson and Brandon Marshall are traded. The way I see it, Sheldon Richardon will probably garner more value but I think he is the better player. His off the field risks are why the Jets paid Wilkerson IMO. Marshall is an aging vet who has a pretty big cap hit. He continues to decline, and drop passes on a game to game basis. Trade him for a 3rd round pick to a contender and rock with Enunwa, Decker, Anderson, Peake, and Devin Smith (not too fond of Jalin Marshall). Realistically, I feel as if Macc will probably not pull the trigger to sell off some assets because we are mathematically not out of contention but we all know we are not going anywhere with the shitty secondary play and the horrific QB play.
Marshall has been traded for a 3rd to fins 4th to bears and 5th to jets. I don't think hos value has jumped back up to a 3rd thos late in his career. Not that i would trade him anyway. We need good wrs if we are going to let the kid qbs play.
@FJF You're probably right... even if we got rid of him for a 4th or 5th the cap savings given how well the younger wr's have played, and the fact that decker is younger and enunwa is quickly emerging as a legitimate wide receiver is something jets management has to consider. The other side to this is also Marshall's involvement in the Fitz hype train, and his unwavering support for a QB that has failed miserably. It's all nice and stuff but this is football and you play and support the people who are helping achieve wins, which Fitz has not done. Management has to regain control of the team and make decisions based on personnel and cap rather than the relationships of high profile players.
Trading Sheldon for anything less than a 1st round pick is exactly why it is stupid to go BPA no matter what. Getting rid of an elite DE because you drafted two other elite DE's seemingly makes no sense. You're getting less than what you spent to create a log jam and to fix the problem you get lesser value back. Not saying we shouldn't trade him it's just poor management to have 3 3-4 DE's and letting Wilkerson walk would've been equally as dumb regarding ROI.
I don't think anybody will get traded but I do think we should trade Richardson if somebody offers a first. I just don't see anybody offering a first after he has been suspended to start the season the past two eyars.
If you can get a first round pick you move Richardson. The biggest candidate I see here is the Cowboys. They've got their QB and RB of the future as well as monstrous offensive line and a surprisingly decent secondary. A dominant player like Sheldon would do a lot for their front, and I can see Jerry Jones being willing to trade one of the last picks in the first round for a very strong chance at a Super Bowl run. And if any team can handle "character risks" it's the 'boys. While I'd love to see McCaggnan rob someone blind, I actually feel this is one of those "both teams benefit" moves. A possible alternative: Trade him for La'El Collins and a 5th-rounder. Cowboys don't surrender their #1 pick, and trade a talented but injured lineman (who has one more year after this on his deal) who can't help them for their title run, Jets get a mid-round depth pick and suddenly have a (assuming a good recovery) stud young OL. (and everyone on the draft boards has been screaming for young OL help for a while - here it comes!) I can also see the Raiders and Chiefs being interested in Richardson, but I don't think they'll be willing to offer the right compensation. Some people have mentioned the Colts but I don't think Richardson puts them as clearly "over the top" as the Cowboys trade. No idea what compensation we'd get for Marshall though, so I don't think we deal him. He wants to go into broadcasting / stay in NY, he's the best player at his position on the team, he's older so we won't get as good of compensation, etc. Simply put his value to the team versus what we'll get for him in exchange makes it much harder to justify.
You do because teams who trade for a player will give no value in a situation with minimal time to negotiate. Tagging is also a horriable idea. Who the hell wants to pay that kind of money across a dline that hasn't gotten proper pressure for multiple seasons. The jets again will need to the ability to spend come free agency.....
You said he was going to walk after this year. What you are talking about now is completely different.
I don't like Sheldon as a person. Seems like a selfish jerk who does what he wants. Doesn't care about the rules, laws or other people. And on top of that, is only playing for his next contract. No one talks about money more than him. I guess that is probably how most players are in 2016, but he is just more vocal about it. With all his off field stuff, he shouldn't be though.
I too think that he is really about the money because I've heard him refer to his next contract and getting a huge payday quite a few times. The thing that would concern me is a drop off in play if he got paid. Regardless, the risk with him is also his off the field issues. To me he is the better player, but not to the safe option.
If you're out of contention (and the browns are the definition of that) you don't buy unless it's extreme value. This is extreme value. BB wasn't sending Collins to anyone who was going to worry him in the title picture anytime soon. I've got a friend who's a Pats fan who was explaining that Collins apparently wanted Von Miller level money.
i realize the money thing, but unfortunately, the market has been set for a star defensive player in the last year of their contract. We'd be lucky at this point to get a 2nd
A Browns 3rd is a nice get, seeing how they'll likely finish with the worst record this season. I'd love to get a 2nd rd pick from a team that's picking near the top.
Arizona, - on the brink of being outside for the playoffs, - just lost their LT Jared Veldheer for the season. Trade Breno Giacomini for a 5th rounder!!!!!!
Realistically nobody will get traded, especially when they could still salvage the season. That's the kind of thing you do if you are the Browns. If I had a choice, I'd pick Sheldon, but I don't think they are ready to mail it in just yet.
