Apparently I'm in the minority in wanting to see Geno instead of Fitz (And then Petty if/when geno fails) So let's see if that's the case Edit: On Mobile...Typo with "Forward"
Petty, when healthy. Fitz or Geno until then. Doesnt matter which, neither have a future past this season and the Jets cant win with either of them. Maybe Geno, just so we can see how our young receivers handle the deep ball.
I tend to agree that Petty is the most intriguing but he needs a few weeks of practice as he's just coming off injury. I think the bye week to get him ready would be ideal But until then it's Geno over Fitz...no brainer One poster in a different thread says I'm crazy LOL...let's see
I'd have no problem cutting Geno and Fitz 5 mins ago and going with Petty as the starter and Hack holding the clipboard until Petty has shown he's not capable.
I don't know why starting Petty is not realistic, the kid at least showed some potential in the preseason and has been sitting and watching in this offense for almost a year and a half. Any halfway competent coach would be starting Petty the rest of the way to at least rule him out from being future QB.
I considered it solely for the reason that I don't think the team would win another game if Fitz continues to start, and at this point, I care more about draft position than I do wins. Ultimately, I voted for Geno (until Petty is ready), because we need to find out what we have with our young WRs in Robinson, Peake and Jalin Marshall. We need to work to develop them and ASJ.
I hear ya on that. If we want to look deep (and with a crazed mindset), leaving Fitz in is a learning curve what Petty and Hack should NOT be doing
Throw Geno in till Petty is good to go. Definitely want to see Petty in there though because if he comes in and lights it up. The Jets have a very small glimmer of hope moving forward. As it stands right now this team looks like it is 2 to 3 years away from being competitive
Assuming Petty is healthy, there is not one legitimate reason to start either of them. Fitz is god awful. Geno came in and made the same mistakes he's made forever. They are both terrible football players. At this point, I wish we could even find a way to get rid of Marshall. The season is over, bottoming out is in the Jets best interest.I would think a team would definitely give up more than the 5th we used to get him. See if you can get draft picks for anyone still playing at a high level that is not a part of the future plans. Once Petty is healthy, throw him out there with Enunwa/Peake/Anderson, and see what we can do. It'll help see what we have in Petty, and will also make the season much more enjoyable to watch. Take notes from this years Yankees.
Definitely Geno until the bye. Baltimore, Cleveland, Miami, LA are not a murderers row of teams....if Geno struggles you yank him and see what Petty's got
Not realistic to start this week because he's coming off injury and likely needs a few weeks to practice before making his first career start in the NFL I would like to see Petty eventually but for the next couple weeks it's Geno or Fitz
If I were the HC, I'd start Geno vs the Ravens. I don't think he's the answer long term, so unless he threw for 400 yards, committed no TOs or boneheaded plays, I'd start Petty the following week vs the Browns. IMO we need to give Petty every opportunity to succeed and put him in a position to succeed. I don't think we could find a better first team in which to start Petty other than the Browns. The Browns are followed by the Dolphins and Rams, and then the Bye week before facing the Pats. That would give Petty 3 starts and 5 weeks to prepare for the Pats. This would give him a fighting chance to succeed. If he played well, that would give him 9 games to prove himself and the Jets 9 games to determine whether he can be their starter next season. If he played abysmally or was re-injured, then they could go back to Geno and tell him that this was his audition for a future with an NFL team. The schedule isn't ideally set up for letting Hack play any this season. Our last two games are against the Pats and Bills. That would be like throwing Christians to the lions in ancient Rome. I think that would be the worst possible thing they could do for his development and chances of developing. IMO Hack should sit this season. Petty and/or Geno should finish the schedule. If I were the GM, I'd convince Woody that we had to abandon this idiotic win now nonsense, and go with a youth movement for the rest of the season to see which players could help us going forward and to speed up the development of those who can. IMO at this point that's the only thing that can help the team going forward and the only thing that should matter. If I succeeded, I'd order Bowles to start Geno this week, then Petty going forward. The offense would give plenty of opportunities to Peake, Anderson, Enunwa, J. Marshall, ASJ, Braedon Bowman, Bostick, Powell and Troymaine Pope. On defense, I'd give Burris and Roberts a lot more snaps at CB, Josh Martin more snaps at OLB, I'd give Antonio Allen some snaps, Rontez Miles more snaps, and would put Pryor back in the role he was in last season. I'd go back to the 3-4 and stop the stupid 4-3 nonsense.
Let Geno fuck up until after the Browns game, then insert Petty. That should give Petty some time getting reps. They should put Fitz 3rd on the depth chart, NOT 1 freaking rep for Fitz, not 1. Next off-season, let Petty and Hack battle it out, improve the offensive line get a vet for 3rd on the depth chart. If the Jets learned anything it's time to see what the young kids can do.
Did you look at the rest of the schedule? If you do things as you suggest, Petty's first start would be vs the Pats. He'd have zero chance of success. That would be stupid. If you're going to wait that long to play Petty, then you should wait at least until after the first Pats game, then Petty's first start would be vs the Colts, followed by the 49ers, and that would give him 2 games to get his feet wet before facing the Pats and Bills the last two games of the season.
It's a pecking order but give Geno the chance. Then let Petty (who I really want) to take over. Geno has more arm talent then Fitz but he probably has the worse pocket presence of the QB's on the roster. But you have to give him a chance because he's been practicing and knows the offense...over Petty who is just coming back from injury. I really think Petty can be something for the Jets
Formation makes no difference when Lorenzo gets no PT. 3-4, 4-3 the Jets defense is swiss cheese. Going to 3-4 full time won't solve the Jets issues. It's all lack of execution, lack of effort.
