Bryce Petty Geno Smith Christian Hackenberg Khirry Robinson Dee Milner Dexter McDougle Just to name a few off the top of my head.
Devin Smith was consistently getting open last season but of course Fitz had no arm strength or the desire to go outside of his favorite targets in Decker and Marshall. Smith's career thus far has been extremely unlucky. Missed most of training camp last season, and then tore his ACL. That in and of itself can derail a career. I hope they bring him along, and let him get comfortable in the offense. Now that Geno is starting, and maybe petty and hack if things get worse, they can at least throw a deep ball. Fitz' inability to do so can really stunt the growth of young WR's.
Nice Job. Now for each one, lets see how many games they have started for the Jets since then: Geno Smith - 0 Christian Hackenberg - 0 (He was drafted this year, not 2015) Khirry Robinson - 0 Dee Milner - 5 Dexter McDougle - 14 All of them with the exception of McDougle played either none, or less games than Smith (10). Dee Milner was released, McDougle is on the Practice Squad. So if your argument is that Smith should be released or placed on the Practice Squad, I agree with you.
Again, I ask, what poor QB arm or bad luck caused that unforgivable play against the Bills on that kickoff?
Aside from the fact that he was never a kick returner in college, it was a bad play. But wait...you're going to crucify a rookie wide receiver for muffing a kick? Like a poster said before, should we cut Jalin Marshall too? I'm really unsure why 1 muffed kick return would automatically result in fans thinking he's a bust.
Listen you got nothing other than an irrational hate for Devin Smith. I have no idea why nor do I care. If you want to continue sounding like an irrational fool by all means go right ahead. I will no longer waste my time with this nonsensical conversation. Personally I hope you lost your house on that game and cry yourself to sleep on some park bench somewhere.
I think you mean in college, he was NOT open last year. he got no separation for a supposed speed guy. That fitz couldn't hit him more than 10 yds downfield just confirms what a waste of a pick it was to draft him in round 2.
actually quite a few times last year he was open and taking the top off of defenses only to be overlooked. When fitz did throw to him, they usually were not on the same page which resulted in incompletions and/or drops. We should all just be a bit more patient before we write people off as wasted picks/busts/etc. Players deserve a solid 3 seasons before that kind of definitive judgment comes out. That's not me saying that he will turn out to be a great player, but I'm not as quick to write him off as some have been. Its frustrating as a fan to see a high pick not get game time, whether it be injury, or in hack's case, not being ready, but we as a fan base have to be a bit more patient with players. Let's see how he plays going forward before we say he's a wasted pick
I'm not a Devin Smith fan what so ever but to kill the guy is just a bit unfair ... in other news no one named Smith should be on this team hehe
Because he didn't "muff" that kick. He FUMBLED the football after stupidly trying to return the kickoff after he caught it in the endzone. For a player who is, by your admission, "never a kick returner", this is a serious lapse of judgment resulting from a lack of fundamental football knowledge. If you are going to defend the guy, please at least be honest. Devin Smith started 10 professional football games. Can you name three memorable plays that he made?
Devin Smith must be happy about Geno, somebody that can reach him deep. Update: too bad he can't get open and can't catch
Are you telling me that 43-yard drop against the Texans last year that would have been a IRONCLAD TD was Fitzpatrick's fault?
I don't need to try any harder. You are doing a fine job making yourself look like an irrational fool all by yourself.
