I'm not making myself clear... I'm not complaining that these QBs are getting raw deals for themselves I'm upset that as a franchise the Jets keep doing it and we are having to watch Fitzpatrick because of the incompetence As for Petty...I understand that hes not owed anything but if Hack jumped him it's because of the injury and possibly political reasons....it sure as hell would not be for preseason performance and I doubt if both are healthy that Hack is just destroying him in practice As a Jets fan I just want to see what Petty has got because so far there have been some good signs that he could be ok I'm not worried about poor Bryce getting screwed, I'm just worried that as a franchise we're going to screw up another promising qb and for what?
This is the same "braintrust" that thought bringing back Fitzpatrick was a smart move after one of the most embarrassing holdouts in the history of the league This is the same franchise that has QB issues forever Excuse me if I have my doubts about their ability to judge QBs...especially when one was injured If Hack is improving a ton then that's great but there's zero reason for us not to see Petty out there for a few games....just a disservice to the franchise not to see what you got
I'm sure that Hack hasn't been sitting on his thumbs. Bowles and Gailey have said that they are not going to mess with Hack's fundamentals until the offseason. Unless or until those fundamentals are corrected, he will never come anywhere near a 60% completion percentage. Even his freshman year when he played so well under OBrien, his completion percentage was south of 60%. Petty didn't practice for 6 weeks. How was he supposed to show anything in practice. Prior to his injury, he was running the scout team and not even running the Jets offense. During his injury, Hack was running the scout team and not the Jets' offense. He hasn't made some miraculous improvement to by-pass Petty. I don't believe that he has come anywhere near closing the gap. He was already better than Petty reading Ds because he had more experience in a pro-style offense. Most likely, that's the only area in which he is ahead of Petty, and that isn't going to help him if he can't hit an open receiver. I tell ya what asshat. I know I'm a hell of a lot smarter than you!!!!
I like your spin, and it makes some logical sense. If that's what they're doing, then I could get on board with that, but imo Bowles and Gailey haven't even remotely shown that level of intelligence, and we know that Woody doesn't possess much, if any, intelligence.
They've been watching hack take reps while Petty was injured. It's possible he's shown a lot of improvement. It's also possible Petty's shoulder is hamburger.
If you're so doubtful of their judgment on QB's then why do you think it's necessary to play a guy they picked in the 4th round?
Actually he's right. Met Life is dropping the Peanuts gang from their advertising and re-branding. Poor Rex would have been heart broken.
Well, I was hedging "my" bets, but hopefully you'll still be on the train with us. Might want to take a few years off from watching the Jets while we get there tho; watching these bastards will surely do at least a few of us in before the trip is over.
What other choice do we have as Jets fans? This season is a wash unless we go on some miracle streak I don't understand why people would be against watching Petty play a few games this season which is all my main point really is You guys arguing that he deserves nothing are technically correct but not playing him is not a smart move What's the alternative?
Either Petty or Hackenberg should play out the rest of the season, whichever one the coaching staff feels is the better option both for now and long term. People are acting like it would be a crime against decency if the Jets flipped the depth chart, as if Petty is owed something. That's all I'm saying.
If Hack ended up playing well in that scenario then fine But it's just annoying that the general consensus was that Petty has atleast improved a bunch and played well this preseason...then got hurt The front office has taken heat for the Hackenberg pick as well So it might rub some of us the wrong way if Petty never gets a shot because of injury and "other" reasons Again like I said if Hack really has improved that much and ends up looks good then I'll understand but I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt until then, because frankly they don't deserve it
Maybe the big secret is Bilal Powell is the backup, and we're going to run the wildcat in the redzone.
I thought that all season long it was only Fitz and Geno getting the bulk of the practice reps. Maybe Bowles just wants to watch the young guys practice this week before making a decision?
I agree that Bowles probably knows the entire fanbase and media are done with Fitz and he just needs to keep winning games. What I dislike about Bowles's silence is that the backups are 1 play away from an injury to Fitz. It sounds like we're screwed if that happens because Bowles is so afraid to feed into the QB controversy that he doesn't (at least openly) commit to a backup QB. Yes, fans want to know about the backups because we think Fitz is done, but asking who the backup is also a legit question as it pertains the strategy of the football game. I do not like this at all.
The fanbase wants to know the over/under on how many limbs must be disabled on Fitzpatrick before he is replaced by the mystery quarterback-in-waiting.
