Sadly I think coaching has been one of our biggest problems this season , along with QB. Bowles needs to step up his game along with the rest of the team.
I'm not near ready to want Bowles fired. They went 10-6 last year and are off to disappointing 4 game start with a very tough schedule. Fitz has been shockingly bad, okay, and great this season. The secondary giving up so many intermediate and big plays is what's most surprising to me, honestly. And given the talent and money there this should not be an issue...
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/r...-his-job-while-geno-smith-waits-in-the-wings/ sounds like it bowles would vote qb, according to la canfora
1. owner 2. coach 3. QB 4. lack of elite impact players 5. too much money tied into a few spots 6. elite money at Dline with elite pass rush
HC followed by QB You just have to look at NE to see what a great HC can achieve and that was with 2nd and 3rd string QBs at the start of the season and now Tom is back....
Secondary is a joke and our WRs drop the ball all the time. Our HC, DC, and OC suck. We can't draft for shit and clock management is non existant. We don't have an NFL TE. Other than that we are in good shape.
I think this back 7 is just SLOW, Harris, Henderson and Jenkins are 2 down LB's. Lee is fast but still young. Carter should get some burn out there to help. The secondary is a mess, they play off and give so much cushion. I honestly think Marcus is the best corner on this team, at least he's shown ability to make plays even if he gets beat deep. Which leads me to my thinking that Pryor is a SS and needs to be treated as such, while Gilchrist, i swear hasn't made a play since last year. At least I see Pryor making an effort and trying out there. Skrine has regressed, Revis has regressed. We need to try something different at FS
It's pretty simple coaching and the quarterback, everything else is secondary. The best thing that could happen to this franchise is not to win another game the rest of the season...fire the coach and pick the best QB in the draft.
In a nutshell, coaching and QB. I think QB is a higher priority upgrade, even though the coaching deficiencies are more obvious at this point.
I would reverse that....outside of wrs and dline...there's nothing else to write home about. I think Bowels has lost the team.
I'm going to go against the grain here and restate something I harped on in another thread: While this team has obvious issues in the secondary, at quarterback, on special teams, and on the sideline, the single biggest disappointment to me is how underwhelming our defensive line has been. To me, that unit needed to carry us and dominate a few games for us to survive this brutal stretch of games. The bottom line is that they haven't done that and have been marginally better than average, overall. As I wrote earlier today, through the first five games, the Jets defensive strategy against the pass has predominantly revolved around rushing four and playing coverage. But, it has failed miserably because we aren't getting to the QB. We had one flash in the pan game against Cincy, but since then, what quarterback have we consistently put on his ass? We have given up several, slow-developing, long touchdown passes on plays in which we didn't get close to the opposing QB. Consider this from ESPN: "Ben Roethlisberger was pressured on just four of his 48 dropbacks in Sunday's win (8 percent). It was the Jets' second-lowest pressure percentage in a game in the last eight seasons. That was also Roethlisberger's lowest pressure percentage in the last five seasons. The lack of pressure could be due to the lack of blitzes. The Jets blitzed Roethlisberger on 13 percent of his dropbacks, the their lowest blitz percentage in a game in the last three seasons." Holy fuck. Most of us knew Fitzpatrick was a mediocre career journeyman who couldn't be counted on to throw 30+ TD passes again. Anyone who didn't expect him to regress this year from what was an unprecedented, career year as a starter last year, simply wasn't paying attention. But, this defense was supposed to be a top 5 unit that was supposed to keep us in games against the best of the best. And the main reason for that belief was this defensive line. It's the most talented, and conveniently, arguably the healthiest (we'll see about Richardson) unit on the team. Where the fuck is it? Was Wilkerson really worth that contract we just gave him? Is Leonard Williams going to live up to the expectations of being a universally praised top 5 pick? Is Richardson really someone we want to think about signing to a big deal down the road?
I wanted Fitz back precisely because I thought we were going to be a Top 5 defense. Aside from the KC debacle, Fitz has played exactly like I thought he would, but he isn't good enough to win when the defense keeps getting torched.
Theres no doubt the defensive line has some blame. Last year i caused an uproar on here when i questioned mo wilk. I stated he had a bad habit of taking plays off. I love the talent, but he definitely slacks. This line isn't living up to its cost. Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
