I live in Jersey and i know nowthere are way too many people jumpin on the rutgers bandwagon, i live in Piscataway New Jersey, about 1 1/2 minutes from rutgers stadium and 2 1/2 walking, and i hear my friends (football players) i wanna go to Rutgers now, Rutgers, Rutgers, Rutgers, prior to this year i heard more rutgers sucks then i wanna go to rutgers...... Im happy for rutgers but people need to be more fucking honest, dont start with Rutgers Avatars and signatures, unless your a student, if not cut that shit out, because no one, i repeat no one liked rutgers prior to this year, people were happy, last year, shit i am, thats my moms alma mater and i live within crawling distance of all 4 of rutgers campuses, and my town is ridden with rutgers memoribilia..... Anyone with rutgers Avatar or etc.. will in my mind will immediately considered a bandwagoner, and no people putting in there signature

    RUTGERS....JETS....YANKEES/Mets......Devils/rangers/islanders

dont do that please, and i should be the first person jumping on the bandwagon, considering i couldnt even go to sleep hearing the band and crowd and rutgers stadium...

Why is being a bandwagoner a bad thing? I think that the more people who get interested in Rutgers football, the better for the University and for the sport.

Screw that. Rutgers needs all the bandwagoners we can get. Home games are so much more fun with the stands packed like this year. Besides the more recognition and popularity this program gets, the better chance they can recruit better players.

I don't care if you want to feel like you're the only Rutgers fan, this influx of new fans is a good thing. And for the record, I'm a senior graduating in May. I'm glad they're making this big of a splash while I'm still here.

Exactly. I'm a football fan who's never had a team to root for in the area--why is it a bad thing for me to start rooting for Rutgers? Fans will lead to media coverage, which will lead to big recruits, which will lead to sustained Big East success, which will lead to BCS Bowls.

But this is all a bad thing, because you won't be special anymore?

What I don't understand the bandwagon is a bad thing, this is how fans start out people. New Jersey has been desperate for a college football presence, and I'm damn glad to see the way that people have been accepting this team. The best is how dads are bringing their young kids to games with RU gear on, hopefully these kids will be growing up with an attachment to RU football, not like the people of my generation.

** Kinghenry and jetaholic are right on.

I can't help but think this is directed at Green Hurricane and me, seeing how we're practically the only ones with Rutgers avatars. If that's the case, screw you.

And what kind of wussy fan goes to bed while the whole campus was partying and rooting on their team?

It's my Alma Mater, so I think I can jump on and off as I please. I went to every single home game the year Rutgers Stadium opened (Lucas was the QB).

Well the master of the forum spoke so I guess we better not jump on the Rutgers bandwagon oh no not that.

1st off I grew up in New Jersey and I grew up going to Rutgers games. I remeber the year they went 7-4 beat 2 ranked teams and didn't go to a bowl game. You probably weren't even born yet.

I remember going to watch Rutgers when they played Miami on a thursday night in Piscataway in the pooring rain and they got shut out.

I went to college out of state therefore the only allegiance I have to Rutgers is the countless friends that went there oh that and the fact that I have been a fan since I was a kid.

I'll tell you what officer, I won't put up a Rutgers avatar, I'll leave Larry Johnson abusing 2 Duke players in the 1990 NCAA Championship game because you todl em I can't show my support for my home state team. What next I can't root for the Jets because they beat New England today?

Rutgers band-wagoners should be allowed since they haven't had success in a century or so.

For people w/o favorite teams it's ok but for a supposed fan of a big program who stinks this year to all of a sudden jump ship it's not ok.

This has to be the greatest weekend I've ever witnessed combining Rutgers and the Jets. For years football season was an exercise in futility on Saturday and Sunday.

The funny thing is, it was almost exactly ten years ago I remember a November weekend where on Saturday RU played at Notre Dame and lost something like 48-0, the next day the Jets were at Buffalo and lost something like 38-10. What a difference.

Technically by what the topic creator said, I'm not allowed to be a fan since I don't go there. My two best friends do, my brother and uncle are alumni, and I MYSELF plan to transfer there in two years, so am I an exception? I've liked them for at least 10 years since my brother was there. You're "no one liked them prior to this year" argument is crap because people did, they just had nothing to talk about..."oh, they lost again."

This is true. Seriously, I've been rooting for them about 25-30 years, but what were we supposed to talk about? If they were on I'd watch them, usually until the game became a blowout, then you just rooted for a good drive or something. Every now and then they'd come close to upsetting a Syracuse or someone but usually blow it at the end.

Rutgers was my second choice to attend behind Marist, but I've rooted for their football team since before that, and I'm 39. The funny thing is I'm not as big an RU basketball fan because I like Seton Hall, which doesn't play football.

    I welcome the bandwagoners because...

...the change in attitude towards the school is benificial. Potential recruits want to play in a full stadium on national TV. The recognition will only help us. Besides, it's not so lonely anymore on that bus ride from the train station to the stadium. I say welcome aboard.
