Fitz's failures are not new-- they are just accentuated by our D not being able to ya know, play football. If our D would come anywhere close to living up to its billing, we would be playing games with a lead, or at least very close games. We all knew that Fitz wasn't the right QB to have in the game if you're down more than one score, but many of us (including our GM) thought he was perfect for a team with a dominating Defense and a shitty O-line.

Somehow, the O-line is playing well above where they should be, and the D is doing something other than play defense. I think maybe they are just picking up scrubs from their opponents for their fantasy football teams--why else would they always get slaughterd by the scrubs that keep lighting them up?

    I'd despise going 0-16 too.

Did you really include Dallas in that list of teams? LOL. They just lucked into a franchise QB in the fourth round, only after they hid the Johnny Football draft card from Al Davis 2.0

They do have a bright future, but it's not a team with sustained success.

As far as losing being a cancer

All we need is Roy Hobbs.

    Roy didn't go to Harvard.

Yes 1-4 with 12m in cap space is better than just 1-4

I think we are 0-5 if Geno is QB:

Fitz played a good game in Buffalo (will likely be the last good moment of his career)

That's the best argument to start Geno.

I hope Bowles wises up soon so the Jets can lose all the rest of their games and get a good draft pick. Leonard Fournette first overall. I'd love to see the fail that would result in.

it's still 1-4 (or 0-5), so not sure how Mac signing Fitz is the problem with this season, which was my point. Coaching has been the biggest problem..

Even if one thought Geno or Petty would have won more games (which i don't), than coaching is still the problem as they didn't start them.

The better criticism for Mac isn't signing Fitz imo, but rather the QB moves he hasn't made.
By year 3, he really should have some realistic option at QB, or his seat might start warming too.

Backup QB overperforms with one team, they give him big money and he immediately swirls down the toilet like a turd.

Same backup QB overperforms for another team, they give him big money and what does he do?

Maybe you just aren't paying attention.

fwiw, Mac didn't give him big money..

But the better question, if you are criticizing Mac, is what should he have done this offseason to address the QB position?
I think a better point could be made there..

When you give a backup QB 12 million dollars for one season, you are giving him big money.

As far as your question, I can give you any number of scenarios and you'll probably write it off as hindsight. It's a wasted exercise.

Take his lumps with geno and petty. Putting out a team that you hope can competet for the last wildcard isn't good for the long term success of a team. If he thought the team was good enough to carry fitz it was good enough to protect a young qb too. Sometimes teams need to not be scared to be bad in order to move forward.

Here's the problem in a nutshell:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/pittsburg...de-open-Jesse-James-in-end-zone-for-1-yard-TD

and compounded by lackadaisical play after the penalty flag was thrown:

    http://www.nfl.com/videos/pittsburg...ith-Sammie-Coates-along-sideline-for-22-yards

Former pro player says it's not Bowles:
    http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-york-jets/0ap3000000719673/Who-s-to-blame-for-Jets-slow-start

So, either the backfield is filled with lazyass players, or Bowles isn't motivating them

Simply put this team does not have enough talent o beat teams with a winning record and that is why this season will result in the Jets being a 5 or 6 win team. During the offseason it was obvious the Jets needed to pick a player that would start adding to the offense or defense on almost every play, They needed an every down player. They needed a guy that was going to instantly make this team better. Darron Lee was NOT that guy and he never will be. He is a situational, part time player and nothing more desirable. He was NOT worth a 1st round draft choice for a team that plays a hybrid 3-4 defense. Not even close. He will never even so much as make the pro bowl and he will never make this defense better.

He was touted by the CS as the guy that would essentially put this defense over the top. Bowles actually bragged about his versatility and all of the different ways he would use Lee. Jets fans were suckers that lined up in droves. Except this Jets fan. Darron Lee has only played inside thus far and the returns are laughable. Sure, he leads the team in tackles but due to his size he does NOT tackle anyone with authority. The team is now limited to playing exclusively in a 4-3 front because Darron Lee is useless in a 3-4 alignment. The idea that will he be covering TE's is the dumbest thing I think I have ever heard. ANY decent sized TE will eat him alive and that is a fact so far this season.

It's also obvious to most anyone that Todd Bowles is a shit HC. He sucks and so does the rest of the CS. This team was EXPECTED to be better than last season and now that it is obvious to everyone that this team is in fact far worse than last season, is it also obvious to everyone that Bowles needs to be replaced?

At the end of the day, I don't think Mac should be fired. Mac just got suckered into believing in this loser of a HC and actually picking players Bowles thought were great players. Mac should keep his job knowing that he'd better make a better hiring choice next time because his chances will be running out also. Todd Bowles should be fired at the end of this season and that is just common sense.

Knowing that Mac actually can draft good players and his penchant for taking the best available player is a good thing. If he manages to hire a good HC this time around, the Jets could almost immediately be right back in business in 2017. The Jets have some talent, Mac just needs to build on that and hire a capable HC.

I know you don't like Lee, but Ray Lewis was also 6'1 and 240lbs and look at how he turned out as an ILB in the 3-4 defense that Baltimore played.

You are judging a guy based on 5 games with a terrible DC in Kacy Rodgers.

Give him the benefit of the doubt, hopefully Rodgers gets fired and they can hire a better DC and maybe he can put together a defensive scheme that will allow this defense to take advantage of the talent that it has.

I do agree with you about this team being able to turn it around very quickly with the right guy on the sideline.

Personally I would like to see Kyle Shannahan as the HC of the NY jets.

A lot of contradictions in here.
They were expected to be better but there isn't enough talent to beat winning teams?
Mac knows how to draft but the pick you don't like is on bowles?

Yeah, I would include Dallas. They've had some down years like all teams but over the life of the franchise they've had a lot of success, certainly more than the Jets.

There's no contradictions in my post whatsoever. Jets nation expected that this team would be better this season. Go around and ask anyone and I would bet pretty much no one thought this team would be this bad. But I knew this team simply did not have the talent to beat winning teams and that's why I fully anticipated this season turning out the way it did. So once again no contradictions at all, just facts.

The Darron Lee pick was very clearly what Bowles wanted as he played Deon Buchanon, a 223 pound Safety at Linebacker in AZ. If you didn't know that then you are simply playing naïve.

And forgive me if I'm wrong, but it appears you are only criticizing my post because you do not like my scathing criticisms of the team? If that's the case, all I can say is get over it. I don't concern myself with sugar coating things. I tell it like it is. I'm not negative. I'm not positive. I am OBJECTIVE.

This team sucks and the HC has only made things that much worse.........

Bowles should change his name to Bowels, because he's crap.

There is NO direction with this team. Bowels was suppose to be a defensive coach and he's anything but that. He sucks as a motivator, is quiet during his interviews, he has no emotion. He's in over his head as a HC. Kacy Rodgers is horrible too, in fact the whole coaching staff sucks. Chan was suppose to make FitzPICtrick a better QB and his offensive plays have SUCKED.

Bottom line is Jets fans are drinking the Kool-Aide, including myself, into believing that this team is good year in and year out. But the truth is, we are not a good team. Always looks good on paper, but never translates onto the field. We have had some stars on the team, but mostly we only have flashlights to shine towards the end of the tunnel. We are only as good as the Chargers, Jaguars, Titans, Browns, Texans, teams that were never great yet have led followers to believe they are.

I'm done with being led to the trough and drinking from it. Not saying I'm jumping ship, however, I will no longer support this team financially (i.e. jerseys, hats or game tix). I only pay for good products and the Jets are not a good product.

Myself? I would prefer an experienced HC. I would go all out to try and get Bill Cowher or maybe even Jimmy Johnson? Who knows if time has got JJ wanting to coach again?

As for first time Head Coaches, there's only ONE guy that I would to see get the chance and that is MIKE WESTHOFF. Westy was an amazing ST coordinator for us for years and he got a few interviews in the past. The fact that they did not interview him in the last HC search is a slap in the face IMO to a truly great coach.............
