    Why was he stopped?

8 cops and a chopper seems excessive for routine stop..

Clearly the officer was wrong in her assessment but believed his actions justified deadly force.

The problem is that if she believed she was justified then the police have been given too much latitude to be judge, jury and executioner if fear of what may be a threat justifies deadly force, not an actual threat.

The repercussion of such latitude -- innocent people getting killed who aren't a threat -- is a far greater threat we should aim to prevent than requiring more certainty on the police's part before using deadly force.

At the end of the day, if we have to choose between civilians being killed mistakenly by police or police being at a greater risk of simply not getting the first shot off against an actual armed threat, I think as a society we have to choose the latter.

You're just making up random stuff at this point. He wasn't on PCP. He wasn't reaching into his car. That's a bullshit excuse disproved by video. He was just standing there against the vehicle when she shot him.

Also, I wouldn't draw a gun just because someone is high and isn't listening. That's how innocent people get shot.

If she's so stupid that she believes she's justified in shooting him, she shouldn't be a cop and she shouldn't never carry a gun because she's the kind of idiot who'd fire into a crowd to stop someone.

There's no excuse for this. I'll take innocent civilians over cops any day. murdering innocent civilians is the ultimate form of disgrace. You don't take a high risk job then shoot every little threat to protect yourself. That's sociopathic.

Charlotte needs to issue a bulletin on the radio, tv, and social media telling everyone to get off the streets after dark effective now. Give them an hour then load a .50 cal and start cleaning up the city. No one will miss the trash that are looting and rioting. They used Lamont's death as an excuse to start stealing and damaging property. Hopefully, Trump is elected and PC attitudes die a torturous death.

Who knows why, but apparently the female cop was scared for her life. He probably resembled the picture below.

Dude is obviously a threat to humanity and had to be put down.

I think one of the main problems is that it is too easy to become a police officer in this country. In a years time a majority of the country could pass the academy and become a cop. One year, and you are thrown into a dangerous job that isn't really worth the paycheck when you look at all of the negatives the job has attached to it.

We need to look at our own police training system in this country and how much do we really value them in order to fix this problem. Up the pay, up the requirements to become one. Just like our immigration system we need a total overhaul on how we vet potential law enforcement officers. In the end you will get better cops because they are in a career that takes care of them financially, and they are better trained hopefully reducing this nervous cop syndrome hitting the nation.

they found pcp in the car. He was running away from the car yelling its going to blow up based on the 911 call. Not a far assumption that he was dusted

You know being on drugs isn't a reason to shoot someone, right?

I know exactly how id react, and its not a over reaction. There was NO REASON for her reaction. None of the other officers on the scene reacted that way.

Yes you can, standards mean nothing. Police are public servants not gods, always remember that.

I didn't say it was, but it is a factor in what happened that day. If he is sober, is he running from a car he left in the middle of the street, acting disoriented, giving reason for the female cop alone to pull her weapon? I'm not saying she is innocent, but if the toxicology report cones back with him on dust he has some responsibility for the events that occurred

Clearly. Because Fuck The Police is a mantra chanted by white people, right?

You get any cool Charlotte Hornets swag last night? I hear it is your civil right to free Hornets gear to voice your displeasure.

I was being sarcastic, zace. Obviously cops are not above scrutiny. For Christ sakes, only one cop thought this was a dangerous enough situation to justify a shooting. That pretty much tells you the shooter has some explaining to do.
