Now..... Geno time!!! or if not... at least we know we're finally closer to who we all MUTUALLY want at helm! Broadway Bryce Petty baby!!
There's no problem there. You let Smith play the whole game vs the Ravens regardless of how he plays. You prepare Petty in practice this week and you start him vs the Browns the following week. End of story.
You are right of course but that home crowd could get hostile in a hurry. They might start throwing pumpkins on the field.
The fans are gonna do what they're gonna do. At this point, Bowles and Mac need to do what's best for the team. If Petty looks sharp in practice this week (if they give him any real reps), and Geno sucks from the opening snap, they can always bring Petty in at some point.
Amazing that someone could even try and say it was just about one INT and that the other 30 starts had nothing to do with it. With Geno getting the start Sunday I guess we will see what he has, at least the "he never had good receivers" argument should get settled after a few games.
amazing that people could still be caught up on things that happened a whole regime ago with a rookie qb that probably should have spent his first two seasons learning in the first place. Not to mention since you wanna be stuck in the past lets look at Fitz last 12 of years of service LMAO
I responded to your post that chided people for their response to Geno's 1 INT in his only series as if they should look at it in a vacuum, as if we should forget his performance in his 30 other starts. What I saw in the 9 plays he was in was a lack of awareness that resulted in a fumble and a sack and I don't see how not being aware of a DB being in perfect position to get the INT is a great play by the DB or the receivers fault. Geno does not have good field vision, that is why he gave up the INT.
I was willing to give geno the benefit of the doubt but cmon he's got the same flawed thought process as Sanchez. The play breaks down and he wont throw it away. Instead, both guys start looking for something stupid to do with the ball resulting in a turnover. Everybody, wants to start, I don't believe there is one guy that enters the draft wanting to be a backup. Every single guy in the NFL was "the man" on their respective teams. It's a strong individual that can accept that they are no longer the big dog on campus but goes out there and gives 100% anyway; and do it without griping. Geno's job right now is "backup" quarterback. That job entails holding a clipboard until the coach calls your number. If it never happens then it never happens and its not your job to push any buttons. Button pushing is what Geno has gone ahead and done here and he'd better come on like gangbuster and stay that for the duration of this season. He hasn't shown he's that type of player at any stage of his pro career. Perhaps I'm projecting but I don't see the team rallying around a guy who has been a liability when he's on the field and not such a great guy off. I mean cmon' man he got punched for not just saying hey sorry I didn't make it here's the money for a ticket and maybe a few more bucks to help out the program he was supposed to speak at. As for Petty, I agree that putting him in vs the Browns would ease things but it doesn't look to me like they are trying to give up the season. I can see Bowles merry go rounding Fitz and Geno for the rest of the year. I'm basing this on the fact that he was sticking by Fitz until he wasn't this week in addition to Geno's quick hook vs the Raiders last season. Last bit, but if things keep up like this Bowles is going to be coaching for his job and that's not going to be conducive for getting a rookie in. If we are completely messed up and sitting at 2-3 wins when those last two games roll around there is no reason to not put Petty in. The Pats will be in cruise mode at that point, the Bills might be playing for a playoff spot so that one might be a bit rugged. I'll meet you in the middle and say we cut the Geno stint short and let petty roll vs the Colts. After them we have the 9ers(road) and Fins(home). Still, again, if it comes to that we probably have 2 wins and Todd is coaching for his job. I only see Petty in if he's guaranteed another season at the helm.
We were 4th and 11. Powell failed to block the blitz coming off the lefthand side, Geno WAS aware of this and scrambled right. BM was coming free crossing the centre, Geno would've had to thrown back across his body but not by a large margin to find him. He was however short of the first down marker and wouldn't of made it before his man and HB got to him. Robby Anderson was going deep down the side but was tightly covered and didn't try break his route back or infield to get open. That left Peake as the only viable option (unless your ideal play when trailing heavily in the 4th quarter and on 4th down is to throw it away in which case you are the kind of person who cheered when we punted on 4th and 2 against Pitt). The Badger is in loose coverage on him and has dropped off 10 yards pre-snap so knows there is only one place that ball is going. Soon as Geno cocks his arm, he is driving forward. The ball is well thrown it's not high, low or behind him but right where it needs to be - truth be told he could of gone a foot to the right and hope Peake can make a catch at full extension and stay in bounds but Geno ain't Wilson or Rodgers and considering his lack of recent exposure it was a very good throw. So now we have a 7th round pick against a pro-bowl safety. The gap in nous is obvious as Peake doesn't sense him coming and he isn't boxing him out, HB jumps in and makes the play. If Geno throws that ball on 3rd down or if we aren't being whupped or the pass is off target then we can crucify him but that INT is a result of 3 and a bit quarters of pure suckitude.
More and more I agree with you about Geno's flawed thought processes on the field (and probably off as well). My question is this, wasn't he asked by a reporter about wanting to play, or did he just volunteer the information? If the former, then I see nothing wrong with it. If it was the latter, then I can understand your frustration with it, but still. He's sitting there watching Fitz play like absolute dog shit. He has pride and confidence that he could do better and help the team. Perhaps he was trying to show some leadership and send a message to Bowles. If so, I applaud him for that. Bowles needed a wakeup call. I agree with you that they probably aren't ready to give up the season, and also that Bowles may not want to play Petty and would prefer to keep trying Fitz and Geno. The thing is that Mac and/or Woody could order Bowles to play Petty and it may be out of Bowles' hands. They may say they'll give him another year, but they need to see what they have in Petty, and they know they aren't bringing Fitz or Geno back. The Browns game is early in the season to start Petty, and would signal that they've pretty much given up on this year, but it may be the most sane thing to do. They can have a team meeting and let the players know that anyone dogging on the field will get his ass kicked to the bench, will be released or traded in the offseason, and that the Jets will publicly let the rest of the NFL and the world know what sorry characters they are and how they dogged it. They all should be told that the rest of the season they will be playing for their jobs next season.
It won't be just him and Fitz. Petty is healthy. He would probably be more limited since he hasn't practiced in a month, but he could play if need be. It would definitely be best to give Geno the whole Ravens game and let him sink or swim, but plan to start Petty against the Browns.
The play that broke down where Geno threw the int was a 4th down - you either make an attempt at a completion or get totally blasted for not even trying. People need to have some perspective and stay objective, no matter how hard thatt is based on results to date this year. I think trying to judge any QB entering a game 28-3 down in the 4th Qtr is pointless, the D-line just pin their ears back and rush the passer. You can get a lot of garbage time yards if the D plays soft, but the Cards who were smarting from a few loses of their own were never going to do that. The strip sack was the result of pressure thay came on the right side and I saw Okafor round Ijalana (who was in a one on one situation) and reach Smith in under 2 seconds - hardly the case he held the ball too long and hardly is a case for lack of awareness. I will hold off and see what he does with a week of getting the reps and starts with the ability to use the run game. Bowles seemed to favour Fitz immediately after the game but it seems that others in the locker room and CS may have lost some belief in Fitz (who I was not a fan of resigning but rooted for once he did) and unfortunately he has shown us why he has never beaten strong teams on the road, why he has never been to the playoffs and why he has been on SIX different teams, if he signs for a 7th it will be an NFL record!!! Sheesh, Petty is on the team in year 2 and has not started yet as they give him time to acclimate to the change in complexity and increase in speed a QB has to deal with - something the previous CS did not afford Geno. Can you imagine if either Petty or Hack was thrown in as a rookie - yes I see Dak in Dallas but that is the exception, look at Lynch in Denver or worse Goff in LA, even for Wentz the wheels have fallen off the Wentz wagon over the past few weeks - it damages confidence and can ruin a career Lets all cross our fingers and hope Geno shows more maturity next Sunday and the Offence play well, that the D bends but does not break and that teams are on song - even in this dark pit of abject despair that accompanies a 1-5 start I hope I enjoy next weekend's game
Well as I already mentioned that throwing it away was a 'loser' option the only other thing would've been for him to try run it and that would've resulted in him eating turf or running out of bounds at the LoS. Perhaps however I am missing something and I bow to your superior post count and eagerly await your opinion on what Geno should of done once that ball was snapped?
Very true indeed. Geno is given his chance after 2 years of inactivity to show what he really has to offer. A couple of games could tell much of the story. Fitz has already demonstrated after 6 games THIS YEAR and that miserable final game las year that he is not the answer. Period end of story. One good game and 6 dreadful games are not the answer. Lets move on.
