Dude how the hell would you know. Nobody outside of the Jets front office knows this. You're not there watching he film, you're not watching practice, you're not watching 7on7s, you're not in the QB meetings etc.
I also hate to say it, but the only reason people love Petty is because he has never played. It reminds me of the recent Matt Simms love. The reality is that when a guy is a 4th round pick and in year 2 he is still 3rd string, he is not destined to be an NFL starter . The mid round QBs who have distinguished themselves recently (Wilson, Prescott) flashed right away. I agree we should play Petty this season to see what he has, but the idea that he is the team's future, or that anyone on the coaching tag or front office is itching to see him play, 8/ somewhat laughable.
You are obviously a dope. The Cardinals got a solid linebacker in the second and Johnson in the third. Why would they take Johnson in the second when they could get him in the third. Marcus Golden has 6 sacks this year so far and has been a solid pick. Abdullah has been hurt. There were 7 running backs picked ahead of Johnson last year. Getting in the third and having two productive players picked ahead of him who graded ahead of him is exactly what a GM should be doing. Taking a small school player earlier than you have to isn't smart, it's dumb.
Assuming Hackenberg is off the table (red shirt) we have three choices: 1. Start Fitz - sure he may beat Cleveland but we don't win another game with that bum at the helm 2. Start Geno - even if Geno is considered to be our new #1 guy, what if he gets hurt? 3. Start Petty - nothing to lose, if he lays an egg you bench him in the second half and start someone else
BS. Some of us were glad the Jets took Petty. Some of us like the way he played in TC and preseason. You have no clue what you're talking about. There is no such reality. He was a project when taken because of the offensive system he was in, not because of fundamentals, lack of accuracy, or anything else. He was never in competition for the starting spot. He has been learning. Mac said from the time he took both Petty and Hack, that they were not going to make the same mistakes as the previous regimes did and rush them onto the field before they were ready to play and had a chance to succeed. Not everyone flashes right away. It takes some players longer to develop. The only thing that's laughable is your "know-it-all" attitude and dismissing him because he was taken in the 4th round and didn't light it up immediately. Peyton Manning didn't light it up immediately. I guess he was a bust. Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench for 3-4 seasons and didn't light it up immediately, either. I guess he's a bust too. SMH
Wishful thinking. The coaches don't view him like that, neither did the scouts of our team and the other 31 others. QBs in the 4th round are being drafted with the hope of potentially being solid #2s, and nothing in Petty's career to date suggests he is on a different course. The reality, one you seek to avoid, is that this fanbase has a longstanding habit of elevating no-name backups simply because they have never seen an actual snap, and therefore offer promise. This dates back to Kellen Clemens, but has gone on through the years for such luminaries as Greg McElroy and Matt Simms. If Petty wasn't here, it would be for whatever other young QB was our current #3. Peyton Manning was the #1 pick and widely considered one of the best college QBs of all-time. Rodgers was also considered to be the #1 pick until a very late and unexpected fall to the 20s on draft day (which turned out to be a colossal mistake for every team that passed on him). The fact that you compare those names with Petty, shows how out of touch with reality you are. I'm sorry to say. Petty's career trajectory is still "potential #2," same as when we drafted him. If he does not get on the field this season, that trajectory may even be lowered.
Start Geno if he's healthy enough...if he plays well keep him in and if he sucks then Petty for the rest of the way Fitz is not good
Fitz is going to start unless Geno has a miraculous recovery by next week. Petty will not be a consideration until the 8th loss. I'd rather see anyone other than Fitz, but the above is just reality. The coaching staff and front office does not view Petty right now the way that this fanbase does. Just as previous regimes did not view Matt Simms the way the fanbase did. If the organization was grooming Petty to be the future, he would have been starting this week.
Depends on what kind of team you think the jets are? My expectations were that our rough gameplan was to win the turnover battle, move the ball efficiently and maximise our field positions. It's the formulae most of us expected this year with the change in punter, the addition of Forte and a better ST package and pretty much a repeat of last year. Therefore I'd select Fitz as I trust him more to protect the football (WAIT FOR IT!) if our D is turning the ball over and we are within a score of the opposition. If you think the secondary cannot be fixed and we need to gamble on being able to win a QB duel then you'd have to take Geno's arm. The risk ofc being that he doesn't feel pressure (negative yardage) and his ball security mechanics in close quarters is rather poor (turnovers against you) Then there is the opinion that the seasons over anyway, Fitz throws ducks, Geno is stupid, both are gone next year so may as well start Petty to see if he has any talent to be a starter in this league.
Having just seen Fitz's press conference..............I'd go with Petty. Expressing his frustration that the FO and TB lost faith in him! The FO gave you a contract no-one else was close to offering and TB anointed you the starter and stuck with you during the 2 week pickfest and even batted for you after the shitshow against the Falcons.
I think you're right and if that happens, it would prove once again that this CS is QB blind and really afraid of any controversy.
Of course he will. He probably didn't even want to make the switch this week, but knew that the home crowd would probably turn on the team quickly if Fitz came out of the tunnel as the starting QB. We're stuck with Fitztragic until the team is mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Yeah, kinda surprised he took a shot at ownership and the coaching staff. Seriously Fitz, have you not seen how bad you've been this year?
The problem here is the players seem to prefer Fitz over Geno. If Bowles doesn't start Fitz and plays someone else then it seems he has lost the team. He's dancing a fine line that could lead to a pink slip. Best case he can hope for is Fitzmagic returns.
The schedule will get a little easier so Fitmagic will do exactly what he does best, give the jets and their fans the illusion that he is a good QB. Honestly, if I were the owner, after hearing a player that has sucked for the past(12years) and 5 weeks take a shot at me, I would ask the GM to cut him.
Not just any player but the one they inexplicably paid $12 million to keep when no one else was offering more than $3 million.
