Some years it seems to take those DBs a few weeks to get things working just right within their communication, alignment and switches.Week 1 it was bad tackling & a bad match-up in Green. This past week was more miscommunication & misalignment. I just wish Bowles would either A.Blitz more or B.play cover 2 to just change things up. Yes the DL is dominant but he had em playing contain basically the whole game & maybe over the long haul this off man coverage thing can be revisited..but right now something needs to be switched up.It doesn't make sense to hold back our DL to bottle up Tyrod Taylor if the back end isn't stable. Self Defeating.
On the touchdown that was scored by Greg Salas, that was the ONE PLAY Rontez Miles checked in for on defense. He was way off on his coverage. That TD was on him clearly.
Marcus Williams is going to be a good one. He is still raw and will get better and better. Good Lord, he knows how to turn his head around and look for the ball. Something the last couple of 1st round CBs the Jets have picked never knew how to do. I'm afraid Revis is done.
i dont put the second bomb on the secondary, i put it on the line. they had him pressured and contained but then overpersued and let him get out of the pocket. you cant give 5-6 seconds and outside contain to a qb who is a threat to run and then expect good things to happen on the back end. salas' touchdown wasnt even on his route. watch the all 22 film he is initially covered, then once taylor breaks the pocket, he improvizes. to me that play is mostly on mauldin. he overpersued and got faked out.
disagree 100%. thats on the pass rush, mainly mauldin. watch the replay, especially on the all 22 film. salas is initially covered. not like rontez got burnt. that play was DEAD until mauldin overpersued and got faked and let taylor break contain and get outside. 5-6 seconds and a scrambling qb outside the pocket. if mauldin keeps contain now way taylor makes that throw back peddling at the 8-9 yard depth in the pocket with the push we had in the middle.
i think our dline was fine... its tough vs mobile qbs though, cause when our dline get a push they can scrmble outside, and our linebackers while improved are still weak their although lee showed some ok signs. also think the hate on the secondary is overblown. most of the big plays through weeks are mental things you can clean up. Greens TD revis thought he had deep middle help(you can see pryor yelling/pointing and williams who was supposed to be deep). Salas' touchdown was a broken play where mauldin lets him break contain on an overpersue and miles is caught peeking. the rest is mostly bowles playing "not to lose" with tons of cushion everywhere. I think we can just play it straight up. dont need to blitz. like you said, rush 4. play man to man tight, bump at the line, and have 2 safties deep. we dont need safties up all game with our line.
i was right with you until that last line... every team has the same practice restrictions. not every team is making mental mistakes for huge plays on sundays.... i also dont think practice makes him play so scared/conservative(not that you said that, just an opinion).
I agree, this is the key to this years defense being successful and creating more turnovers for the secondary. I think HC don't like to be so passive because of all these exotic schemes their coming up with in the war room. Ironically the Giants won a SB with one of the worst secondary's in the history of football against one of the best offenses of all time. They had a dominant dline that put constant pressure on the QB. I think that the jets could be just as dangerous defensively if they simply adjusted their scheme on defense. They have the talent, match ups are in their favor most of the time, just let the safeties help over the top and you would see more interceptions from this secondary.
its funny williams is getting all the props and no hate. when he has not been very good. the 2 interceptions skew things. the first fell in his lap. the second was a nice play on the ball but brutal underthrow. all22 film shows his coverage has been, lackluster at best. he benefitted from some really bad throws for incompletions by taylor as well. if you had to grade the secondary in coverage, it would probably have to go skrine, revis then mcdougal. especially when you look at the replay of AJ greens touchdown where it is clear that was on a williams blown assignment, not revis.
Ridiculous. Woody was the one clamoring to bring Revis back. Pryor is a beast. Williams makes some plays. Gilchrist is solid. Milliner and McDougle were huge busts from the previous regime. Mac brought Forte, Marshall, Fitz, and many solid players from his drafts. I don't know about the Hackenberg pick, but I'm used to not getting anything in round 2 at this point. Mac has a long leash and his decisions show such. Idzik had a short leash, and we saw it in his decisions too.
Bowles clearly stated it wasnt on him so thanks for that wrong information. It must of been on one of the corners cause he said it def wasnt MIles but wouldnt throw whoever it was under the bus so somebdy else was at fault.
That was Stanford, but point taken. Stanford, Mauldin, and Catapano showed their inexperience, or inability, to execute the game plan and allowed Taylor outside. Inside Taylor didn't do much
