Get serious! Fitzpatrick was resigned because he was the clear cut leader coming off a very successful year. Hackenberg was drafted to be developed for the future. Smith wasn't cut because he's the clear backup. How any of this translates to Petty being a career backup is in your mind only.

those of us in western ny saw plenty of him before he came to the jets.
for every game like last thursday he does well, you will see one like last year in buffalo.

he is exactly what the tuna used to refer as a " hold the fort guy".
just like we warned the bills fans about rex, they warned us about fitz.
    evidently, you were not listening.

better to ask at this point : why the former db / current head coach has a seconday that is getting torched long, even with a $17 million dollar talent at cb. the lack of in-game adjustments is inexcuseable.

because if petty was able to even be a good back up this season, they would have cut geno. If petty was able to start this season they wouldn't have went for fitz so hard. Petty couldn't even pass geno on the depth chart

Petty is injured and hasn't even practiced because of it yet, unless he did today and I didn't hear yet.

He had all camp and 3 preseason games to overtake geno and didn't. He didn't get hurt until the 4th game

It's all about WHEN you have those bad games. No doubt Jets best chance to win. Hopefully Petty or Hack are ready for the job and maybe Fitz comes back on a backup deal unless he goes out, lights it up and wins the Jets some playoff games. The last being most important.

Hard to believe they see Petty as a sure future starter since they drafted a QB high this year.

Not really. The draft was in April. Petty started up the curve in camp after OTA's actually.

They said themselves, before and after the draft, they wouldn't know until they saw him in games, but liked him very much.

If Petty doesn't get injured is Geno still on the roster? I mean Petty was easily the better preseason QB. Obviously I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but it don't take much to be out Geno Smith and the kid looked good this preseason.

Will we hold 4 QB's all season? I have my doubts.

petty showed more in PS then Geno did. They only kept Geno because he has the NFL experience and Petty is still somwwhat green but agin I am not sure what PS you were watching but he looked off safeties, went through progressions, etc. and throw the ball waay something geno has yet to master.

So, now you want to talk about this season? What happened to your proclamation for his whole career? What kind of timeline do you give a guy before you declare his career a bust?

You must not have watched him play during preseason. What you're describing is the offense he played in in college at Baylor, NOT how he played this preseason.

I am talking career too. Petty won't be a starter in the NFL

    Go for it.
Just a disclaimer, it doesn't count if he is a backup and the starter gets hurt and he has to fill in.

$50 sounds good? and in addition, if Petty suffers a career ending injury the bet is off.
