just guessing but I would bet the only reason they stay with Fitzpatrick is because of how bad maccagnan looks if they bench him.
If that's true, then I guess we'll all be reduced to rooting for Fitz to suffer an injury just bad enough to knock him out of a couple of games, but nothing lasting or serious. And Fitz playing doesn't make Mac look bad?
And with Fitz's habit of diving head first after scrambles, it just might be a self fulling prophecy that he gets clocked and has to sit a few games.
The way Bowles is treating this whole QB dilemma and the questions he gets about Fitz reminds me of the way our team plays when down 2+ scores in the 2nd half....Not a care in the world, huddle up and run the playclock down to 1, punt in the 4th quarter on 4th and short....who gives a shit No urgency because nothing's wrong here, move along.....
Well the first step on the path to Petty is having him fully participate in practice. Other then that, the point of no return is 1-6. We'd of lost every head to head with the potential wildcard teams (unless you include the Bills, which ofc you don't) and of the 2 we don't play this year; Denver (common opponents) Colts (Denver won), Bengals (Denver Won/ We lost), KC (we lost) and Pats. Oakland Colts, Ravens (we would of lost), KC (we lost) and Bills. So at this point your playing for the future + chance to stop Pats being #1 seed and maybe keeping the Bills out of the playoffs in week 17 in a reversal of last year.
I almost totally disagree with this post. The only thing with which I agree is that Petty's not going to be able to play in games until he practices. By 1-6 the season is over. It would be totally stupid to keep playing Fitz until then, if that's what you're suggesting. He gives us little or no chance to win. He's not the future. The team should be playing "for the future" long before 1-6. If they drop to 1-6, the season is over and there's NO logical reason to continue to play Fitz. NONE. Playing to try to stop the Pats from becoming the #1 seed or try to keep the Bills out of the playoffs is petty and stupid imo. You NEVER play out of pettiness or spite. That always comes back to bite you. The Jets need to worry about their own team and fixing the issues there. Focusing on another team is the LAST thing they need to do. The Jets need to find out what they have in Petty and give him some experience. If it's true that Mac is keeping Petty from practicing in order to push Hack ahead of him, then I hope Petty demands a trade publicly so we know that's what's going on, and I hope Woody fires Mac, Bowles and the whole shebang. They may even want to give Geno one more chance, but it's looking more and more as if that's not the case. At this point, I don't know why they're even keeping him on the roster, because they're obviously not going to bench Fitz or let Geno see the field barring a catastrophe. They may even want to give Hack a game or two at the end of the season, but I hope not. I hope they'll let him focus on fixing his fundamentals.
Well my way of looking at it is from a week 1 perspective of which QB do I want through this 7 game, season defining stretch. Which one of the four gives me the best chance of going into the Browns at 2-5 (Bills+ one of the AFC North) or even 3-4 (I had sort of already pencilled in loses to Hawks, KC in KC, Big Ben et al and Cards)? Fitz was/is that guy and if we do end up 2-5 or 3-4 then he's the guy I would want to see out the softer part of the schedule or at least till we are out of the picture. Hell if you were going to make the switch it woulda been after the KC & Hawks game. If we lose to the Ravens (regardless of the Cardinals game) then make the switch. If we beat them then wait till either loss #7 or loss#6 if its Vs Colts.
Sorry, I still disagree. Fitz has played abysmally and a message needs to be sent to the team. IMO if he plays no better this week and the Jets lose to the Cards, then he should be benched, or at most given the first quarter against the Ravens, and then if he doesn't produce, bench his stupid ass and play Geno or Petty the rest of the way. If the Jets go to 1-5, their chances of making the playoffs are dead. As long as they can't make the playoffs, there's no point in continuing to play Fitz or any older vet who won't be with the team next year. There are no moral victories and pride shouldn't be more important than developing the team for next season and finding out who can help them going forward.
Fantastic? I wouldn't go that far. PFF has them ranked at #19, below average. They had a great game against the Bills, and a decent game against the Bengals, but in the other games could have been better. Injuries definitely play a factor. Fitz is just one of those guys that NEEDS time in the pocket to be successful. Lately, he hasn't gotten it.
I think it was this past week's game where the announcers said that Clady's play had fallen off of late. I don't know how accurate that was.
Actually, Fitz doesn't need that much time because he often makes up his mind presnap where he's going to throw the ball. That's why he gets the ball out so quickly and has taken so few sacks the last 2 seasons. It's made the OL look better, but has hurt our offense. Last year, Marshall and Decker were bailing him out, but not so much this year.
Is that ranking overall or for pass blocking? Because the o line has definitely passed the eye test in pass pro. They've looked much better than I expected them to and there has not been a game this year where I've though the o-line hindered Fitz's play. I'd argue they've been below average run blocking though.
Fitztragic will be the starter the rest of the season barring injury. The back half of the schedule has some very winnable games. No way the FO turns to Geno . Imagine the uproar if Geno plays well and out performs Fitz . The statement was made at the start of the season that Fitz would be the starter all season. This start was anticipated. Once more we will finish middle of the pack , just good enough to miss the chance to draft top talent
Yeah.. We need that draft position to draft a NT in the first round to play in our 4/3 alignment. Go BPA/DL... Go Fitz!
