Got stronger as the game went along, had 15 carries for 31 yds at one point and ended up with 100 yds, Phil Simms gave the Marcus Allen reference by the way, which I agree with
Said on TV that he learned in College to avoid the big hits So in a sense he is smarter than Ivory who wants to run over you but risking injury in process With Powell we have a stacked backfield,,especially once teams start keying on Forte
Another steal for our GM "McMagic". Marshall last year, now Forte (so far). It's a head-scratcher how the mediocre-at-best Chicago Bears can casually dispense great players. In addition to adding a great WR and RB on the cheap, Mike McMagic also acquired pro-bowler Ryan Clady so quickly, we didn't even have a moment to fear the retirement of D'Brickashaw Ferguson. How many other GM's do that? Certainly no other Jets GM. Just think of the problems he's been able to address and solve for this organization so far.
Thank you. Forte glides on the field while avoiding big hits. Love how he picks his spots so quickly, then goes. No wasted energy or time. They need to give Powell more reps, but with 10 days rest i can see the Jets continuing to feed Forte at KC. Beat KC and the NFL will be forced to take notice...... The Jets are COMING!!
Totally. Forte reminds me a lot of Curtis Martin, a real finesse back. I loved Ivory but his battering ram style took a toll on his body. Looking forward to watch Forte this season, my favorite new Jet.
I just read that Forte has 59 touches through two games and Powell has 8. This balance needs an adjustment. Forte's health is too valuable, and Powell is too good a player.
Yeah and where's Khiry Robinson? If he's making no impact hope to the stars Karlos Williams gets in shape and stays out of trouble.
Robinson reinjured his leg in the preseason and is no longer on the team. Troymaine Pope is the third RB.
Karlos Williams was overweight going into training camp by like 20lbs. What do you think he is gunna look like after being a out of football for this long
Nice find. Most great HB's become more productive as they continue to get more carries. Once they find their rhythm backs like Forte begin to run wild. As already mentioned he's a really smooth runner, so a Marcus Allen style of run comparison was a good one. Has great patience behind the L.O.S and hits the hole with elite field vision. Has the rare ability to turn nothing into something (positive yards). Can sell the play action ax well. Reminds me of an L.T the way he's able to catch out of the backfield, line up as a receiver in a spread offense along with being able to pass protect as a 3 down HB. Just look at some of these highlights of Forte below. His patience & foot work, his field vision before hitting the hole or cutting back, his pass protection, selling the play action, athleticism, burst of speed etc it's all there. My favorite play was his 12 yard TD run, the last highlight of the video. End of the game but yet looked as fresh as a 21 year old back during the 1st quarter. Beautiful to see. He's an all around gamer.
Gotta eat crow on this pick up. I really thought he was over the hump, but you have to look at his style of play. It plays well into older years. He avoids big hits and relies on excellent vision to pick up yards. He's not out there breaking 3 tackles every play and juking everyone, but he finds yards where there seemingly is none and ALWAYS falls forward. Can't say enough about how he's played. With that said, it's concerning to see the volume he's getting. We're gonna need him late into the season, it'd be best to see a split that's at least in the 70-30 range as far as touches are concerned. Forte has a lot of mileage. We shouldn't be trying to expedite his aging process.
If he ever wanted to play football again, he'll be ready and in shape. Jets have to do something about these carries.
This was a post I made during the offseason in regards to Matt Forte having a lot of gas left within the tank. Powell will spell Forte as the season progresses but as of right now Forte is in a zone & running the ball as smoothly as any back in the game today. Forte having a couple of extra days off and we'll see the same type of usage against Kansas City, and rightfully so, because Matt Forte just being on the field opens things up for our entire offense. He's an absolute X-Factor of a 3-down back. With games against K.C, Seattle, Pittsburgh & Arizona coming up (3 of 4 road games) now is not the time to worry about Forte's pitch count. These next 4 games could be our season in a nutshell. Powell will have his chance as a backup but it's currently Matt Forte time; he's feasting as a dynamic player and he's a defensive threat before every snap.
My thoughts exactly!! The next 4 games are against elite teams and can propel us to a special season if we can even get a split of 2-2. Can't hold anything back here. Forte is playing great. Especially with 10 days rest, i expect Forte to continue getting 30 touches, if not more! I expect the Jets to be 4 point underdogs ( point spreads reflect public opinion ). Win against the chiefs ( a team with a historically dominant home field advantage. Must be nice to have such an edge at home. ) and Jets will open some eyes among their peers. Forte is dependable, smart, experienced. In a loud and hostile KC, Jets need to limit mistakes. Forte needs to play the whole game.
