Any news who it will be with Geno down? Back up has to have a shot playing if Fitz plays like garbage
http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2016/10/todd_bowles_has_picked_jets_backup_qb_vs_browns_so.html Bowles and the CS appear terrified to name the backup. Never heard of such nonsense before. Extremely timid when it comes to controversy aren't they.. More like scared shitless to me
If this is Bowles' plan to manage difficult decisions, he's gonna fail here in this market. This, along with the waffling on Fitz, makes him and the CS appear timid and indecisive. Two traits that spell disaster.
good grief that's so freakin weak. Those of you hoping one of the young guys will get a shot have to be disappointed. If they are too ball-less to announce who will hold a clipboard they sure as shit aren't going to announce one the starter any time soon
What might be the cause of this bullshit is that the Fanbase and the Media are more concerned about who the #2 guy is than Fitz and they're simply trying to put the focus back on FitzTragic and what's left of the 2016 season. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they already know the fans aren't really behind a win on Sunday but looking ahead to 2017 and beyond. Although the fans are done with 2016, the GM has too much money on the line this year to fold and the HC has to back up the GM. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Hack is named #2 if for no other reason, to justify his being drafted in the 2nd round thereby taking some heat off Mac. #QBblind
I see nothing wrong with not immediately disclosing who's next in line to replace Fitztragic. There's no need to.
It is getting a bit comical there in jersey........f it, just name powell the backup to screw everyone.
I like to apply the BB test in situations like this and I don't see BB keeping a decision like this a secret--maybe if it was the starter but not the b/up. IMO if its not Petty that would be a shame.
Hate to say it folks but this has a little kotite flavor and thats a shame cause i am sure bowles knows his shit, more than herm and likely as much as mangini, ryan.
If he is withholding naming a backup because he thinks the Browns are gonna spend extra preparation time on Petty and Hackenburg that's just hilarious. Keeping which back up who has never started a game from a team that's 0-7 is kinda pathetic.
This is what happens when first timers are hired and thrown into the deep end of the pool. Neither Mac nor Bowles were prepared to deal with this coming in so, they crawl into the foxhole and say nothing. The main challenge is to convince a skeptical fanbase that the rest of the 2016 actually matters in the playoff picture as the spectre of entire empty sections must be terrifying to a GM that doled out millions of dollars to underperforming players and a first time HC being highly scrutinized by the media for being not only unprepared, but outcoached for the most part this season. The Optics on this entire episode are horrible for this regime. The Fanbase is losing confidence in them by the day. Not sure what's going thru Woody's mind right now but its gotta be.. "WTF.."
Yea, this isn't a big deal at all. He said the reason he's not telling is because he just made the decision and he wants to tell the coaches and players before he tells the media. Same reason he gave for "sticking" with Fitz after the Cardinals loss. The media just thinks they should be the first to know for some reason so they get all pissy and write bad articles when they aren't. IMO the Jets might be looking for a way to start Hackenberg over Petty once they're out of playoff contention and the best way to do it is to discretely have him be the backup now. Bowles is very old school so it's very unlikely that he'll have Fitz 1, Petty 2 and have Hack leapfrog Petty to be the starter once the season is over. In his mindset, when the starter isn't performing, the job goes to the backup, not some future play. That's why it could be easier to say that Hack took the backup job while Petty was injured and then the plan falls into place from there. That's my thought process on it, we'll see what happens when inactives are announced. If Petty is the backup it probably means they decided to truly give Hack a redshirt year because this is by far the easiest point to flip the depth chart.
I know he may be injured, but I'm starting to think this regime wants Hackenburg to jump Petty in the depth chart, even if he isn't ready. I hope they aren't going to rush him as a way of justifying taking him in the 2nd round.
