If any of you watched CG presser today he said they played off because of Geno's ability to throw deep and that allow the running game to be better. That being said old pop gun is back so figure stacking the box again and make Fitz beat them...
Belichek would have had his ass run out of town on a f'n rocket! That's why they're the class of the NFL and us? Not so much...
The most we can hope for is that Macc, Bowles and Woody learn from this debacle, and create a class of the NFL type of atmosphere. Also, have to wonder what the Pats would have done if you had wide receivers pining for a QB to be re-signed. Imagine decker not coming to mini camp because he wants to protest a QB being unsigned? The inmates are running the asylum
Those kinds of players couldn't or wouldn't be playing for the Patriots. They wouldn't be playing for Parcells either. There's a certain amount of decorum and respect that has to be maintained. The employer/employee dynamic has to include discipline and knowing where one's place is in the pecking order. With Geno gone and the CS scared to start the kids, Fitz holds all the cards. Explains why he basically middle fingered his bosses and got a pass for doing it. Remember that Bowles is a former player himself and as such, "understands" what the players are feeling. Sometimes a player's coach works. What is missing here in our situation is leverage. The FO/CS had none in this case as without Geno, it would have forced them to either eat that shit sandwich FitzTragic served up OR, maintain some dignity by cutting Fitz and moving on to Petty, Hack and 2017. There had to have been some discussion about that series of statements and you have to wonder if Marshall's reaction to possibly cutting the guy that always throws him the ball would be. Would the old Marshall show up pouting like the angry child he was in Chicago? Who knows but I got a silver dollar that says they didn't want to find out..
If they really had to wonder and worry about what Marshall would say or do, then he doesn't belong here imo. They ought to trade him for whatever they can get. We don't need a vet WR here to help lead the youngsters who accepts dropping passes, who will threaten to mouth off to the press if he doesn't get his way, or pouting and being negative in the lockerroom.
NC, from what I've read, up until now Marshall has been a model citizen in the lockerroom. He finally got his private Qb that's gonna force the ball to him no matter what the coverage is. That is the Wr's dream situation so again, He's had nothing to bitch about. He has voiced his support for Fitz but remember that he also voiced his support for Geno before "the punch". I'm not saying Marshall has reverted back to his PITA ways again, but I am saying the FO/CS really didn't want to go there. Should they consider trading Marshall? A vet receiver with a penchant for critical drops won't fetch much on the open market. Regarding releasing Fitz, you have to think Marshall would have had a rather vocal reaction as that would cut into his throws. I don't see Marshall being too keen on taking passes from Petty or Hack.
Just had a scary thought.. Neither our starting QB nor our #1 Wr has ever made it to the post season. Considering both of these guys have been in the league for more than a few years..... Wow...
You nailed it. Marshall is not good for the long term aspirations of the team. If this was basketball Marshall would be the guy chucking 30 shots a game to average 20 points while the team loses. That type of guy always praises his teammates because they let him do what he wants like Marshall does. I think they should move on from him after the season. They got some young talent at WR anyway . Fitz and Marshall can both hit the road after the season and we move on to young blood at QB/WR
I know that Marshall has been pretty much a model citizen up until this point. I know he's had nothing to bitch about. Still a professional WR is paid by the team to catch passes from whomever the QB is. The WR doesn't get his preference. He's the Jets' #1 WR. Especially with Decker, gone, Marshall will still be the primary target regardless of whom the QB is. I don't see why he would have any problems receiving passes from Petty. Petty's more accurate than Fitz, and more likely to lead Marshall so Marshall could get more YAC, and not throw behind Marshall or where Marshall has to fight the defender for the ball. I can see where he might have some qualms about catching passes from Hack since as hard as it is to believe, his accuracy is worse than Fitz. I think you're wrong about Marshall not bringing much in trade. After last year, he has made himself a valuable acquisition again, both on and off field. The Star Ledger said a playoff team like the Chiefs (who basically only have Maclin and Kelce) as receiving targets could benefit in a big way from Marshall's presence. For a shot to win the SB, I'd think they'd gladly give a 3rd rounder and maybe a 2nd rounder as The Star Ledger suggests. Even if the Jets just get a 4th for him, that's better than what they paid for him. They would clear cap space for next season, not have to worry about him shooting his mouth off, and give the young WRs a chance to develop. They'd also be doing Marshall a favor by giving him a chance to make the playoffs for the first time in his career. Whereas he might be hurt that the Jets traded him, I think he'd understand and quickly accept and be happy with the trade, especially if Bowles is as clueless as he seems.
Even just a 4th rounder could give us improved depth at TE, OG and maybe even a starter at one of those positions or RB.
The fact that a 33 year old, journeyman qb has all the leverage in this situation is awful. I'm hoping the turn over to Petty or Hack happens within the next few games because I think the coaching staff realizes any game plan that includes Fitz throwing the ball will effectively result in a loss. I would actually be ok with trading Brandon Marshall to a contender. His 1 drop a game, fitz magic shirts, and going down with the ship antics explain why he was even traded in the first place.
That won't happen, but it may give us the flexibility to select another DE with one of our earlier picks.
This is a solid post and really says it all. We have already had a complete shake down. I'm not sure what else there is we can do though. What is known to me is that this team is lost and it has to be a leadership issue.
