    Howdy folks,

I just got done watching the second season of Narcos and figured I'd start a new thread to see if anyone else had watched it. (Here is the old thread: http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/narcos-on-netflix.86021/#post-3392308).

When I first started watching the series I thought it was meant to be the story of Pablo Escobar, but apparently that isn't the intent. While the first two seasons revolve mainly around Escobar, the following seasons will move into new territory. (It was just renewed for seasons 3 and 4). As for the show, the first season does a wonderful job showing Pablo's rise and the second his fall.

The actor playing Escobar is a Brazillian named Wagner Moura who learned Spanish just for this role. He is amazing! And while some of the history has been changed, the gist of more important events have remained untouched. For example, the spoiler below...

    SPOILER:
For those of you living in a cave for the last two decades, Pablo Escobar is dead and the Cali cartel took over from the supposedly moribund Medellin cartel.

The series does a nice job exploring how good and evil can blur in this sort of no holds barred fight. There are some other great ideas explored as well. One worth noting is that the Columbians may have well ignored Escobar in his personal built prison/castle had Escobar not committed murder while there AND the USA pressured them to do something about it.

    Anyway, anyone else watch this?

First season was pretty good. Saw the first episode of the new season. Looks like a lot more subtitles.

I started season 1 and got tired of the subtitles after one episode, I gave it another shot and glad I did. I binged on season 2 as soon as it came out and finished it in 4 days.
It does have some flaws as a show but still highly entertaining.

Another note, Z Nation is back, season 3 just started.

Yes, more subtitles, but even if you don't usually like subtitled stuff, please give it a try. It a VERY compelling television. They made some changes to the story, as can be expected, but most of it is acceptable to me.

SPOILERS: For example, the reporter who is the former love interest of Escobar's is still alive today and is a key witness for the USA and reformers against corruption no narco-terrorism in Columbia.

Another change made to the story is Pablo wasn't on the phone with his wife when the police raid begins where he is gunned down. IRL he was on the phone with his son. I suspect they changed this because the producers have made an effort to paint his son an not being culpable in his father's criminal enterprises. However, apparently some people in Columbia have wanted the son tried as well despite only being in his early or mid teens when Pablo died. It doesn't help that Escobar's ex-wife and son have also been accused of money laundering some of his remaining fortune.

There are more examples I can share if you all would like....

I find the moral dimension fascinating. The use of Los Pepes to ultimately cut away his support and destroy Escobar brings up a quandary that governments often face: how far will you go to achieve your objectives, even if they are noble? Did the Columbian and American gov'ts lose because they effectively helped death squads root out his support?

As for me, I think it was a necessary evil. The Castanos had actually been Escobar's allies before (not shown in the show) and they are partially neutered later. Cali is also dealt a severe blow a few years later, but this merely opens the way for the Mexican cartels with whom we are currently engaged in a war against. So ultimately was killing Escobar worth it? After all, he was at least someone who did a modicum of good along with his evil, right?

Narcos makes some thoughtful points IMHO.

First episode of Z Nation is a 2 hour flashback episode. Pretty good but makes me wonder if they are straying towards trying to take themselves more seriously but I hope not. Still not at all trying to be like a Walking Dead type show but I want them to keep the same type of show they had.
