I think it would open up a lot to have petty or hack out there. Sure they might stack the box but being able to just throw deep would open things up. Robbie Anderson seems to always beat the corners deep. With a qb that can hit him in stride, it would make a huge difference in the offense.
I'll make a deal with ya....do something else the next few Sundays and when Fitz is pulled for Petty I will call you direct on your flip phone so you can tune back in, and not waste any more Sundays torturing yourself.
Are you maligning the awesomeness that is the flip phone!!?!! How dare you sir, how.....dare......you... Seriously tho I'd love to see a rugged smart flip phone for the U.S market. Generally those thing were fairly tough. There is nothing like watching your new, sleek, and slippery smart phone heading towards its inevitable death via busted screen to make you want to give up mobile phones forever.
So you are telling me I shouldn't start Fitz in my fantasy league this week? The comment I first responded to asked, "What makes you think that Fitz gives us the best chance to win the next 9 games in a row?" I figured that meant vs the other QBs on the roster. I agree with the assessment in general that it is delusional to think the Jets will bang out 9 in a row. But I can't see Petty or Hackenburg being better options at this time due to Petty's injury, and Hackenburg's lack of experience. I have no doubt we'll see Petty at some point this season, it'll just be after the Jets lose another game or 2 and he is back in the flow of things. If the goal is winning, then Fitz does give the Jets the best chance in the present. If the goal is evaluating talent for next year, then obviously that will change. You can't really blame the Jets for putting what they think is the best product on the field until mathematically eliminated. That's a hefty assumption there. They can make all the throws, but will they with the lack of experience in the system and lack of team chemistry? The weaker oline certainly doesn't help that cause either. The ability to throw deep alone is not enough to actually execute the play live. Timing is very important, give Petty another couple weeks.
LOL Do what you want, but I wouldn't start Fitz in my fantasy league. Yes, of course the Jets have to do what they think best. They may think the season is over and want to start Petty now, but think the fans and media would kill them for quitting on the season. They may think that they have to keep at least putting forth the effort to win until they're eliminated from the playoffs or Petty is ready (whichever comes first). They may be waiting until the OL is healthy again. Then again, Bowles may be hesitant to go with Petty since he is unproven and missed 6 weeks of practice. There's no doubt that missing that much practice would be hard on anyone. If they left it up to Petty, I'm sure he'd say he'd love to start now. We just have to hope that they're making the right decisions, and not being too cautious or conservative. It may be a hefty assumption, but I think it all depends upon where Petty really is. Granted it was against 2nd and 3rd stringers, but I think Petty looked pretty good in preseason. He looked poised and like he belonged. He showed that he can make all the throws. I'm assuming that during the time he couldn't practice, that his nose was still in the playbook, he was still watching practice, studying film and preparing to play and not just sitting around playing Madden. I remember that during OTAs and early during TC Petty looked shaky, but then really started coming on and played well in preseason. Since he was a 4th round pick and didn't immediately light up the NFL and blow away Fitz and Geno, I know that some posters here don't think he will ever amount to anything, but I do. I'm not sure, maybe it's just agita, but I have a gut feeling that he is going to pan out and be at least a solid starter for us. He may never be a star or top ten QB, but I think he will give us consistently good play, and won't beat himself or the team with mistakes. I could be wrong, if so, so be it. It won't be the first time, and am sure it won't be the last.
Heaven Forbid...they may also start Petty and WIN a few games too...bet they never once thought of that.
Hopefully, they will start Petty, and sooner rather than later. If they do, I definitely think that they'll win a few games.
true....my only issue with my old flip phone was hitting each number 1-2-3 times while trying to create a txt msg!
"Asked if he regrets his postgame comments, Fitzpatrick said, "No, not at all." Teammate Eric Decker, a close friend, speculated in a radio interview that Fitzpatrick's mini-rant after the game may have been fueled by lingering "hard feelings" from the long contract dispute in the offseason. "I don't care to comment on that," Fitzpatrick said. "We'll see how long this lingers."" Geezus Chr Almighty. Why is this guy still on the team? Probably hoping to see this: "Last time Ryan Fitzpatrick returned from a benching ... 6 TDs! Two years ago, Ryan Fitzpatrick got benched by the Houston Texans after a Week 9 loss. He lost his starting job to the inexperienced Ryan Mallett, and he publicly expressed his displeasure. Two weeks later, the Texans went back to Fitzpatrick, who responded with the game of his life -- six touchdown passes and 358 yards in a rout of Tennessee." [Actually week 13 -- against the mighty 2-14 Titans >eye roll<...whatever.] (All quotes from the Jets blog at ESPN). Ron
What came to mind after he made those comments was: How long would it take for the Patriots to cut a player that openly criticized the owner, GM, and coach? The problem with all of this that the Jets, from the top down, have been hosed by Fitzpatrick. We fell for the act last season with good play, and are getting humiliated now. We paid him 12 mil, we let him play like garbage, and now because of an injury he's back in there after blasting those very same people that labeled him as a starter right after we lost the Buffalo week 17. My impression is that Fitz got comfortable, lost his edge and now he's a QB with a bulls eye on his back because many fans will rip him at any given moment. I don't think he lasts another game or two...we're talking about the worst statistical QB in the league here
The jets would almost definitely be better long term if they were to lose this week. Just so we can move on from fitz
THIS. I cannot believe that this guy is still behind center after whining to the media,,,,,, I hated Geno but was all in on benching Fitz and giving Geno an oportunity,,,,but now its freaking groundhog day with a malcontent behind center ! Can you imagine the shitstorm that is coming Fitzpatricks way ( and we all know its coming just a matter of when ) after his next bad outing ? If they lose this week and Fitz plays poorly , then this will be the week he gets buried and there will be no coming back from losing to the 0-7 Browns
CBG, I liked when he came in the game Sunday and they showed his NFL rankings, last in everything....comp %, INTS...ETC....he should be so proud of himself
I hated Mark Sanchez.... Fitztragic makes me miss good ol' hotdog eating, booger wiping, hair band wearing, butt fumbling Mark Muthafuckin' Sanchez.
