I am a soccer guy. And I know things aren't exactly same when it comes to soccer and football. But for the life of me, I don't understand how certain QB talents are passed over by entire GM's in a draft while it is almost impossible to do so in soccer. How was Brady a 6th round guy? Rodgers a late firs rounder? Wilson a 3rd rounder, Dak a 4th rounder etc. Can you imagine Messi being looked over until the age of 22? Or Cristiano Ronaldo for that matter? Messi has clips from when he is 11 Barcelona brought his family from Argentina to Spain when he was 11. I know different sports and all but why does Jets suck picking the right QB year after year. Good thing I am a Jets fan for only 9 years now. I can't imagine going thru this craziness for 47 years like some of here.(champ champ champ) Fire away. Educate this idiot please.
There just aren't that many people who can play QB in this league. Look around the league. There are like 10 good ones and the rest hurt their teams every week.
i would just argue that its due to college and the NFL being two completely different games now. the mental aspect of the game just isn't there for these young kids
You need to figure out a good offensenive line first. You should also figure out a good running attack to balance your arial assault. Play action is still the dagger to all defenses; misdirection like a mofo. One step, In the wrong direction, is all you need; pull the ball out and woop over the top. Counters & traps teeth to play action All the best Jets teams had stronger running attacks. We need to learn how to run the football again.
QB position in college is different than in the pros. What if soccer players in college only played foozball at the local arcade, and scouts watched them and try to figure out which player's foozball skills will translate to the pro-soccer field. It's kinda like that.
With our team it doesn't matter. We draft as if we have sh#t for brains and we do draft what seems like a gem he shits the bed. (qb's)
It's difficult, but it isn't as difficult as the Jets have made it look. Combination of bad luck and incompetent people running the team.
QBs being carried by the talent around then QBs running simple systems that don't require much thought or difficult decisions/throws Uneven defense College coaches masking deficiencies for the sake of winning that become apparent in the pros Different style of play Lots of stuff.
Along with the inability to get a franchise QB, we haven't exactly been blessed in the coaching department either. Clearly our best coach over the past 47 years (and I've seen them all), took an underachiever /disappointing QB and lead him to his greatest season. (Parcells & Vinny Testaverde). On the other hand, we've had some good QBs (O'Brien, Pennington & Sanchez) who were poorly coached; . Bruce Coslet cut a guy who had some success later on (Jeff Blake). We tried the big money route (Neil O'Donnell) and that didn't work out. The same great coach who helped out Vinny may have cut the legs out from under Neil.
before you get your saliva all over some of the 1st year guys...wait a year. There's a lot of guys that regress. As for Brady...he couldn't even take the full time starting job on his own team. There's very few surefire guys like Manning that it's obvious that they can put it all together especially over a long period of time.
Brady is an interesting case, to go from 6th rounder to one of the all time greats is pretty crazy. Think part of it was that he was physically a late bloomer/under-developed (his combine photo in his boxers doesn't shout elite athlete)
