I agree with your assessment of the defense, however, what makes you think that Ryan will make them pay like Wentz did? Carson was going to his 2nd and 3rd reads on broken plays. I hope Fitz can tear up that secondary, but I'm afraid that Pitt will employ the same tactic that the chiefs did, play a zone coverage with bracket technique.
Colts are like karl malone, barkley and the other greats thay had the unfortunate timing of having jordan play at the same time as them. And i'd agree that since drafting luck they haven't made much of any good moves but at the time of them tanking it was the move of a smart team
i dont think you can put 'only" and "qb play" in the same sentence. thats like saying the only thing keeping me from being a millionaire is the money millionaires have
I know you don't like TB but you still have not mentioned a HC that's out there that is better for the jets, not taking into account the ones who don't want to come to NY. What I have noticed the past three weeks is the one constant, Ryan's inability to make plays in the redzone. He is too up and down as a QB and those peak and lows are not what a team needs from their QB. Should they hand the ball off to Forte more, I believe so. You are right about one thing, maybe TB needs to talk to Gailey and ask him for a more balanced approach, but if that's the case then he probably hired the wrong OC as he has always been a pass heavy OC. Regarding being a millionaire, there are many variables that affect how people become rich. QB plays is pretty straight forward or at least it should be after 12 years in the league. The jets have a good oline, good WRs, 2 good RB, what's left?
I would argue that no matter what the record is after week 6, we need to start moving away from Fitz. He will not be here next year, and he might implode again soon when you need him most. He does not elevate the quality of this team. If anything, he is handicapping our play book.
I've said this before, we will be at best 3-5 at the mid-way point of the season thanks in large part to "Shitzpatrick". There might be a second half run with a familiar let down. It is sad that this is probably the best we will do with all of the talent on this team.
Playoffs are not looking good unless the Jets really start winning games by the handful. They are in a good position for the future..no doubt. They have a deep roster w. some intriguing young prospects. They'll have a decent number of draft picks as well as cap maneuverability. Their holes are fixable..just not right now when we really need it. That said..this teams psych really concerns me. It's the same tentative, flat crap & "Oh we learned our lesson we'll play better now" broken record. They have no idea how to put a game away on either side of the ball & they have no idea how to assert themselves against any opponent good or bad.Sometimes it seems like we're watching the same script over & over. Now does a franchise QB change that? If it's a truly special player who can make plays on his own as well as be a leader..Yes. The chances of the Jets landing that player are slim though at this point I think a blockbuster trade for a QB solution is more than justified. How many 1st rounders you guys willing to pile to Indy for Andrew Luck?
Hypothetically, if we're 1-6 or 2-7 which I don't think is reasonable... Ryan Fitzpatrick should never play another down with the Jets. IMO we play Geno for 1-2 games for two reasons. 1. Petty still may not be practicing at that point, who knows. 2. Assuming Fitz not be returning the year after, the organization must decide if Geno will also be gone. If the answer is Geno's also gone it's time IF Petty is healthy by then, which he should be, for him to get a chance. Assuming he looks decent let him finish the season. If he does not, well who the hell knows. With how they handled Hackenberg this summer I highly doubt there's any chance he's ever active this season.
I know there is alot of doom and gloom around here but we are being a little dramatic. This team is not going 1-6 it never was and it was just a bullshit talking point. What i do agree with is the sentiment that its really tough sometimes to be a jets fan but mostly because we sort of hover around 7-9 8-8 and when we do better its never enough. We have not been a dumpster fire for a while and this team isnt one either. That being said, last week was dreadful. But it was on the road against a well coached team. If that were at home i would say maybe it was time to panic. Anways worse case this year is 7-9 but i would think 8-8 and above is more likey.
And the best part is, it isn't ruining him to play so early in his career, he doesn't need coddled for 2-3 seasons, he has mechanical flaws and I'm sure lacks NFL QB knowledge. I think all those that think it's best to sit the rookie QB "until he is ready", and believe a second round project like Hackenberg is the way to go, have learned a thing or two from this QB class. For all we know our future QB may be injured sitting on the bench, but if Petty wasn't injured? He very well could be out there on Sunday's slinging it around, winning games. Our staff doesn't have the balls to see, for fear of losing their job. Conservative route, at our teams expense. They couldn't make the call if Petty or Geno was ready to play or not. Mac wanted Fitz, and overpaid for him to save face. You can either play or you can't. Wentz, Dak, and Trev, obviously can. Hack may be holding a clip board 3-4 years from now, and was an obvious reach and wasted pick in the draft. I believe once Petty catches up to the speed of the NFL game, he can be like those guys if the team retains its talent and beefs up the O-line. We have the talent surrounding a young QB to help his life be easier. It isn't like when Geno came in. Nacho had a damn good team around him, and made a couple deep playoff runs as shitty of a QB as he was. If we lose a couple more games in a row, and Fitz is still playing average, put Petty's ass out there. Hell, throw Quackenberg out there. If playing the game blows either of their minds, they were not NFL QB's anyway. Only the strong survive in any professional sport. Coddling QB's for fear of ruining their future is a total joke. That works on kids 18 years old and less, and should be administered as such. Not where you earn millions of dollars as a job.
That means Fitz will have to Dink and Dunk, yards after catch, run the ball in pass formations, throw in run formations, etc.... Manage the game, rather than trying to win it with his arm. Our team is not an air it out offense. If our O-line could somehow allow us to run the ball, our offense would be so much better. Fitz isn't Dan Marino, but I wish he was.
If we start 1-3 and Fitz plays badly or worse this Sunday it's time to yank him......He didn't get the job done against Cincy and was inaccurate as hell, also threw a pick to end the game yet again which seems to be his thing....he had a very good game against Buffalo and this last game was on a whole different level of fail I really think if we had a solid, above average performance from the QB position we would be 3-0 right now.....Th O-line has protected him very well and the WRs are doing a solid job....also Forte is playing his ass off. The defense has been hot and cold but gave us a chance to win in our two losses for sure Fitz is not close to good enough to continue trotting him out there if he's holding the team back.....Better QBs have been benched before when they're playing poorly. Hopefully he makes me eat my words on Sunday but I'd be surprised
Yeah, it seems that Fitz' struggles mostly come against the tough passing defenses. The Chief's had our receivers covered on almost every play last Sunday, virtually every throw seemed to be in double coverage. I really felt running the ball was the key to beating the chiefs, but I guess Gailey did not think so, even with Marshall and Decker being banged up. Unfortunately, 3 of the next 4 games are against top 10 passing defenses so in all likihood, Fitz will struggle. Unless the Jets do a better job establishing the run, and getting points in the red zone, they will be LONG games. Fitz isn't a win it himself type of QB for sure, but he can get it done with help. Also if the D can't set the edge, there is no hope at ever stopping the run like this team used to.
whats left is a good coach. a good coach can do ok with that. we have a coach, who thus far, isnt ready for prime time. maybe he can be an ok coach at some point.. as of now he is at the bottom of the barrell
The HC does not play the QB position, look at how underrated Kubiak was. He goes to a team with a great defense, HOF QB and his questionable offensive scheme and he is now a SB winning HC. How many guys looked at his previous record and discounted him? It's all about the QB in the NFL, you keep blaming TB for things he can't control. I do hate that he holds on to TO like he can carry them over to the second half, but in my opinion he is not the reason the jets will have a poor season IF they do have one, there is still a lot of football left and I'm hoping that some adjustments will be made by everyone on the team and CS.
I think after the Ravens game the Jets will be (4-3) or (3-4). If so, they are is a decent position with the final 9 games being more manageable than the first 7.
