I don't get it, on paper we have a solid secondary with some decent backups.
We also have a head coach who specialized as a DB coach, yet we continue to give the big play after big play.

I simply cannot understand what is leading to our secondary getting toasted out there. It cannot be coaching can it?

It sure looks like the coaching. More than once a game someone gets burned deep and they're looking for a team mate that's was suppose to be helping in coverage or at least that's what it looks like.

Either the coach isn't communicating his scheme correctly or all the DB's are morons and don't understand where they are suppose to be.

Lack of leadership, lack of execution, players in the secondary suck at zone, etc, you name it, it probably plays a role.

I am very impressed with how the Vikings have rallied behind each other and that defense has been lights out. Good thing because Mike Zimmer seems like a good dude that got screwed by his kicker in the playoffs last year

Do we even play bump and run anymore? Everyone plays off the line 10 yards like they're Kyle Wilson.

Looks like the worst defense we've had since 2008

Also doesn't help the secondary that they have to cover for 10 full seconds as our supposedly good DL fails to push the pocket.

It's poor Defensive coaching coupled with weak play. They were out coached in the 2nd half. That has been our coaches problems!

Baltimore is 3-2 and Harbaugh fired his OC today because he sucked..we're 1-4 and nobody gets fired..the difference between a properly run franchise and the Jets.

It's mostly coaching and scheme; our safeties play way too shallow. Our CBs are too mediocre and front 7 is too stout for our safeties to be playing so close to the LOS.

I'd just like to see us contest some catches.

I know we cry and scream when Fitz throws it into triple coverage but even when it's one on one about 90% of our receptions occur with a defender a step away (if lucky) whereas our secondary seems 4-5 yards off.

TBH I'm starting to miss Cro and his singular intent to jump routes regardless of consequence.

A lot more people here should miss Cromartie too but most of them will just tell you how much he sucked despite the fact that nobody has been as good or better for probably the last 4 or 5 years. I'll be the first to say how easy our schedule was last year but we still won 10 games and what was the only difference in the secondary?..oh, Cromartie.

Marcus GIlchrist has been beyond invisible this year, and Pryor has been visible for mostly the wrong reasons.

Our safety play is magnifying all of the CB issues.

Its called accountability and lack of leadership. There is none. I think it was last week Bowles said that the problems stemmed from miscommunication which is NFLese for blow assignment and that different people were making mistakes. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but not anymore... this team is ill prepared, poorly coached and frankly not that good.

BTW - have you seen anyone on the team get in anyone's face for a missed assignment? Or the coach talking up his players on the sideline? Or sitting someone because he has his head up his ass.... IMHO this is where it rests.

AS another poster stated this is essentially the same unit less Cro. That means they all have two years in the system so they should be in sync but they are not and quite dysfunctional.

To me that is coaching and accountability.....

There was a error in the evaluation of talent by the the GM and an error in coaching said talent.

This secondary is not as bad as it seems. Their problem is the coaching. It's the horrid coaching that has these guys are not in position to make plays and cannot figure out who to cover. Not to mention the pass rush is virtually nonexistent and any secondary cannot hold coverage for extended periods of time. It's impossible.
