damn, was hoping he would be a huge weapon for us in the middle of the field. another swing and a miss in the 2nd round.
Idzik botched that WR situation in the draft so badly.....everyone and their brother knew it at the time and we can look back now and see how bad it was Almost all of them turned out to be good players too As for Amaro/Milliner...I see some Jets fans almost happy they were finally cut but it's really not good at all for us as a franchise. Just more busts we can't afford with high picks in recent years Amaro is PS eligible atleast LOL
Good post. I wasn't in favor of drafting Amaro, but I've been rooting for him hoping I was wrong. I understood the pick of Milliner and have rooted for him as well. It hurts that we get nothing from those two picks. Idzik would have been a boob who deserved firing even if Amaro and Milliner panned out. Oh well. In Mac I trust!!!
I root for all Jets players but especially high picks with potential to turn it around and not be busts...Its not good at all to keep missing on high picks obviously, I don't give a damn who the GM was Devin Smith is the next one where some fans are already predicting and almost rooting against the guy It's good we found some young WRs with promise this year but I still want to see Devin become a great player and deep threat...no point in bashing the kid constantly
Hopefully Robby Anderson becomes the type of WR deep threat in which we all expected Devin Smith to be. I'm not one to easily quit on higher draft picks but it doesn't look good for Smith, at all. He was never a polished WR to begin with and had inexperience running NFL routes while with Ohio State. So missing lots of time as a rookie last year while on the verge of missing a lot of 2016 during his 2nd season could stunt his growth & route running ability tremendously (taking away from both his development & potential) Last but not least Smith was drafted due to his top end speed as a deep threat WR coming out of Ohio State. For a speed burner looking to make a career living beating defenses over the top... a serious knee injury consisting of a torn ACL is the worst type of injury a player of Devin's playing style could've ever suffered. Devin Smith is the reason why I'm super intrigued by the preseason emergence of Robby Anderson who completely stole the show. Anderson breaking out into a Jets impact performer can go a long ways for this Franchise moving forward (it'll offset the potential disappointment of Smith).
If Smith had a QB that could reach him on a regular basis I would bet he would be pretty good. When the ball actually does get anywhere near him he is so shocked he drops it.
Details... details.... 2017 I think will be Petty's time. Question is, will Smith still be around and on the field instead of on some injured list.
WOW. I figured he'd get one more shot...... especially considering they really dont have anyone else. I guess he was as soft as Rex said.
In all seriousness, there were several plays last year where Smith got open but Fitz misfired badly. Not sure if that was a case of Smith running the wrong route or the two of them just not being in sync due to limited practice time, but the guy did manage to get open quite often when he was actually out there. I'm just starting to get the Dee Milliner vibes from him. He suffered two significant injuries in his rookie year. It's hard to just write them off as bad luck, at some point it becomes a trend. You really can't put him into any long term plan until he proves he can stay healthy for a full season.
Agreed. The more weapons we have, the more trade bait we have to fill some other holes. Doesn't make sense to route against someone even if they don't play to your liking. I hope they all play well and we keep the best ones lol.
A serious question ... How can it be possible that Jace Amaro is not a better option at TE than the stiffs we're running out there?? Bowman KILLED us today with a huge drive killing drop, and Davis had a drive killing holding call. Neither one of them caught a pass. I know about Amaro's shortcomings, but at least he caught 38 passes his rookie season. So seriously ... How can it be POSSIBLE that the coaching staff thinks these bums are better options? Are they world class blockers??
