Mike Maccagnan is not John Idzik. From the past draft class (which, BTW is his first with his own people --- 2015 he kept the previous shitty Jets scouting department), he filled 3 positions (D. Lee, J. Jenkins and L. Edwards), found 2 others very capable of contributing (J. Burris & C. Peake) and a wildcard unknown (C. Hackenberg). John Idzik drafted 12 players in 2014. We're getting contributions from Pryor & Enunwa. Dozier is virutally invisible. With the exception of Jace Amaro, --- the rest are OUT OF FOOTBALL. I'd rather give Maccagnan as many bullets as possible.
Unless one of our young QBs puts on a show we can and will draft a QB in round one. Otherwise LT, OLB, or CB/S could be possibilities.
Which qb would you want? I prefer Deshaun Watson, then Kayaa ( The Miami qb) then Deshaun Keizer.....
I think they both have huge potential..... I hate drafting RB's early though.... and they are both going to have a fair amount of mileage coming with them.....
Chad Kelly in the 2nd round would be an interesting selection. Kelly, Hackenberg, and Petty battle it out and the best man wins. Those are three "gunslinger" type QBs. If nothing else it would be interesting. In terms of the 1st round, Idc where they pick, but I want the nastiest mo'fo they can find at offensive line. Tackle, guard, right or left, top 10, or later, I don't care, but you find an offensive lineman who plays with a mean streak as that's what this team needs badly. Look at the cowgirls. Lots of talk about Prescott and Elliott but Prescott has ALL DAY back there and their line bulldoses people to clear paths for Elliott. No wonder they are having success.
This team doesn't draft Offense in the first round. We then blow it in the 2nd round after all the good offensive prospects are gone. Fire the GM and HC and do this right or don't.
QB at any cost. The team has many other issues..but nothing can be fixed until an identity is in place. QB is the only place to start.
I know it's TOTALLY unsexy, but we should probably load up on O-line. Look at what Dallas is doing with that stud o-line. I know its boring but the O-line makes everyone better.
I have been beating this OL drum for 10 years during the draft. The jets ignore it EVERY year in the draft. The jets have the WORST OL in football. How in the hell could Mac, Bowles, Gailey even THINK that Winters, Ben I., Quale, or Dozier could occupy the right side of the line???? Mangold is on his 11th season and Clady has been hurt more than Dexter McDougle. DON"T DRAFT ANOTHER QB high in the draft. Move down, get a lot more picks and fortify the OL like we did in 2006. Another QB can't open any holes for the RBs and for God's sake don"t draft defense again in the first round! I think we are officially at the Rich Kotite totally rebuild mode.
I think there's credence to building through the OL...and the position has definitely deteriorated. But I have a hard time calling them the worst OL in football. THey've had some good games thus far this season & allowed the fewest sacks last season while also having one of the top running attacks last year. They switched a zone scheme this offseason. The running game has definitely suffered as a result. the pass pro has gotten worse..but injuries have played a major part as has the complete lack of big play ability. It allows DLs to pin their ears back w. little or no discipline...that can be hard to neutralize zone scheme or not. I also don't think the team has ignored the position. I think they've done an absolutely putrid job of drafting & developing the right guys. Like everywhere else on the team...they haven't build a unit whose skill sets compliment one another & can blend any cohesion. It's a bunch of totally different skill sets lumped together like a big pile of shit. James Carpenter & Brian Winters are completely different style guards..Clady is a zone guy, Mangold is a gap guy....and who exactly is our RT again???
If what you say is true (and I have no reason to believe it is not) then WHY did they make that switch to zone (if the OL was so good last year?) I still say it is a lack of talent on the OL, pure and simple, because they have used high picks on the likes of Amaro, McDougle, Geno Smith, Devin Smith, Hackenberg, Coples, Millner...all major contributors on the jets...and not the OL...pure and simple.
I have nothing to add other than no Kizer. Notes Dame QBs remind me of Duke basketball players. Hyped to hell and then suck in the pros.
Chad Kelly is the last player this team should draft. The kid is a douche. Not to mention he's just not good. Nothing says dumpster fire like Chad Kelly.
Well let's not go too far w. my excitement for last year or this Year's OL.Their play has been spotty all along..and to your point things could be much better. I'm merely downplaying the notion that this is the worst OL in the sport. I hate to say it...but they are one of the better. That's not an indictment but rather the sad state of OL play across the league.I actually think the OL is the lone unit on the team w. consistently good gameday coaching. This unit could be performing alot worse than it has over the last several years given the sad state in the W-L column as well as the QB position. When things go right on offense..it's usually b/c the OL carried the load. That maybe the 1 unit on the team we can actually hang our hat on.That's not to say they haven't laid their share of eggs...just that they are more than capable of taking over any game..I credit that to coaching/infrastructure above all else. It seems your gripe is more w. the use or allocation of draft picks up front & the overall collection of talent than so the actual finished product. That's a fair viewpoint but let's not discount Ducasse,Winters or Dozier all taken in the first 4 rounds & given time to develop or the allocation of funds to bring in Carpenter,Giacomini as well as Clady. No doubt we've had more misses than hits...and we haven't developed a single guy including a multitude of late round names not mentioned above. Depth is absolutely non-existent. That's where all those failed prospects hurt. We can't afford more than 1 injury on an aging line playing zone where you absorb more than you inflict.Maybe your onto something w. using our major chips on OL. Why fight the 1 resounding thing a franchise does right? That said...the trenches are having less impact than ever in this pitch & catch league. Maybe if we already had a competent passer in place we could load up on goliaths & play to our strength, Unfortunately we are totally inept at the QB position..so much so that it simply cannot be ignored. You cannot win this league w.o a downfield passing attack.Period.
Nobody has depth anymore, with what the starters get paid who can afford it? You can only hope to luck into a later round draft pick that is more than anybody hoped they would be and then you have them for 4 years.
oh he's a douche. I'm not gonna argue against that. I take exception to the claim he's "just not good." He is a very good football player and he shows it by lighting up the SEC every week. Two games against Alabama's vaunted defense: 762 yards and 6 TDs...... but yeah, he's "just not good." douchebag? absolutely. But were talking about picking him to quarterback my football team not date my daughter. I thought it was hilarious that he's still throwing up hail mary passes at Mia Khalifa though despite her very public shutdowns. I can respect that. No chance but he still gives it a try. determination lol
You do realize if we take a relative of a former bill great, we are probably going to have to look at Jim Kelly's ugly mug in the stands reminding us every week how long it's been sense we've had a good qb right? Lol
