Been saying this for over a month now... Mac has more invested in Hackenberg than he does in Petty. God forbid his 2nd round gamble doesn't pay off...

It could also be that they took Hack a year after Petty and 2 rounds earlier because they think he's a better player

If they based that on his performance at Penn State, they are truly Qb blind.. If they based this indecision on the preseason, they're Qb stupid. If this is how its gonna be in JetLand, I hope Petty gets traded. No real reason to waste his time here in yet another rigged Qb competition.

I'm not sure we're wasting his time as much as we're giving him the best chance he's ever gonna get. It doesn't seem like the league has a very high opinion of him, and neither does his own team given that they drafted his replacement and have him locked in a backup battle with a guy they wanted to redshirt.

Given the astute Qb evaluations of this Organization since the days of Namath, to say they are Qb blind is an massive understatement. This is the organization that "couldn't get enough Tebow". This is the Regime that paid $12mil to a journeyman Qb that's never been to the post season and has an arm that couldn't throw a football past 30yds. Its no secret that when the Jets tried to move Geno during the offseason, teams wanted Petty instead. Too bad for Petty that Mac didn't trade the kid.

The New York Jets are the franchise where Qb's go to die...

I don't think it's fair to throw the Jets past QB failures on Mac. I do, however, think it's fair to look at his QB failures as a director of college scouting. That's far more alarming to me.

Regardless of whether they were ever going to be good or not...Sanchez got a raw deal, Geno got a raw deal, and it seems like they're pulling some BS on Petty too now

What is wrong with this franchise?

So Jets to get scammed by Fitzpatrick and then continue to play him after the recent comments as well

Just a clown car heading off the cliff when it comes to QBs in all aspects...and it never ends

Why are the Jets obligated to give Petty a chance to start? He was a 4th round pick. Do you think that every single QB that enters the league is entitled a chance to start to prove himself?

good for hack, he was able to use the time petty missed to close what looked like a pretty big gap between him and petty over the summer.
    very encouraging

Much like the start of the 2016 season when he could not make up his mind or announce starting RT until the last minute--Bowles either seems scared to make a decision, which should almost disqualify him as a head coach, or he has "rabbit ears"/afraid of the blowback, which should equally reduce respect for the man.

I will say it again,,,,TB is in way over his head,,,,,do you think he needed to get confrontational or defensive ? To say he did not tell his coaches yet is BS,,,,he should just say who it is ,,its really no big deal we are talking about the backup qb !!! BUT he made it a big deal
Maybe he should just of said the truth --------> Petty is the backup because Hackenburg just aint ready yet but I cant say that because my Boss MM picked the guy in the second round !
I really think Petty is going to get screwed over and not get his shot,,,,,and I think this coaching staff is clueless

They're not obligated to and I'm not worried about Petty personally...I'm worried that as a fan of the team we're going to screw another one up...which given the Jets history when it comes to QBs, is a pretty damn valid concern

I liked Petty in college and I liked how much progress he made...there is no reason at all for the fans and team not to be able to watch him play some games this season

I want to see Petty and Hack (if Hack is ready)...Unless Fitz stops playing like Fitz which is not happening

This team seems incapable of finding a head coach with any sort of sense or create a tenable QB situation. I'd pay good money to see one of the other happen in the next 25 years(hedging my bets).

If that's the case, I hope Woody cleans house and fires all of them, including Mac. If Hack is backing up Fitz, it will be an all-time stupid move. If he plays, I hope he throws 10 interceptions. Petty is the only one who makes any sense as the backup.

Even if Fitz stops playing like Fitz, there is no reason to continue playing him. If they think this team is making the playoffs, then they're effing delusional if not insane. There is no reason to play Hack unless Petty gets injured again, and even then the Jets should sign some JAG off his sofa to finish out the season, or let Powell play QB.

They are obligated because Petty looked good in preseason and Hack looked like shit. In addition, they said that Hack was not going to play this year. His fundamentals aren't fixed and he has no chance of succeeding with his 37% accuracy and this OL. If they play Hack and screw Petty, I hope it blows up in their faces, they all get fired and never work in football again.
