Yup. I mentioned during the game thread how we were using Lee as a QB spy and a big reason why Taylor couldn't take off running. An even more impressive play (wish I could find it) is when Lee stuffed McCoy behind the L.O.S. His play recognition was top notch there. He read the play and had no hesitation plugging the gap and finishing the play. He keeps playing like this and racking up tackles especially behind the L.O.S and he's going to contend for the Rookie Defensive Player of the Year award.
This is what I expect Lee to do against Charles this Sunday when the line Blitzes. The fear of blitzing is a quick 80 yrd dump-off to Charles. Lee is the only defender on the team that could shadow Charles and track him down. Another thumbs up to Macc.
His instincts look top notch. Everything else can be built on, but instincts are either there and fluid or they're non existent. It's good to see this guy flying around, although he's obviously going to have to add some strength to get rid of blockers. So far so good though as Mac put a playmaking linebacker behind a massive front 4. We have Wilk and Leo for the next three years at minimum so he should have this luxury for all of his young career. I didn't like passing on the young receivers but Lee looks like he's going to be a stud for a while.
He' got legs but does not use them very much. Throws a ton of safe passes but I think we can get some sacks on him. Can't wait to play the statue that is Carson Palmer
He's not as fast as Taylor, but makes quicker decisions with the football. They will try and dink and donk on us then all of a sudden try and go deep with Maclin, or an Alex Smith scramble to move the chains. Have to be disciplined on that side of the football, Smith doesn't turn the football over much. Big 3rd down plays, they have to be on the lookout for him.
I'm happy with Lee so far Not putting him in canton yet, but with the way our D line dominates, a speed LB to rocket to the mess is such a pleasure to see. Loved his instincts so far to fly through a hole. He's a missile to the ball. The kind of plus plus speed even I can notice watching on TV. Imagine being on the field to witness that? Cool stuff. Keep improving, stay healthy. Good luck.
Lee was the first guy there after Sheldon grabbed McCoy on that 4th and 1, and stopped any more forward progress. Just sayin'
He's no Mike Vick but just as Fitzpatrick can scramble for positive yardage, Smith can do the same. Fitz has had season's of 215, 225, 269, 270 (last year) and 304 rushing yards while Smith has had years of 254, 431 & 498 rushing yards (last year). Fitzpatrick has ran for 13 career rushing TD's while Smith has ran for 9 career rushing TD's and they both have an identical career average of 4.6 yards per rush attempt. They're very similar in terms of style of scramble. And just as team's don't scheme around putting a QB spy on Fitzpatrick i really wouldn't imagine us dedicating a QB spy to that of Alex Smith. Our defensive lineman are more than athletic enough to take care of Alex Smith without much help. As Jet defenders they'll always need to be aware of his ability to scramble for extra yardage but with an athletic Lee you'd much rather have Lee focused on either containing their HB's catching out of the backfield (Charles) or helping a safety such as Calvin Pryor over the middle of the field in coverage up against Kelce (TE).
much faster, urban meyer was using him in the same spread system he used tebow, that was part if not mostly why s.f. took him #1
It's amazing he actually broke through despite all of the different coordinators and issues. He was on the way towards being a big time bust. I didn't think much of him when he played with the 49ers, but Andy Reid and Jeremy Maclin have made Alex a better quarterback. Fitz has done some crazy scrambles in 18 games with the Jets, but I could never see him doing this:
